-- Why don't you compete in the ID contests?

I live in the US. These boards are my only source of information. By the time I catch on to a hot track, the masses have already moved on to other hot tracks.

I would have no idea where to begin to ID unknown tracks.

tbh i dont come on TA much anymore i dunno why.. but when i remember i DL the latest ID compo. id personally say im shit hot with IDs, i have a decent knowledge of quite a lot of different styles of music.. but i dont listen to trance anymore, havnt done for the last 2-3 years, never liked electro really.. and new house i dont care for... i still make about 20-30 points maybe more, but im never gonna win, so i dont submit my answers

More samples = more points. That's how I see it.

Im crap at IDing stuff, especially trance.

Posted by IcyLogik on Jul-21-2006 20:28:

add some progressive and I would participate

Posted by JJ-T1 on Jul-21-2006 21:09:

Already won 2 times so I don't have to prove anything anymore , just kidding. Nowdays I just don't have the time. Maybe on winter I could involve...
I like progressive, melodic/uplifting and classics, use those genres please. No techno and electro

80 samples * 15 seconds = 1200 seconds = 20 minutes
The contest lasts 2-3 weeks, right? Well, don't tell me you can't spare an hour or two in those 2-3 weeks to find some IDs.

I stopped bothering when I didn't know any of the new trance stuff

heh, every contest i've bothered to download has consisted of mostly older stuff i wouldn't know where to start on :-/

never participated because i've only ever recognised 2 or 3 tunes tops

Older stuff? Not in my current one, the average in the trance and electro section is 2003! And the rest are just jokes...

I'll bet you'd get over 20 points, probably closer to 40...

Help change the ID Contest to a more interesting one with less obscure music and more contestants by taking part and giving pointers to the next contest's holder!

Hour or two isn't enough to spend on contest. Nobody usually don't have all the track/id's on their hdd so they have to download many tracks and verify current id's and that takes a lot of time which I don't right now have...

Woohoo no return of JJ-T1, that guarantees 1 less person has a higher score than me

How can you download a track if you don't know it's name?

Posted by on Jul-23-2006 01:46:

I suck at IDing.. even in my own genre of DJing...

Sensing artist style and downloading his products.

fucking hell, if i suppose for a second even that all the winners up till now have used that method, the id contest can fuck right off.

I thought ID contests are about showing your knowledge of music by IDing tracks you already know... But oh well.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't think people participate in that way, I just think that participating in that way would be the most fair and honest way to do it. =)

True, everybody locked in a controlled environment would be the most fair way.

But I feel that the contest's are a way of getting to think about the music, try to find out whose style it is and explore their productions until you find the correct answer.

What fun is it just to ramble up a list of stuff you know?

Granted, the googlable ones are quite lame...

Posted by Gauss on Jul-23-2006 21:36:

In that case the ID contest should have a more defined goal... Winner should be either the one who IDs the biggest number of tracks by already knowing them or the one who IDs the biggest number of tracks by haunting them down thanks to, for example, googling lyrics or recognizing certain artist's style.
