The water helped too, tricks you into feeling full. Oh, and the cost.... the diet is expensive ($360/month at the time, don't know what it is now) so the motivation to get to your goal weight and off the diet as fast as possible is pretty high.

Okay my question is this: (concerning all those drugs that increase your metabolic rate) can i take them knowing i have a bad heart (i can't have any caffeine, high sugars, or anything that'll increase my heartrate)? I'm desperate to lose weight but i also don't want to end up getting palpitations and feel dizzy all night just because i took one of those pills =/

No. You should not take them.

I don't know of any metabolic boosters that don't also increase your heart rate. I'd suggest you talk to your doctor but I'm guessing a bad heart + metobolic enhancers = bad.

godammit! i thought that might be the answer bah! i guess it's the slow way for me then

If you are thinking about the Bernstein Diet...there are no metabolic boosters in the diet. Your calorie intake will be around 900 cals but you do take supplements as well...other then the B6 and B12 injections.

I would suggest not trying anything that gets the old heart going....its just not worth the risk.

As long as you want to achieve the results internally and you get over those barriers that are along the way and dont give up, you should be fine by puting your mind into it!

consult a certified kinesiologist for help if necessary. if anyone has any specific questions, post them up, i'll be glad to help out as long as it is within my field of expertise.

Vlady, if only you lived closer I would make you my personal trainer

that's not entirely true, ppl can definitely lose weight w/o working out, it simply is about input and output, if you start consuming 1200 cals per day from 3000 cals and you are overweight the pounds will come off, exercise just helps you burn more calories and develop muscle so you burn calories more efficiently, but losing weight w/o excercise can certainly be done. Diet is far more important than just 30 minutes of cardio a day, if you are burning 300 calories on a machine once a day but consuming 5500 cals per day, you'll still be a fatty. Unless you spend your whole day working out, then a person who is overfat and overeats is not going to have very favourable results.

Has your Dr. checked out your thyroid? Might be worth looking into. One guy I knew was pretty thin, found out the thyroid was 'off', had a surgery and boom- instant weight gain.

I ususally drink sparkling water, as to avoid the chemicals, but I'd still like to know!

Simple sugars suppress appetite so if you feel hungry but don't want to eat at that moment have a hard candy, or some chocolate (even though it has too much fat).

Complex sugars increase appetite so if you want to eat more/more often then eat an fruit for snacks.

So my friend at work is seeing a nutritionist, and they gave her this diet, so I thought I'd try it too.

Expected weight loss is 12-20 lbs in two weeks.

You can't eat any dairy, sugars, carbs, no alcohol.

You can eat meats, veggies (but nothing grown under the ground, so no onions, beets, carrots - You're not even allowed peas!).

I've been on it 5 days, and holey smokes. My energy level is waaaaay up and it's really changed my outlook on food. I've dropped at least 5 lbs already, and can't wait to look more! I've been struggling at the gym, but this has really helped me to see results. I've been doing long distance walking, too, in preparation for my breast cancer walk in September.

(I'm not a porker, but my mother-in-law is coming to visit and I want to look and feel my best. I'll also be careful about what I start eating again after my two weeks.)

Have any of you tried this or what diets have worked for you?

I started this exact diet in February and lost 13 pouds in 2 months. Now it's just maintenance and I look and feel 100%better.

I highly recommend it.

The only thing is that I did not cut out any "party favours".

And it worked juuuuuusst fine. :-)

I would just add to this to avoid alcohol as much as possible. The calories are significant but alcohol also affects the metabolism of fat in your body, making it harder to drop weight.

Alcohol is by far the biggest obstacle in my diet...everything you've said above I generally follow, although sometimes I do eat dinner and then go to bed an hour later because some nights I don't get home from work/class til 10pm.

carbs 4 kcals/gram
protein 4
fat 9

alcohol 7!!!!!!!

people keep forgetting that! you drink a 6-pack and that's more than half of your daily calorie intake!!

Posted by Euphorica on May-07-2006 17:10:

Not only that , but when you ingest alcohol your body will immediately stop burning all other sources of energy and will only burn the alcohol...until its gone, so anything you eat around that time is generally stored as fat.
