exactly. maybe you should eat your words, southbound, since you think u're so almighty. puhlease. come join in the World Cup forums if you know so much about it. actually no, people with comments like that annoy the shit out of me and everyone else posting in there.

US played a good game but they also got verry lucky. i admire their effort very much and willingly admit that the italians were not on par because they're arrogant as shit.

I definitely disagree that the U.S. team was lucky. They were playing with 9 vs. 10 men and held serve and really was more of the aggresor until that 2nd red card. Too aggressive obviously. I don't think other countries just expect to win against the U.S. anymore (thus being too arrogant). Would we say Ghana got lucky against the Czechs considering they should be the underdog? Well, they might have less talent but they played better that day. That is the nature of the world cup.

Luck for US = Autogoal by zaccardi. no?

Unlucky having a terrible ref favoring the Italians (or at least being too part of the match). Even if he was right in his calls, he allowed the game to get too rough in the beginning and then decided to throw out guys later.

An own goal is bad skill. Shouldn't have kicked it in the goal. Set pieces, shiznut can happen.

Anyway, now I got to root for your boys.

dude you have to be kidding me!! no offense... but srsly.. autogoal has absolutley nothing to do with skill.. it was an accident..

the ref was preventing the game from getting too rough BY MAKING the calls that you're deeming bad... didn't he kick out de rossi and pope?! they were stirring up some major trouble and absolutely deserved to be ejected.. but as the 2nd half, there was some obv. calls he missed out on but fuck knows why.. that's why they call him irregular.. his calls were fine.. just bc he red carded mastroeni, the ref was favoring the italians? nah dude.. if u were paying attention in the 2nd half, he was missing calls left and right from both sides.. PLUS italy also got yellow cards given to zambrotta and totti.. i think u need to rethink ur perspective meng...

I'll never understand why people born in the United States would rather see the United States lose... You're born in America, and last time I checked, that makes you an American, not German or Italian or whatever else. But, to each his own, I guess.

^ i grew up literally torn between two cultures-- with my friends i was american and with my parents it's a totally other side of me. and in this case, i followed in my parents' footsteps with soccer i suppose. dont really have a reason.. i support the US as well.

but, u know, it's not necessarily about national pride shamee..do i Have to support US just cuz i'm born here? what's wrong with rooting for ghana?

btw, i'm also rooting for germany after italy

Posted by yankeeBaby on Jun-19-2006 03:47:

I am ALL ABOUT THE NETHERLANDS!!!!!!!! GO DUTCH!!!

PS: I love the American team as well, and will root for them till the END!! But my heart is with my dutchies..........

Posted by intelligent77 on Jun-19-2006 11:39:

WOOHOO! i haven't been on here in ages.. but its nice to see a thread that is about a sport I actually like...

btw - I think brazil's comeback in the second half was necessary! But both them and the french aren't playing like I thought they would... I wanna see brazil dance with the ball! And I must agree with the commentators that their defense is slacking in the middle tremendously... i think that game definitely could have gone either way.. australia definitely put in some good goal opportunities...

france vs. korea - i was a little bored... what was up with that goal they didn't call... france should have won, but I think the korean's were the better team for sure that game!

No, I understand where you're coming from. But it just seems to me that no one cares about the US team, despite being born here. And US soccer will never take off like it should if that is the case.

And think of it this way, how many people born in Italy are rooting for Brazil or Spain before they cheer for the Italian team? Now... how many people born in America are more excited if Italy or England wins than if the United States does? That's my real point...

That's a great point. I can't tell you how many fights i get into with my friends who r born and raised in NJ but are flyer or ranger fans. I have no probelm with likin multiple teams but don't hate one of the only teams from your state. GO DEVS!!!!!
That said, I think a basic trait for many americans is that we as a culture like winners. That combined with the fact that we are one of the only countries where people form their identity through both the country they are living in and the country of their parents/grandparents etc... Its really hard to find a british or german citizen who does the hyphen thingy.

let's go dutch! (just for today)

Posted by Member of X on Jun-21-2006 17:51:

Argentina vs. the Dutchies is a classic matchup. I'm distraught that I'm gonna miss this duel while I'm at work. I really like both teams, so it's gonna be hard for me. The deciding factor will be... which country has the hottest women. Well, Argentina is a powerhouse in that regards so I'm siding with them this time. However, I love Ruud so either way, it'll be fun.

On the plus side, at least Italy's up, so they're upholding their end of the deal to get us in.

Posted by Groundhog Boy on Jun-22-2006 14:48:

And the US ties it up at 1.

Sucks that I have to wait til later to watch it on Tivo at home.

I'm reading that the penalty that led to the converted PK was pretty questionable. Anyone see and can confirm/deny?

LETS GO KOREA !!!!!

yep it was a bullshit call
what a day for the refs, in particular the one in the Ausie vs Croatia wh was just horrible and then to top it off giving a player 3 yellow cards

i toss my hat to the ground in honor for that achievement

Posted by Dirichlet on Jun-23-2006 13:20:

+1 on the bullshit calls...

Posted by chimera66 on Jun-23-2006 16:11:

aren't these refs monitored? i am a casual soccer fan so i'm unsure, i mean from what i've seen so far there are some crappy refs and the players milk it. don't get me wrong i have enjoyed the tournament, but can someone explain why the players are such babies? i understand why they would want to draw a penalty but their actions are just a little much.

maybe i'm biased because i'm used to watching hockey players get really hit and hurt, but continue playing.
