man that party rocked SERIOUS ass. So many great memories. First of all, I loved every single act (except Mark Oliver, didn't really feel his set too much, but i'm not too into housy prog anyway so meh). Lawrnece was a complete surprise the way he threw down a very energetic, driving set that was almost a combination of psy and uplifting melodic trance. I actually expected him to play techy, proggy house just like he used to when he first got with Perfecto - but man did he prove me wrong.
Then came Markus, what a great guy! I met him behind the stage and took a picture with him, such a friendly dj who clearly appreciates his fans. His set was great too, was my first time seeing him live. He dropped Air 4 Life and then I knew Aalto - 5 HAD to come right after it, and sure enough it did. And helsinki scorchin' was amazing as usual, that song kills every time.
Second Sun took over after that, it was real cool to see a live PA. It was a total shocker to find out that one of the guys was actually going to SING, i've never really listened to Second Sun actively so I had no idea they sang themselves - i just thought they were synth junkies
The singer had a great great great voice, and he was not lip synching and he had the crowd rocking the fuck out. One thing though, lol, looking at him hopping around on stage with his mohawk, I couldn't help but sing "Y - M - C - A".
Around 4, 4:30am, it was Johan's turn. This is the dj most of us NYTA's came for - at least Rob, Brandon, and I. I've only seen him live once, at club Avalon here in New York and I was not impressed. But Rob got me pretty pumped up and convinced me to give Johan another chance, so I was pretty excited to see if he could throw down quality trance this time. And wow ... did he throw down some NAAAASTY shit
!!! Highlights of his set:
1.) Lethal industry. That whole part of the mix was genius. Johan built up the breakdown by looping a simple, dark, tech drumloop for about 3 or 4 minutes. No variation at all, just steady drums banging out. At one point I thought he was having technical difficulties or something was stuck on repeat. The next thing I know the loop is gradually fading out into and everything/everyone is just getting pretty quiet. Then ... in full force, the original synth from lethal indstury just riiiiiips through Dun, Dun-dun-dun, Dun, Dun-DUN-DUN! I went absolutely mental, will never forget that moment.
2.) Slipstream. Yo Ron, it was so great meeting you bro, and it was sweeeet hearing your track in the club. The bassline was thumping but I loved how the track is really lush and warm, has plenty of energy, but at the same time it's got this chilled-out vibe to it. I'm jealous of you lol, you got to hear your track live in a club played by a superstar dj!! That's my dream ... And Shade, great meeting you too, you're a real cool guy and it was real nice to see you go "You're Stan Void!?" It was like I had a real fan
Hope to see you again some day dood, definitely would love to party again with you and Ron.
3.) The best moment of the whole night, bar none: Chicane - Saltwater, the mysterious uplifting, 2000-style trance remix. You know, honestly, I don't know how Johan managed to find the absolutely perfect track to close out with, but he sure fucking did. EVERYONE in the club loved it, and the melody from the track's been stuck in my head for days now. I was humming it on the way to work today, just remembering the night all over again and all the great memories. Magical, a classic.
To the TOTA's, you guys are a really friendly and fun community! I never met so many 'celebrity' TAs at one party haha. I mean - Sunquest, DJ AMPz, and of course the Swampster!!! I never thought I'd see the friggin creator of this site. Dunno if you remember me, Del, we didn't speak too long but I just wanna say again what I said to you at the club - THANK YOU for tranceaddict! Oh, and, the girls of TOTA - ya'll are hot! ... All I could think of was "wow, these girls don't belong on the internet"
All in all - one of the best trance parties I've been to in my life! Def. in the 3. Thanks to the Guv, Canada, the TOTAs, and of course to all the NYTAs that stepped up and hauled ass to Toronto
Stan.

Mr Tang, thank you for the b-day present, and dee thanks for being my date
. Markus was really the only Dj who did it for me on friday night, everyone else was good, but nothing i would write home about. Found the number of sketch balls was a little redicules, but ah well we managed. Overall really good night, which im starting to find that the nights that u dont hype up as much tend to be the ones u have the most fun
till next time

| Originally posted by tatgirl Johan is the ONLY DJ who gets me moving that way. I've danced to the point where my ankles were killing with edema (in Miami) and kept going. I wasn't gonna stop til my ankles snapped in two. Its a shame so many people bitch about him. Sure, sometimes the flow is off, or people may not like his stage presence, but he definitely plays tunes that will make you jump around. Next to Eddie Halliwell, this guy brings the most skills to the decks out of all the trance DJ's. Anyone who saw him yrs back spin Igor S "Boomerang" on 3 decks will know what I'm talking about. He's also probably the DJ I've seen the most times in my career (approaching 20x now), surpassing Mauro Picotto's #1 rank. |
i thought overall it was an awesome night.
came in at the beginning of Lawerence's set and saw Shaya snapping those awesome pics. Lawerence was amazing, great tunes that always kept me moving. Schulz was the hit for me that night. Awesome tracks all the time. I was going crazy when he was up there. Second Sun didn't do anything much for me. Some songs were great while others we not so much. I was outside chatting it up with a bunch of people while they were up there and came back to the KH for Johan. He had some great tracks and was keeping me moving. BUT, there were times that he would build up the track and never drop the beat.... that was a big let down for me. But overall, awesome night.
