definitely not a "scam".

I think what Graham (and hopefully Geroin) meant is that it *could* (not) be understandable to see an after hours place trying to prevent people from filling up water...since they only have admission and water/energy drink sales revenue...but given that Saunic also had a liquor license for the event, the 'no filling water' tactics were that much more unacceptable than they are anyway.

Posted by Jayx1 on Aug-11-2006 19:20:

the water situation is def a questionable issue if true.

Thats BS

But charging $40 for cover and $5 drinks isnt unreasonable.

Posted by TJB on Aug-11-2006 19:21:

Sonic had a Special Event License for this night, not a Liqour License. They have to abide by a different set of rules under the license that they got.

I am not saying that what happened was right, or fair. But I really think that we should wait to here from the club owners on this matter before we all jump to conclusions.

As well in regards to the price of tickets. I spent $30 to go to the industry reuion last year at the docks. That was the advance price. Now correct me if I am wrong, but can't the Docks hold more people then Sonic.

Why do people think that club owners should be in the "fun charity" business?

If thats what they charge its what they charge. If you dont like it, dont go.

Do you go to restaurants and complain that they are charging $2 for a can of pop they paid 50 cents for at the supermarket? Do u complain because the same $20 meal could be made at home for $4?

No.... of course not!

i would like to clarify
i do not mind paying 40 dollar cover and i've done it twice at sonic and i've done it a million times at other clubs (hell i've paid 80 bucks at LOL few years ago), i just find it ridiculous to charge 40bucks and sell alcohol (and profit from both) when obviously it doesnt cost that much to book one headliner. If it was at least 2 or 3 then it would be a diferent story. When a club has no other way to profit other than the door i respect that and i will pay high cover but to sell alcohol the same night sounds ridiculous to me. And dont give me this "if you don't like it dont go" because i did not go anyways, i just want to voice my opinion to which im entitled to.

Also if you compare how much the club charges for the entrance and the way club operates then one never equals the other. If i do pay a high amount to come in i would like to have a very good night and when the AC is busted in the middle of the summer and cold water is nowhere to be found other than the bar then i consider the service to be shit. Am i supposed to empty my wallet just not to die of dehydration? that is complete bs and i cant believe you agree with that.

seriously - don't go out. just stay home.
I don't even understand why people even complain about drink prices. holy crap you are going out to a club, I expect to drop about $100 min.
$40 - cover, $5-20 for parking, drinks... well let's not even go there.
I never understood the whole refilling the bottle thing. I just buy a new one or [if the bar is closed]ask for a cup of water from the bartender.

I down about 2-3 bottles of water an hour (yea, I'm a camel lol), you really expect me to buy 20 bottles a night or continue to harass bartenders for more cups of water?

Hmmm...depends on the venue...and other factors...

I usually buy my water...but if the place is clean, the ladies room isn't so packed and they allow you to fill up, then I'd refill my bottle as well.

Water at these places are bloody expensive IMO...but I guess we just have to suck it up for the sake of staying hydrated.

Like I previously said in my post, I would buy another bottle.
Just like I would buy another drink.

as i said before..if the water filling issue is true then thats pure shananigans. However i stand by my previous comment about charging $40 and selling alcohol.

I just had an italian guy (a real one from italy!) telling me how cheap toronto was because in florence it costs $20 CDN just to get into a pub. And most of the time the average price for an average night at a nightclub there is 30 Euros or about $45. And drinks are 9 Euros according to him.

Torontonians are spoiled hands down when it comes to pricing.

Except in Holland (I believe Jenn said it was)

You buy a fucking Heineken (not import beer for them obviously) for 1.20 euros or something! What? Around $2!

FUCK! I wanna drink beer our at a club or venue for 1-2$ only! Its not like ull get even a Canadian for that cheap here (and the beer isnt even at the same calibre.)

im not bitching about our prices, just remarking how much id be in fucking heaven if i could club and pay those low prices for beer. id be so drunk so much more often when out!

Dear TA's,

Thank you very much for attending the Industry 10 Year Anniversary at Sonic on the August Civic long weekend. We have taken the time to read a number of your suggestions and feedback regarding a number of issues at the venue. The last time we responded to any complaints was our opening night and all of issues were dealt with immediately. Likewise we are going to address all of your current issues.

The first thing that we would like to address is the heat that people felt on that Sunday. After our opening night, we received the same type of complaints about the heat. We immediately addressed the issues and spent over $10,000 to repair the HVAC units on roof of the building. On the weekend of Sunday August 6th, both HVAC units were working and were set at the lowest temperature possible. Any time you fill a room to capacity with moving bodies the temperature is going to rise. Because this room is so well insulated for sound, the room tends to hold moisture and heat. This room is in fact a floating room, the walls are built out with sound insulation, the floors are raised and covered in hard wood, and the ceilings are dropped with sound proofed tiling. For this reason heat does not escape. We are currently looking into some sort of an exhaust system to help remove heat from the room in order to address the issue. We have also ordered 6 industrial fans to help move the air around the room. We are looking at as many possibilities as possible. Boa was in fact just as hot, if not at times hotter...does anyone remember Danny Tenaglia on Canada Day? Many of us attended the Guvernment on Pride weekend, which again was just as hot. Has anyone been to Stereo when it is at capacity? Even back in the Industry days at the bigger parties...clubs get hot when they are busy and people are dancing. Either way, we are going to do our best to address the issue to keep it as cool and comfortable as possible.

The second issue that needs to be addressed is the issue of taking water bottles into the bathrooms. When the club initially opened, we had a couple of incidents where people stuffed red bull cans, and bottles of water down the toilets. This obviously made a huge mess and caused a great expense for the venue. The washroom attendants took it upon themselves to disallow bottles of water and red bull cans etc into the bathrooms due to this reason. This was brought to our attention on a couple of occasions and both times we addressed the issues with the bathroom attendants immediately. For some reason unbeknown to us, they have not taken direction very well. As of this weekend, those bathrooms attendants have been replaced with people that will allow bottles of water into the bathrooms.

Last but not least, the issue of water in the bathrooms. We currently have water saver faucets which have a push button on a timer which releases water every time you press the button. Unfortunately with those faucets, you do not have individual temperature control and you can not decide on hot or cold water. Both the hot and cold water mix when the button is pushed creating warm water. In the coming weeks we are also going to be changing the faucets so that you will have individual control and can get either hot or cold water.

We hope that these answers are satisfactory and as you come into the club in the coming weeks changes will have been made. Should you have any other comments or feedback please do not hesitate to e-mail us at [email protected]

Kind Regards,

Sonic Owners and Management
