that's the thing about countries vs. governments, lol. I don't agree with the current administration's views on foreign policy but that doesn't mean I'd want to leave the country. I'll just be patient and exercise my vote in the next election and if i believe enough in my views i'd try to make a difference by garnering as much support as i can. unfortunately, i couldn't give a flying fuck.

its fine to dislike something about your country, not so fine to have no respect for it if it provides you opportunity that you could not have without it.

I am not a fan of US foreign policy either. You chose to make it your home though, therefore you should not shit on your own choices (or your parents) because really you shit on yourself.

dude, our/our parents' choice to move here was based more on education, infrastructure, and domestic laws, all of which were established over centuries, vs. the current wars in the middle east. how the fuck can you compare the two?

Government is a creation of the people, there to serve the people. Now of course you can argue that some take too much from the Government or do not contribute their part, but as a human faculty, it is not there to exist in itself; it is merely a tool - like fire, a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

Now how would you define respect? Respect in the way that you respect your war-veteran Grandfather or respect in the same way you would respect a fire?

I do not agree with Iraq...Afghanistan i agree 100% with. Even if i may not agree with a war, i respect wanting to have my countrymen to come back in one piece.

i didnt do anything special yesterday and forgot a bit about it to be honest (but then being stuck in bed sick is somewhat a good excuse) but anyway WWI and II is still present in a lot of mind of people.Even me several people of my family served in the army during the wars but even after the WWII people still remenber how it was and how hard it was about it or even when france was occupied
Last week my grandpa was telling me how they were astonished back in the day by americans being in france with a lot of things locals never really saw.
i hope all this will remain for the next generations to understand fully how lucky we are to live in a country with so many freedoms and rights and that it's absolutely necessary to keep them and fight for them when anything can threaten them

Enjoy the ribs, sadly if i was in Guatemala, i would have to be chained to bed with pants on for me to be able to enjoy ribs. I wish i could have your freedoms

Does everyone understand that Remembrance Day (commonwealth) and Veterans Day (US) is about paying homage to all soldiers who fought for the Commonwealth and/or the US? Whether you believe in the present war(s) is pretty much immaterial. Those that fought/fight do so because they believed/believe in furthering their countries interests and safeguarding their countrymen... they may be correct and just or they may be completely erred but you must respect the intention and the sacrifice, as they are nearly all greater men then you or I.

umm they had no choice but did it.

soldiers don't start wars, politicians do. no matter if you agree with a war or not, respect those that go and sacrifice their lives so that you don't have to. the majority of them don't want to be there either, nobody knows the horror of war better than a soldier.

The problem with people born after WW2 is that the majority of them have never really have their freedom threatened so they don't properly respect those willing to sacrifice their lives to defend it. WW2 was the last war that had grave consequences if we lost and also wasn't an easy win. Yes, now historians believe that there was no way Hitler could have won the war, but put yourself in occupied Europe in 1940 before he made all those poor military decisions, or put yourself in America shortly after Pearl Harbor when the war in the Pacific wasn't going well. People who were alive then know what it was like to have your freedom threatened, they knew what would happen if Germany was allowed to win the war in Europe so they respected the sacrifices made by millions of young people to make sure that didn't happen.

Funny that a lot of the people who take this shit for granted would have fallen into one of the groups targeted by Hitler for ethnic cleansing.

so...no one out there agrees with me?
