How was a man in a library refusing to show his ID "asking for it?". Let's think of this... If Joe Smith, Mr. blonde-haired, blue-eyed California beach jock had forgotten his ID, not been able to present it, then wanted to leave the library (for whatever reason), would we be hearing about this? |

a few points:
-- the kid didn't have his ucla ID on him and was headed out of the building when approached [i mean, why even bother when someone's leaving?] i forget my ID all the time, as do a lot of students. this sort of thing usually gets resolved with a two-second explanation ("i forgot it dude") but apparently the guard was having none of it.
-- ucla guards are a sub-branch of the lapd [it's a public school] and are no ordinary schmoes. [being a public institution, ucla is also supposed to be more flexible than a private school when it comes to people walking around its campus].
-- even a single taser shot is excessive in this non-physical situation, but continuing to taser the dude when he's cuffed and getting dragged around like a rag doll is criminal and disgusting.
-- most cops do a great job for low pay and under awful conditions. knee-jerk critics need to realize this (as they will when they need a cop someday). reflexive cop defenders need to realize there are a lot more scumbag cops out there than they care to acknowledge.
(my campus has had id-related troubles recently too. guards got physical with a student who wouldn't show his id (on a street adjacent to campus) when asked. kid was black. cops say they were following procedure, but it's fishy when you consider that (a) almost no one ever gets asked for id (b) two days later there was a repeat with another black student)
DE OPRESSO LIBER! To liberate the oppressed! How can someone just stand there and watch a helpless person get fucked over like that.
I'd take a bullet for a decent person, that's why I'm joining the military.
- From a friend who cares.
I think you may find yourself hopelessly disillusioned.

MY OPINION IS THIS:Why didnt the student just show him his id?,and if he didnt have an id why did he try to leave? the officer had a reosanble(s/p) comand for him to follow.UCLA POLICE were doing there job on this one

Oh boy, so I venture out of the PDD hole with the advice of Groundhog Boy to see this argument posted here in COR prior to my double-post in PDD:
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=382577
I think for the most part most here are working through this pretty good. The kid was clearly being a recalcitrant ass, no question. He wanted a scene and got one.
With all that said, it seems the consensus agrees that the use of force, i.e. multiple tasing while being handcuffed, clearly do not justify the cause of that force. Furthermore, the threat of being tased for asking badge numbers is clearly a serious violation as well.
As I mentioned in PDD, I advocate the use of tasers by the police PROVIDED they are used and not abused. This case seems pretty clear cut of the latter of multiple tases going way too far. I don't know if even the first tase was necessary, but clearly after that there was a line crossed. The use of these weapons are still in their infancy, so hopefully our police force can learn a bit more from this.
that cnt deserved it... he started all the shitter when he began to scream like a fucking bitch "don't touch me, dont touch me" to a police officer
