Kitchener, Ontario.... hmm... home of RIM (well waterloo really but what's the diff?), the largest Bavarian festival outside of Munich, birthplace of.... me, and was called Berlin until the first great war when most of the Germans who inhabited the town were thrown into internment camps (my great grandpa included) and those of English and Scottish decent siezed the opportunity to show the Kaiser a lesson by changing the name to that of an English Naval hero, oh and the location of the famed University of Waterloo (which due to it's world class engineering department and love of foreign students is now officially the 6th largest Asian nation).... oh, and my school Wilfrid Laurier University (a bastion of the WASP elites in Canada... I'm not sure how I got in there).

None are exclusive, but all belong to CA. California also has the greatest variation in climate I think of any state, not to mention the lowest and highest points in the continental states. /travel agent

Yeah its butt feckin expensive, and the smog can be bad, and theres alot of people, but we are one of the most environmentally forward thinking states!

^^^ California is the micro cosim for North America as a whole. You got a whack of rednecks outside of the major centres, a boat load of poor mexicans trying to scrape by, a bunch of rich jews running the show, and a handful of Canadians doing everything better then everyone else but trying despertly not to be identified as Canucks.... oh and dirty, slutty women everywhere trying to get paid for nothing more then taking the dick.

Northern Cali = Wonderful.

Southern Cali = Hell on Earth. Well, I mean besides the Vatican.

It's a nice place to visit, but I could never stay - I much prefer Oregon and Washington on the left coast.

But as far as the environmentally forward thinking part - Eh, you're half right. The problem is that there is enough of a republican/business/entertainment lobby in California securing lower production costs combined with increased total output at the expense of some fairly serious environmental legislation. So while a lot of high profile environmental legislation and proposals in Cali get loads of coverage from national news media, in general the "business" end of things is still winning out - Hopefully this will change over the course of the next few years though

But hey, Wisco's no better. It's cold and full of white people here.

And a lot of us hate people who are different. It's really a bummer.

Posted by Clovis on Nov-20-2006 19:53:

I heard the crime is getting ugly over there too.

And there are republicans messing shit up in every state not just ours

there are many who would argue that is in fact better (no I'm not one of them.... maybe).

The crime outbreak in Wisconsin has more to do with methamphetamines than anything else. The one thing that has been very sad to watch over the last few years has been the almost unbelievable stratification between rich and poor, which I realize is happening nation wide, however the divide seems especially clear in Wisconsin.

Beyond that, we have probably one of the single most corrupt Governors in the country, though I can deal with his corruption because his desire is to meet ends I find desirable. Maybe not the most ethical approach, but honestly, far better than the alternative.

Wow, this thread sure grew while I was asleep

Ok, another random fact...

Brisbane (and a good portion of Australia, though I am unsure of their exact situations) is experiencing a severe drought. We are currently on level 4 water restrictions, meaning that there is a complete ban on hosing for any purpose. Any garden plants that require watering must me done by bucket, and only allowed on specific days of the week. The dam supplying Brisbane's water is below 25% full.

Here another fact about Santa Clarita. The interchange where the 14 starts and where the collapse happened is in Santa Clarita

quote:
Parts of Route 14's interchange with Interstate 5 near Los Angeles collapsed during both the 1971 Sylmar earthquake and the 1994 Northridge earthquake. The interchange of SR-14 and I-5 is dedicated as the "Clarence Wayne Dean Memorial Interchange." Dean was an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department who was killed at the interchange in a traffic accident on a transition road that collapsed as a result of the Northridge quake, January 17, 1994.

I really do enjoy living here It's big enough that you can still get most things (important things anyway), but not so big that it's like a rat race.

Population is approx. 1.8 million, river city, lots of trees (assuming we get any rain), lots of room, and the music scene isn't too bad.

It is very sleepy compared to a lot of cities though. I don't know if that's good or bad
