You would agree that is not to be taken lightly in all contexts though. I agree that sometimes it is necessary to let things slide to diminish the potential for conflict, as Richards should have done with the heckling, but when someone insinuates that in other times he would've had you lynched for bothering him while he speaks, I don't agree that that is to be taken lightly. Even when given the context it could be interpreted as being a "joke".

Anyone see the apology yet?

Jerry to the rescue.

Still, a pretty weak attempt at cleaning up the situation. It shows he regrets what he said, but obviously the damage is already done.

On the surface, people make such a fake show of respect for other cultures.

But the slightest provocation tends to bring out the real racist self from within. Sad.

Even if he did say something that "merited" a remark like that, to say that it is allowed to be racist if someone is being racist to you doesn't solve anything.

That's bullshit! People all over latin american use skin color as a way of reffering to someone. Oye "negro" etc.

And do you have a rocket pack on your back ?

Posted by ZeJayMan on Nov-22-2006 01:57:

I believe white people are more problematic than black people.

Good job stereotyping based off of the small percentage of a group that you've come in contact with.

How many people do you encounter in scotland? lol.

Even if you did, they would have a completely different culture than the blacks events@spec is referring to.

Posted by Omega_M on Nov-22-2006 02:07:

I've met so many black people here in South Carolina. Most of them are friendly and courteous and treat you with respect.

Posted by ZeJayMan on Nov-22-2006 02:08:

I encounter a lot of different nationalities in my life and although i'm not the ruling authority on race superiority, i'd have to say that black people have caused far less problems in world history and in modern day life than white people, particularly white males. I think that the media exaggeration of the problems caused by the "black male" has a lot to do with the overwhelming degree of fear and hatred aimed towards ethnic minorities in North America.

And this kind of thinking is exactly where racism has spawned from.

Posted by Sunsnail on Nov-22-2006 02:14:

I would definitely agree with you. There is still a lot of prejudice here, although not nearly as overt as it used to be. As for who has caused more problems, maybe. I think it depends on where you live, and what you are familiar with. If you are living in the middle of Africa, you probably aren't blaming your problems on the white man. If you're going to say that then, who has made the most advancements in technology?

Yep, lumping an entire group of people into a category based on a select few has been a problem since civilization started. (Wow that was a mouthful!)
