MotorStorm Review:

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/768/768820p1.html

Verdict: 8.9

Only detractors to the score would be lack of options. Apparently the game itself is among the most amazing racing games ever made. Good news if you ask me. The PS3 needs some killer apps.

The screenshots for that game are RETARDED!!! Sick ass graphics!!

I have yet to start saving for me PS3. Hard to do when I get paid on a weekly basis. Not only that but the only game I want for PS3 (for now) is Metal Gear Solid 4 and it's not even out yet. I still want this system though...I am a Sony whore after all lol.

It's better to wait anyway, since then by the time you get a PS3, a library of games will be fully-established, blu-ray will have unleashed plenty of titles, and also several firmware updates will have been released that will inevitably fix many of the problems that the PS3 may have right now. To be honest, I dont think the PS3 has that many more problems, but I can tell you for sure that the Playstation Network is probably going to undergo a lot of changes for the better.

So PS3 has upgradeable firmware just like PSP, eh? Was never aware of that, chief. Hopefully the updates will help, indeed.

Unfortunately it's been the other way around. The 360's head start and lower price are the 2 major players on that one. However, I see the PS3 having a lot more longevity. For now, the HD buffs will grab one and drop their jaws in awe at the amazing visuals...then in 3 years, everyone else will pick one up once they finally get their HDTV and the price drops.

So for those of you who think the PS3's online interface is a little bare-boned right now, or for those of you who think the lack of achievements is a real bummer....you're in for a surprise.

Playstation Home

Sony's answer to WiiConnect and Xbox Live

http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2185

And

http://kotaku.com/gaming/sony/rumor...home-240746.php

We just received a very interesting tip that, while juicy and quite believable, we're labeling as rumor for now. As you are probably well aware, GDC executive director Jamil Moledina set Sony's Phil Harrison up for the spike yesterday, claiming that PLAYSTATION 3 owners will be "very happy" when Phil's keynote takes place next week.

Could the PlayStation Home, Sony's blending of achievements and Miis be that big surprise?

While the rumor seems to make sense, keep in mind while reading through it that it came from an anonymous source and that the half-dozen development studios we spoke with hadn't heard a thing about it.

Sony, when contacted earlier today, said they do not comment on rumors or speculation.

Playstation Home sounds like it could be an interesting, lo-fi, killer app, as described by our source.

Basically, you get to make an avatar for your console (like a Mii) and this avatar has a room. As you play games and accomplish certain tasks, you will receive items with which to adorn the room that are specific to the game (achievements). The kicker is that this is going to be a new requirement for every PS3 game...

This also sounds kind of like it could fulfill the promise Sony made at last year's GDC keynote to bring social networking to the PS3.

So we move from product based to service based, starting with packaged product augmented by downloadble content. We'll enhance this with social networks, the MySpace experience, this will be a key part of the PlayStation3 going forward. What brings it to life is the voice chat, the text chat, the video, the social features we're building in for the future.

Rooting around some recent (and not so recent) comments from Sony spokespeople, we find some things that might just validate this.

From Phil's recently published DICE interview with Newsweek editor N'Gai Croal comes this tidbit, following a discussion on the "lo-fi" approach Nintendo took with their Mii avatars:

"If you are going to have an avatar which is your representative in a virtual world, it has to stand for more of your personality than some 2-D cartoons. So while I think that millions of people would be happy with cartoony looks, the planet at large probably isn't. And it's an experiment that will be played out very soon, actually."

From Dutch gaming site Next Generation Gamer comes this choice quote from an unidentified Sony rep:

"We have something big coming up for the PlayStation Network, but I can't say anything about that yet. It has something to do with the Home Button on the SIXAXIS controller, and with the community."

Again, this is rumor. Our source continues to remain anonymous. Sony could be announcing the robust set of social features it has been touting for a long time, ones that go beyond voice and video chat, and tap into the collective and competitive feature sets that helped make both Xbox Live and Animal Crossing a hit with gamers.

Realize that the article I copied and pasted above is a week older than the trailer that's before it, so that 'big surprise' you read about has actually already been revealed...

So basically a quick rundown on what this is...an entirely virtual world. You create a person, you visit other people, chat with other people (either via text or video), you play small arcade games with people, you play PS3 games with other people, you win trophy's (soo basically PS3 IS getting achievements unlike previously thought), and so and so forth. You can share videos, share MP3's, share files off PSP's, share files off your PS3 hard drive....My god the possibilities are fucking endless. I'm not sure if you are seeing this people, but Sony has something big on their hands here. At least thats what I'm getting out of this. Very interesting to see what happens as a result.

THAT game is the main reason why I want a PS3...I'm a big Metal Gear Solid fan. The pics and videos of that game are absolutely fuckin' SICK.

I still do want a PS3 besides that reason though, since I'm a Sony whore haha.

ordered a PS3 yesterday along with Motorstorm

It appears the 20GB has now been discontinued from Sony's official store. Those of you looking for the cheaper alternative might be shit outta luck.

Just thought I'd link ya'll to the Calling All Cars! review over at IGN. Its the best, original downloadable game available on ANY console, besting even the 360's Live Arcade library, according to IGN. Notice how I said original...so dont go shouting how Symphony of the Night is better. Good to see some goodness out of the PS3 once again.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/783/783536p1.html

It was designed by the same guy behind the God of War games. Now see, that last sentence got ya'll curious didnt it? Its available tomorrow aka April 26.

ATTENTION: Connerman

Well, I'm FINALLY here with ya! PS3 baby!!!

60GB model...they didn't have any 20GB models but whatever.

At least....I HAVE ARRIVED!!!

/me is happy

Posted by DarkAngel on Jun-23-2007 00:56:

Heh.

You know what. Now that I actually have a PS3, now I know why this thing has such a bloated price tag.

This thing is virtually a computer.

Online capability, downloads...watch movies, play mp3s..so much shit.

This model actually has built-in CompactFlash/SD card/Memory Stick readers built in to the left of the disc drive (I seriously didn't know about this till I read up on it.)

Wow.

But so far, this thing was worth every penny. Can't wait to get my next game!

Posted by CONNERMAN2000 on Jun-23-2007 22:09:

heeeeeeeeeeeeellllllll yes.

Now see, I'm glad you fucking realized WHY you gotta shell out so much $$$. People bitch and moan, but seriously, play around with the thing, the PS3 could probably colonize Mars.

Now, get to work and make some money, pick up:

Resistance = Incredible, amazing, outstanding. A lot of shit here is done better than any of the Halo's. Plus 40 person online free multiplayer? buckle up.

Motorstorm = Probably the best looking racing game ever. Shit tons of fun. No split screen multi though, gotta stick to the free online.

Virtua Fighter 5 = Havent played yet, but hear its the best of all VF's. If your a fan, do it.

Comin up we will have Uncharted and Lair, both look to be totally wild.

Then theres Warhawk, which is online ONLY and has to be purchased via the PSN online service. Meaning it'll probably be cheaper than EVERY other new game out there. People are claiming this shit will be THE reason for a PS3 come September. Some of the beta testers claim its the wildest shit they've ever seen online since its something like 32 v. 32 or something. craaazy.

congrats and enjoy!

Posted by babyvsrhino on Jun-24-2007 15:59:

I'm so excited for Lair and I don't even have a PS3 yet.

Thanks man. Resistance and Motorstorm sound like total winners to me. Virtua Fighter was never my thing so I'll have to pass on that one, but the graphics are def. stunning.

I saw a video trailer for Warhawk, def. looks sick!

When I was buying my PS3 at EB Games the salespeople were talking & raving about this game. Sounds like something I might have to check out...

I'm still looking to buy my first new game for the PS3 haha.

I've had mine since January, and have only been using it for BD! No games really interested me...I recently picked up NBA 2007 last week because I saw it for $20.00 used at EB, which I thought was a great deal.

...want some good RPGs to come out soon!

Oh shit, welcome to the gaming forum man.

Yeah, the salesguy at EB told me that PS3 is actually the cheapest BluRay Disc player on the market right now.

I also recently read an article that Blockbuster is choosing BluRay over HD-DVD.

Hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I love it! GO SONY!

That man is right, for now. I hear by this holiday season, the blu-ray diode will drop drastically in production costs, resulting in a possible 50% reduction in price of Blu-ray players. Meaning they will drop from about $1000 to around $500.

But for now, the PS3 is the best deal in the fucking world. think of it this way...a blu-ray player is $1000, right? The PS3 is $600. so, essentially, sony sold you a blu-ray player for $400 less AND gave you a PS3 for FREE! Oh and a PS2 and a PS1.

yeah, i'm a huge HD nerd lol so i've been doing lots of reading and stuff on other forums about the Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD battle.

The PS3 is by far the best BD player. It's the cheapest and there is a general consensus that it is the best as well. Hell, you can get the 20GB PS3 for like $599 or whatever which is a pretty good deal for a BD player.

Yeah, the clerk at EB was like, holy crap, this game is $45 cheaper then the buying it new. That the one thing i like about EB is that they have a great selection of used games and you can an EB card for 10% off used games. They also have insurance for like $1.50 or something that guarantees the game will work for like a year. Some good stuff!
