It was my first time going to Bello and it's probably the last for big events. It's a nice place but just not for big events. Like others have said, it was WAY TOO CROWDED and like a sauna in there. Part of the problem is that the two openings into the room are in the far back on either side so there was a constant flow of people trying to move past the crowded main floor to get to either side which led to the shoving and bumping. Like Sweetcandy Girl said, it seemed like the crowd was kind of rude, bumping into you, elbowing you while jumping up and down, etc. without a sorry or anything. Plus, the sound in the room was so underwhelming as well. No earplugs necessary Anyone that only goes to Bello should really take a trip up to LA and check out the sound at Vanguard. Big difference.
Anyways, it was nice to see Armin having a great time spinning as usual and it was great that he went on at around midnight since he's been playing shorter sets the last couple of times he's been in LA.

Sorry about the triple post earlier... damn glitched board decided not to show me my post... lol.

Anyways... I know SD isn't LA. That's my point... we compare city-to-city party scenes, but really every city has their own scene and its kind of pointless in my eyes. We can compare venues overall, and I guess atmosphere and all... I jsut hate seeing how "shit" the San Diego scene is. To be frank... the ones who have to get out there and change it are all of us right here, talking about it. We're just so into the music we usually get too lazy to do anything. lol

I had a great time, I wont go denying that. The venue just isn't meant for that level of famous artist. It was nice when Markus played I thought, but Armin's fame and ability to throw a good party and all just smashed that venue.

Kath: You were at the bar in the Orange Room when we were leaving. Josh told me we might have to stay but I told him they weren't going to be letting people in to Armin for a while due to the whole legal issue and we left. Sorry about that. I was the guy in Jeans and a light blue shirt behind Josh, standing by the arch while he talked to you I think. I wasn't having a good night at that point due to a small argument I had with my gf in the club about 30 mins earlier. Sorry about that.

As per some of the rest of you. I saw you around but didn't know TA was even doing any meetups lol. I recognized the O2C buddies there, and I remember the guy in the red Armin shirt (I can't find your post man! I'm blind!) while we all waited in the GL line. lol.

it seems like you guys had a lot of fun, haha. I will be moving to SD next month--I can't wait to check out the club scene down there

ok, i just do not get san diego. i'm sorry. but seriously....i met some real cool TA's on friday, but wtf is up w/ the majority of peeps there? attitudes left and right, pushing, elbowing, FUCK THAT! this stuff NEVER HAPPENS IN LA. people in san diego need a lesson in dance floor etiquette. NOW! i've never had a worse experience at a club than last friday at belo!

i realize LA is not perfect by any means, but i almost got into 2 fights, and my friend observed two girls fighting (pulling hair, etc) on the dance floor!!!

i love san diego, but c'mon!

Even though it happened at Vanguard it wasn't an EDM night so there was a different crowd there. I think that Friday at Vanguard was a Hip Hop night?

yeah but that is rare. in the almost 2yrs i been going out its happened once.

he is right though. the crowd at Belo has progressively gotten worse over the course of the past year. when i first started to go there the crowd was quite chill and out to have a good time. now it seems there are a lot of people there just to be seen.

Was not there Friday and I don't doubt your observations were not true but come on . . . last time I went clubbing in LA was a disaster too. We stayed in a hotel in Hollywood that was a fleebag dump. After the short cab ride to the club got accosted on the one block walk to Avalon by gangbangers. Waited in a huge line that did not move. My girlfriend got hit on THREE times by e'd out washing machine couples wanting her to go threesome with them. Another girl went behind her and started trying to brade her hair. Oh yea got drinks (not mine) spilled on my white shirt twice. Went outside to the smoking area (alley way) and some guy was smoking a joint. My impressions of those in attendance was not wonderful sophisticates but more like a mixture of cool clubbers, drugged out trippers, sweaty dudes and bangers. I also remember reading the review of the show on TA and someone spotted a person with a gun in the club that night too.

LA is one of the best if not the best clubbing cities in the world due to the abundance and variety of talent and venues. . . but this kind of garbage happens all the time. Don't give me that never in LA line. Thats all.

unfortunatly belo has a hip hop room so many non-edm people come there. we tried to do a pure electronic night at 4th & B and it didnt work.

for instance we had nick warren at 4th & B and we barely pulled 450 people... we rely on street name to get us a good crowd at belo because there is a lot of talent out there that doesnt pull like armin.

sorry you guys had such a bad night.

darthseph: don't be sorry, that's totally understandable. it was good to see josh again and maybe i will see you guys at Belo some time soon...perhaps for Rank 1!

ok, if you stayed in a fleabag of a motel, that's your fault. there are plenty of nice places in LA if you want to spend the $$$. if you've only been to Avalon (which it sounds like it), i'm sorry. you went to one of the worse EDM clubs in LA. they are well known for having crackheads left and right, and bad security. i can almost guarantee the majority of peeps will agree that Avalon is not their number 1 choice for clubs. hollywood is not the safest place, esp. around the avalon, and that sucks you guys were harassed by gangbangers.

i specifically said LA is not perfect by any means, and if you're complaining that you got a drink spilled on your white shirt, that's funny. YOU'RE IN A CLUB! when i said this stuff never happens in LA, i'm referring to it's never happened to me.

i love 4th & B, and miss that place. i do not however enjoy On Broadway, and Belo. the TA's i met were AWESOME, but overall the crowd was pretentious, rude, and a group of guys behind me were screaming "YEAH ARMIN"....and Boris was the one spinning!

For what it's worth, I elbowed people in the head twice, and said sorry both times. So there.

Well said....exactly how I felt!! Armin at Tentation Sunday was so much more enjoyable. Crowded but not sweaty sauna packed and sound system...although not as good as Vanguard was still very good. Belo is nice...but IMHO .... great for hip-hop or soulful house but not #2 trance DJ in the world.

There are a lot of reasons I can explain for Nick Warren's low turnout. For one, almost no one around here would know him by that name. You should have done the whole name/alias or group name thing (like Sharam of Deep Dish). Secondly, the opener was boring as hell, hence why no one really hung out in the whole bottom area of 4th and B. He also looked like a clown in the pimp hat and all, no offense to whomever it was. Thirdly, outside of the regulars and people in the know I never saw a flyer for Love Fridays after Hernan C (or however you spell his name) so how can you expet to draw a crowd if monthly flyers aren't even out. I wouldn't necessarily be blaming SD for the bad nights Love Fridays wound up enduring near the end. If I remember correctly the first 4-6 shows went off huge. Mostly due to the fact the names were recognizable and got talked about would be my guess. 4th & B is an interesting place too. It's nice for larger shows and stage events (like a Hip Hop or local band show) but it really lacks the club feel and all. I will say I enjoyed Armin there though, and imho its a much more proper venue for Armin since the crowd would be so large.

When was this...? I musta totally missed it. The only time I heard Armin chants were right before he got in the booth.

I'm also not going to comment on the fact you had one bad time in SD and say it never happens in LA. Not to be mean, but that's some weird logic to go to generalizations by. All I can say is the crowd for Armin was more or less a joke "to be seen there" crowd. I kinda liked it when we could stay at the stage last year and not feel like sardines. lol. I mean, what happened at Belo reminded me of friggin high school dropouts and all. It was a joke of a crowd and not one to judge all of us by. You should have been there for Markus or come to the Rank 1 show. My guess is you'll get a more realistic picture. That's what fame does for people... makes them stupid and greedy. I came to dance, and danced I did in the back... and probably saved my ears a bit too.

Posted by JaySunshine on Mar-13-2007 11:25:

the armin mix-up happened well before he came out. prolly like 11pm.

re: everything else, keep in mind this was my experience (although several others had the same), but def. was not the first bad one i've had in san diego....this was the worst. minus the bad things that happened, i really enjoyed both Boris and Armin.

i've been clubbing all over SoCal since i turned 21 (now 27), so i wouldn't just diss the entire scene down there after one bad experience. like i said, i realize at ANY club, stuff like that is going to happen (i.e. Avalon and why i avoid it), but i can honestly say I'VE never experienced rude people at Spundae (when at Circus), or Vanguard...and i'm there every weekend. even at small venues in LA (like Nacional, or Tentation in Newport Beach) the dance area is tiny, but people are respectful when dancing and do not push/elbow, etc. when 4th&B was still going (which is as big if not bigger than Vanguard), i've always seen 10x more rude people. it's always been cool talking to/meeting new peeps outside the dance floor, but out there it is a completely different story.

of course, i've heard several people complain about clubs in LA, so everyone's gonna have a different experience. i think what motivated me to vent was seeing so many other people's coments on the night. i realized, it wasn't just me who felt the way i did.

on a positive note, one of my greatest memories in s.diego was when armin and markus were at 4th&B a couple of years ago. i'm pretty sure it was the first time both had been there. since then, nothing has really stood out. believe me, this will not prevent me from going back. i'm there every couple of months ALWAYS hoping for a GREAT TIME, and that's what we all should be there for.

fixed!

and just from an objective point of view for all those "dont hate on SD" peeps. the crowd at below has progressively degraded over the past 9 months. like it or not the crowd is horrible compared to a year ago. it just isnt the same. there seems to be many more rude people that dont care if they are messing with someones fun. its sad but true. dont believe me? fine. dont. but there are many people that will agree with me that the crowd has deteriorated in quality. too many people there just to be seen.

just my $.02.

the last couple of times i have been to on broadway has been a terrible or strange night: we went there for jOOf last june and we walk in to the opening dj spinning mash ups from hip hop to prince to ear piercing shit! i couldn't believe it. the promoter i feel is to blame for that! you have the best, imo, psy-trance dj in the world and that's who you have for an opener. john of course took it in stride and mixed right out of the shit into magic so it wasn't a horrible night and the crowd was great, small but great! i feel that the true edm fans were there since john doesn't draw the seen and be seen peeps.

but the worst night in SD and probably my worst clubbing experience was in september of last year at on broadway when we went to see benny bennasi!!! my God i thought i was going to get into a fight. we had people literally grabbing us by our shoulders and pushing us back to get through the crowd, drinks spilled on us, people stepping all over us and the rudest people ever!!!! stupid, drunk people everywhere. after about 30 minutes of that i looked at michelle, kris and kaine and said i'm out! we all left and went over to see half a dish (dubfire) at 4th and B which was great. plenty of dancing room, a great vibe and tons of fun. so the night wasn't a total loss but still, man did i hate on broadway at that moment.

i know different nights draw different crowds. i've had similar bad experiences at avalon as well. certain places draw more idiots so no, you can't generalize a place and all the people that go there on one night. i have started making my choices of which djs i go see based on their ranking. it seems the higher their ranking the more idiots they attract ie: armin, pvd, tiesto, etc. not to mention that they have somewhat bored me the last times i've seen them.

as stated in this ever increasingly long thread, i never had a night like that at circus with spundae and very rarely do i encounter that at vanguard or 4th and b. anyways, my 2 cents and it's half price these days

Posted by Andrieux on Mar-13-2007 23:19:

The pushing/shoving sucked. We were just waiting for 2am to come around so it would clear out a bit. And it did thank God.

Sorry to those who left early, the last 2 hours of his set trumped the first two.

Tentation was night/day difference of crowd. And Armin stayed around for pics and autographs. Unlike the retardedness of psycho "fans" at Belo.

Posted by darthseph on Mar-14-2007 22:03:

All drama aside now... for a serious question.

Anyone know what the track is that Boris plays near the end of his set with the "Sweet Lullaby" clip in it. I check BP, but none of the mixes remind me of the track. The original track was on Pure Moods if that helps anyone with the sample.

No problem buddy! I do what I can What a ridiculously crazy night, I don't think I stopped running around until 3am. That whole no re-entry thing was a complete disaster...It was good to see lots of TAs out, you guys need to come more often! We just need to take over and turn that club around!
