I was there and I agree... Oakenfold fucking blew. Dubfire > Oakenfold

As far as worst set contenders go:

Second Sun - last weekend at Pacha. Complete crap, the singer has no friggin voice (at least he's honestly trying without some harmonizer rinky-dink), the music sucked and there's no way someone can convince me that a moron jumping with knees to his chest can play synth at the same time. It was even more pathetic than Tiesto doing a JC pose to hype e-heads up.

Speaking of Trainwreckesto... erm, I won't get on that bandwagon - you know.

Going back a bit, PvD's set @ Roseland Ballroom (early 2006) was total sh!te. Place was packed but around 4AM only the wasted zombies were still trying to dangle their limbs, everyone else was sitting down. 5000 people in the place and only tiny fraction were dancing. So much for Paul's much touted "crowd reading abilities" - must have left his reading glasses at home. Oh, that's not to mention vibe-killing power outage for 5 minutes. I thought his Central Park gig would be better. hehe. Wrong again. 2 laptop crashes. retarded live drummer. ADD-riddled set with 10 second clips of songs mixed in AbletonLive. What happened to PvD spinning? Using records, cd's, mixing? using HIS SKILLS TO BUILD UP THE SOUND??? Oh, that's right. That PvD is dead. New one has become VONYC and Vandit promoting whore, instead of producing music that we've all come to love him for. Nothing worse than sell-out, commercialized wanker. Welcome to the infamous hall of fame: Oakie, Tiesto, PvD. Once known as movers and shakers in EDM scene, now relegated to "Commercialized Brand Pimps" bin.

R.I.P.

walking further down this dark alley...

Jonathan Peters @ Transit (Phila) - he must have been on some wacky crap - trainwrecking, playng crap, etc. I bailed after about an hour - couldn't stand it.

But if you're talking about listening experience - I had a displeasure of listening to Soliquid's guest set on di.fm - THE ABSOLUTE HORRIFIC SH!TE THAT I EVER HEARD. He made James Zabiela sound like euphoric trance. Oh, and J.Z. must have been trained by master torturers - listening to his sets is like driving a drill through your ear drums. Some people consider it music/art/talent... I call it COMPLETE CACOPHONY OF SH!T! My farts sound more melodic than his sets.

ok, rant over. time for my meds.

Everytime I've seen Paul Oakenfold, hence him being my most hated DJ. And before any of you say "so why do you keep watching him?" Everytime I've seen him he's played at parties and the ticket was free for me and I had no choice but to listen. But by far, the worst set I've ever heard from a "professional DJ" if you can call him that, is Oakenfold at Godskitchen Global Gathering 2002. The night was amazing, capping off with Tiesto playing the V-One remix of In My Memory leading right into Oakenfold. Tall Paul played a storming set to lead into Tiesto, remember. What does Oakie do? He starts with some really slow, deep trance song, almost ambient, chugging along the way and the set never changed from that pace. Was absolutely HORRIBLE! I'm sure others will be like "what are you talking about, that was an amazing party!" But for me, this clearly stands out as the worst of the worst!!

And to top it off, he trainwrecked everything (of course) and even played the shitty slow version of Southern Sun!!!

Not to defend but more playing devil's advocate...

Keep in mind that anybody (even the pros) can have an off day. I saw Judge Jules play a horrible set a couple years ago, too. But it was a fluke, one-time thing. I've seen him after and he rocked it. My nominations were based on consistancy and repetition.
