hmm wait a sec how could u make ur own mash up and then that still follow the rule of it being available to everyone?

I think all mash up's/remixs should b fair personally

You could take two songs from the list and mash them.

I think this contest is more about technical skill and creativity, instead of play list selection. There have been contests like that in th e past; we are doing something different this time around. I don't think playing someone else's mash up is creative.

To those who dont want to do trance, remember it can easily be mixed with harder electro beats or tech house styles too, for an example of what I mean go watch Sander van Doorn next time he's in town. Either way we haven't all agreed to anything yet eh? Im not fussy, I'll do electro house or techy stuff if thats what is wanted but I can throw trance with it too.

Playlist Draft #1:

Derilium - Silence
Caf Del Mar - Energy 52
Lost Tribe - Gamemaster
The Thrill seekers - Synasthaesia
Mario Picotto - Back to Cali
Art of Trance - Madagascar
Golden scan - Sunrise
Insigma - Open our eyes
Perpetual Dreamer, Armin Van Buuren - The Sound of Goodbye
Solar Stone - Seven Cities/Solarcoaster

I coasted through Beatport's classics and these are the best ones I found. Most of these tracks have several remixes so it'll allow DJs some freedom and creativity in terms of track selection. Chances are that people already have at least a few of the tracks listed, if not all of them. So it'll save some time and money.

All tracks available at beatport.com.

I hope vinyl DJs can get in on this too.

What do you think Import?

Posted by lawrenceq on Mar-25-2007 19:47:

hoooollly some of those babies go back a good ten years! cafe del mar what a classic! I know i have this one cd in my collection i bought in 99 that has like half of those tunes on it haha

Someone should start making some polls on these details. Poll the genre, poll the BPM range, poll the number of tracks, and finally, make a giant poll with every suggested track, with the top 10 becoming the choices. Get to work, person-besides-me!

wait... are we allowing remixes of tracks, or just the exact tracks specified?

my vote goes for exact tracks on the list...

+1

...so we all have a level playing field as far as tracks are concerned. Some of us don't have the time to spend searching for (& buying) some obscure remixes for this, after all its only a fun exercise to see what we all come up with when given the same tracks

But that's exactly the fun of the competition - if everyone uses the same mixes it's going to be a pretty damn dull competition as there's not really much room for creativity.

I agree that it would give a more level playing field for the competition if we was to use the exact same tracks but yes, overall it would become quite tiresome after hearing the first 5 mixes.

So I'm all for using remixes.

Oh, put me down for techno please

this competition isn't really about finding the most obscure mixes. it's about seeing what people will do with the same tracks. i put out th e criteria a few pages back. it's really about technical skill and creativity. if you can do something creative with a really obscure mix then you'll get some good points for it, but it won't be because you have a mix nobody else has.

one of the main reasons for letting any mixes/remixes is so that people don't have to go out and buy as many new tracks.

sorry for the lack of caps.

I'm kinda undecided on remixes...

Perhaps remixes that everyone has access to (ie Beatport) and the judges can mandate only what remixes can be used?

Posted by lawrenceq on Mar-26-2007 18:31:

Quick note on remixes and tunes, territory restrictions may fuck a lot of people over. I couldnt get some of SVD's tunes the other day because of it... and they wonder why we download illegally!

I think there's a way around the territory restrictions.

How many other mixes are outside of what port is offering?

Posted by lawrenceq on Mar-26-2007 20:27:

Cheers Beatflux, had a good read. I got the following results from it: make friends with people fromt he netherlands and have them buy it for you and send songs through from ones the labels wont let us buy, or change regions/IP addy's...

Posted by Beatflux on Mar-26-2007 22:41:

I tried one of those proxies to download "Without You Near" and it was too slow to do anything. I guess you could get a friend to DL a song for you, but that's a pain.

You'd be surprised how many bootlegs and unreleased stuff is out there, esp. for tunes like Cafe del Mar, Born Slippy, etc. (and some of them are worthy of releases on their own)

Yeah, you're right.

I'm thinking we should just let people mix whatever they want.

Posted by sanduad on Mar-27-2007 14:21:

I think we are trying to hard and we forget that we are here to have fun and mix some tunes.
So let's decide what categories we will make, the judges will pick 10 songs in each genre, we can use whatever remix or re-edit we want and see what hapends. After that if we will make another contest we should know what were the problems and how we can fix them.

I lost track of who our judges are? name yourselves! name us some tracks to get ahold of! and yeh i agree with not worry what mix we have of the song, because we are going for having some fun here as it is the first one we are doing!

Posted by Allied Nations on Mar-27-2007 15:32:

So, we've reached a decision?
