A DJ is notas good as a live musician in any way, which is why a great deal more 'respect and admiration' should go to guys like trentemoller, Skazi, or pendulum, who really are pushing the envelope and moving edm in a really progressive and forward thinking direction, than the glorified cd players like digweed, buuren, tiesto etc. To be fair, my statements have been rather crude and poorly structured, and I guess I owe a quarter of an apology. To answer the question of how is a dj supposed to make a party better...? The answer is in a carl cox or halliwell or zabiela (and don't shit on me because digweed supports zabiela, I know this, it doesnt make him the same dj) set, the way i see it, these guys do not take themselves too seriously and the energy they exude has a very tangible and positive effect on the feeling and motion of the crowd. I'd be happy to share more of my unqualified opinions but I can only take being called a moron and a douchebag so many times.

bottom line is. they all play other people's songs. every DJ has his/her own style. Some exude energy...excitment...and crazy booth antics. Some just stand there drink there beer, and concentrate on what they are doing. Both types are doing the same thing- entertaining their audience.

Everyone has their own style.

You don't like John Digweed's style. It is not accepted by all.

Moral of the story. Stick to what you enjoy most and then your parties will be memorable.

And try to refrain from throwing objects at the entertainer.... leave the party if you don't like it.

I'm done.

Ryster seems to be enjoying it

Well he wasn't the greatest at Kool Haus a couple of weeks ago but he was sick in 2004 at Lotus. That was an awesome set. My problem is that sometimes yes, he plays too slow. Not that the individual tracks aren't good but just played at a wrong time. I enjoy GU: Hong Kong and GU Los Angeles is a crazy dark prog house comp that I still listen to. Transitions 1 and 2 sucked, but 3 was good (even though midway it gets tiring a bit).

Some of his live sets are incredible. The one from Beirut 2004 was really well done. I respect Digweed a lot, he's one of the early DJs that I got into the "scene" with but I think he's hit or miss.

I would say he's been the same as always, good.

I agree with you. That's why I prefer Sasha to Digweed. Some of his sets I find real slow. But then more often than not, about half way through they just get bonkers! The slow stuff is not my thing, but sometimes it makes that 45 minute mark even better.

Yeah it's up there for me too...I still remember how he starts off Dousk- Mute, and then there's those crazy dark prog ethreal tracks and those other ones from Antoine Clamarn (My Heartbeat and The Real Orgasm). And oh yeah! "Filth" was on that too! He played that really early in the year before it blew up over the summer after the WMC.

Now THAT was an amazing set! I diedn't like the Kool Haus...wtf is this guy doing playing "Grind House" for like 4 mins and then mixing out, just before the spooky effects take over?!

anyone have a link for this so i can download and hear what this set is all about??

Posted by Nobbie Q on Apr-24-2008 21:08:

he's probbably referring to the KH set that Digweed did 2 weeks ago...I don' think there is a bootleg Kool Haus for any year unless someone knows more.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Apr-24-2008 21:15:

I think he means the Beirut set from '04.

Posted by Nobbie Q on Apr-24-2008 21:32:

Just SoulSeek it, it's a like a full 4 hour set from Lebanon, Beirut from February '04 I believe.

1st tune: Murph - Electric House (Reticent's 2.5yr deep mix)

Just sets the mood for an epic set
