alright goddamn it, let's do this.

theorizing/philosophizing about life is nothing new. it's a human instinct. we dream, we look towards the future, we question. one of the main reasons religion is even in existance right now is because it distracts the human minds from the inevitable - you're gonna die and rot in the ground.

it's easy to think this way without much accomplishment in a young life. in the future. looking at your children, your children's children, the business you help set up and run for generations on, that movie you were in that got an award, teaching that one student that went on to harvard, etc. we can't live forever, but we have the power to leave a mark on this world through our life's choices and actions. it's not so much striving, but accomplishing, that matters. without accomplishment we are nothing.

it's not money, it's what money brings. i think all of us want to live life comfortably. for example i don't give a fuck if i'm rich or not, but i do have lavish tastes and lead an expensive lifestyle, and definitely like to dress well and drive something decent. yes it's materialistic, but i don't value myself by my possessions or think that it makes me a better human being. i don't buy by brand but by the look and the comfort (feel... better cotton/material/etc.) of the things that i buy. i would rather have leather in my car, i would rather wear mavi jeans (cuz damn they'z soft!), i would rather sleep on a 1200 thread-count bedsheet, unfortunately these things don't come cheap.

if things were so simple life would be a breathe. however, we leave legacies, heritages, and traditions. we continue our cultural/religious beliefs and leave them with our children and followers... hell even friends and co-workers. we are social beings, absorbing and striving for interaction with others. taking advantage of such a wonderful skill as communication and passing on your thoughts/feelings/emotions to others is one of the greatest gifts anyone could ask for. a fucking tiger doesn't have it as good as we do... nor a shark... a fucking shark!

you might, you MIGHT as well... anyway - absolutely you don't want to die with regrets. but those who don't have any regrets aren't fucking human in the first place. everyone makes bad choices and reflects upon those of past. it's inevitable that we question ourselves because i think every human being is his/her own harshest critic. as mentioned before - success is judged by accomplishments. ACCOMPLISHMENTS. it's not the amount of money you make, or the number of children you have, or the quantity of asses you put your dick in (23, w00t it's jordanrific) but it is the QUALITY of the accomplishments you've presented to this world and the legacy/i forget what other word i used/heritage that you leave behind.

i can't speak for others. but i've always pursued my goal. i've managed to balance three careers so far and i know i can be successful in each one of them. my problem is not doing what i want to do, or pursuing my goals, or any of that shit. my problems is that i have too many passions in my life and succeed in every one of them. sooner or later it's going to be too much to handle and i will have to pick/decide which one i want to focus on... that will be the darkest day of my life because i will end up losing something i love in order to reach my potential in another. however i don't mind, and i'm already pretty sure of what my choice will be. but it will be like 1/3 of my life TORN from me. i've loved and lost women, pets, family members (granted all in different ways... you fucking sickos i know you're gonna focus on this) but yes as they've come and gone i've remained pretty much unphazed. i know, i fucking KNOW, when that moment comes when i have to decide between passions, i will become a completely different person... and maybe finally mature
good luck and good night... you bitches.

i could relate to the computer scene made it that much funnier. this fall i was trying scan something with one of the new imacs that the school just got. i'm very tech savvy and the teacher, a student and i couldn't figure out how to turn on the computer. i had to go home and ask on the apple forum where it was.

i did. but mac has a history of doing things for aesthetic purposes. the power button is white (the same as the case) so you can't see it, its located in the lower left corner on the back of the monitor, and its flat, not sticking out so you can't feel it with your fingers.

I have this badass boxy monitor instead of a Mac related one (I'm too poor to upgrade at the moment) but it's 15" and does the job well and has a big button at the front. When you press it, it switches on the tower (G5) as well the screen. Pretty handy.

But I dunno...seems to me that things like art and music originated as imitations of natural vibrations or images, so the creation is not necessarily our own, in the first place...but perhaps the same can be said about God?
Hell if I know, and no amount of deductive reasoning will bring us closer to an answer to which we have no definite clue as to the actual parameters of.

Base as it sounds, i really wish more people thought this way. It's too much to ask of people that they be totally altruistic and non-materialistic all of the time - in fact, it's downright ridiculous. But many people love money just for the sake of money, not for the sake of the nice things you can attain through having money - sad truth of the world. :/
edit: wasn't trying to correct you or anything, was just a thought.

I think that hardly anybody loves having money just to have money; or at least, very few people admit to doing so. But many people want lots and lots of stuff, and this ends up costing lots and lots of money. The end result, lots of people running themselves ragged to earn as much as they possibly can, is the same, whether the cause is really "love of money" or "love of the heaps of stuff money can buy."

I'd like to think that. It makes a lot more sense. But people are often foolish and many do not know what it is that they love in life... I see what you are saying, that, in many ways, love of possessions and love of money, itself, are quite similar, but I don't trust people to be responsible enough with their desires to label their intentions as 'good' when it comes to ascertaining a hefty bank account.
It seems a popular bit of homogenized Xtian values that 'money is the root of all evil'...but really, I think that is is people who do and think selfish, greedy things. Not sure I'd go so far as to say that 'most' people are greedy in this way, but in my experience, there appears to be a saddening number of people I've known who want to have money for money's sake...not 'security' or to buy nice things or to afford a competitive lifestyle, but to own simply for the sake of owning - much in the way that people value things like jewelery or other ceaselessly worthless items. Just to have.

If the law is the only thing that prevents you from raping women, I think that you should probably reassess the necessity of your presence within society.

yes, all the time.
and ever wonder how much life would SUCK if you didn't work hard and try hard to get more money?
to LIVE...and EAT...and have SHELTER lol
that's why people work so hard and strive so hard. TO LIVE!

That's probably the worst way to think, life isn't about money. Our egos create standards that we all have. Society feeds you the images of being rich, and successful.. But you do have the choice to achieve that lifestyle, or just go with the flow of things.

personally, i do want to pursue the notion of being able to do what i want at the exact and any time i want to. however, simply put i dont have enough money to do what i want, and wont for a while. so one has to pursue the goal and hope that he doesnt get obliterated in the process.
at the end of all things, hey at least you tried. just make sure you do what you really want to be doing, but be smart about it. ie. dont get yourself killed or put yourself in a position that attracts danger so you can live longer to achieve what you want. thats all you can do, really.

1. Why? it's not bad to be practical about things. You're right, life isn't about money, but i never said it WAS. It's about living in the now (enjoying the simple things) and planning for the future.
2. Ok.......but our need for living AT LEAST a 'comfortable' lifestyle is found by working hard. You have to in order to get some cash to pay for whatever it is you deem necessary in your life
and finally,
3. society society society...
what about a person who actually WANTS to have a good amount of cash, not only for themselves but to support a family and so on.
You gotta start thinking about all that crap at some point! Otherwise, we'd all be starving poets on the street corner living the "going with the flow", care-free lifestyle that seems to have other things tied along with it....like....HUNGER lol

Going with the flow means taking one thing at a time. I find all too often that people have very high standards and expect to become fairly successful, and work their fingers too the bone in order to do so. And we wonder why there are so many people on anti-depressants. Going with the flow means not having your eyes set on a long-term goal, because that can lead to tunnel vision.
