Same here, it would be awesome to see them win it on home ice...on the other hand, the thought of Anaheim parading around the ice with the Cup at Scotiabank Place would be a sight

That'd just cement the shame on latest Canadian team to choke in the finals

Posted by smuncky on May-31-2007 15:42:

why is everyone saying that the sens are done for? they still have 2 games to play at home. they can bounce back to tie the series. the only way i think theyll lose for sure is if they drop one of their home games. then its a done deal.

it seems like you sens fans give up to easily.

Posted by DigDeep on May-31-2007 15:45:

I'm batting two for two on predictions... here's another.

Ottawa is going to come out SMOKING in game 3. Giguere will play well, but it wont be enough.

Sens will win 3 - 1.

Home Ice will play a huge factor in this Stanley Cup.

i dont think calgary and edmonton choked at all. they both took it game 7. same with the canucks in 93-94. thats not wat i call a choke.

Posted by TCB on May-31-2007 15:50:

remember all it takes is for ottawa to win both games at home and the series is on! so i wouldnt write them off unless they lose the next game.

It's a choke when you can't bring home the bacon

But you're right. Canadian teams are generally considered underdogs (well, maybe except this year) so Calgary and Edmonton did well to get that far.

i would.....

the home ice advantage in ottawa isnt even close to as good as it is in montreal or toronto where the cities actually give a hsit about their hockey teams.... ottawa fans only like them when they are winning.... they are a bunch of pussies

reason? emery cant stop giving up the rebounds.... he is horrible for it. that and the ducks are a fast and big team...

Emery had wicked rebound control last night, and that was probably the reason why game #2 ended with Anaheim scoring only 1 goal.

Ottawa isn't going to win unless they stop doing so many give aways and also decide to start skating. Most of the Sens haven't been skating hard this series at all. Even when they're on the offensive, they're out of position half the time because not everyone is skating hard and half the line is lagging behind, especially in the neutral zone and after dumping it in to Anaheims end.

ottawa not used to travelling like anaheim in the playoffs plus they have to mix up their lines to get something going. no idea if the two days will help but i believe ottawa will only win one of their home games.

highest paid guys (Alfie, Heatley, Spezza, Redden and lol, Gerber) haven't contributed, while Emery, Volchenkov, Phillips and Fisher have thrived under these tough conditions.

But then again, McDonald and Selanne, even Pronger haven't contributed offensively either. When these players start to get on the scoreboard, we could see an even more interesting series. For now, the Sens will have to use the energy from home ice to get some momentum for this series and put the pressure back on Anaheim.

The pressure was on the Sens, because they are Canadian based and heavily favoured. And oh yeah, Elgin Street bars suck and didn't deserve the business they were getting

You think pressure was on the Sens because they are a Canadian team? How exactly? Are you implying that Canadian teams are expected to win the Stanley Cup? I'm confused.

And I know some who picked Ottawa in this series, but how do you figure they were heavily favoured, or even a favourite to win period? Last I checked, Anaheim ranked higher in their conference, earned home ice - and were the more consistant of the two in the regular season.

you haven't been watching TSN, Sportsnet or reading the papers I guess

Ottawa has dominated in the playoffs and have been picked by most to win the Cup. As for the regular season, you can pretty much throw that out the window come playoff time (case in point, Atlanta ranked higher that several teams but had a lax regular season sched and took advantage of the outdated NHL seeding system. I can explain to you how that system works if needed).

As for the Canadian standpoint, go to any Canadian city and you'll see how much players are reminded that they are playing in Canada, especially come playoff time. Now contrast this to sunny Southern California. Here, it's on storefront windows, the media, city hall, restaurants, taxis, everywhere. These players are reminded constantly.

I was at our EDM club here in Ottawa and some e-tard decked in Sens gear head-to-toe was speaker dancing to tech house

Yes, I do watch TSN, Sportsnet, The Score, I listen to The Fan 590, yada yada.

This is Canadian media, so there will obviously be a sense of national pride on the line and favortism will exist when one of 'our' teams are in the cup. Sure, hottest team in the playoffs - and they were riding a good streak into the Stanley Cup.

BUT.....

This Anaheim team has the best combination of defense and goal tending (both regular season, and the playoffs). I can see why some people would pick Ottawa to win it all, based on how they played in the first three rounds - but a 'heavy favourite'? Far from it bro.....

I won't argue about Anaheim's attributes.. in fact I even picked them for the Finals in my hockey pool BEFORE the playoffs (vs Buffalo) and I've already won the $100

All I am saying is that a large majority of prognosticators picked Ottawa over Anaheim before this series started, even a brachiating, turd-smelling primate

Can anybody SERIOUSLY say they enjoy this hockey? 3-2 and 1-0 scores in the Stanley Cup Final? Holy fuck, it's painful to watch.

All the NHL is now is just one big neutral zone TRAP. The hooking is back stronger than ever, as is the clutching and grabbing. It's terrible, but we stupid Canadians just keep watching it to get our fix.

If Ottawa go on to lose this Final, that will be 4 straight Canadian teams to lose the last round since Montreal won it in 93. vancouver, calgary, edmonton and probaby Ottawa. The Canadian curse?

i don't read much of the canadian press for hockey, but anaheim has been heavily favored to win the cup from day one. imo it's theirs to lose and i can't think of who thought ottawa would overcome anaheim...hmmmmmm canadian propaganda

are you kidding me? i wouldn't exactly call myself ignorant, i know what i read and i have an opinion. have you forgotten that few picked ottawa to even make it to the final? i'm not disrespecting the team, i think they've played great up to this point

Posted by Spin Laden on Jun-01-2007 03:29:

Anaheim and Buffalo were consensus picks BEFORE the playoffs, and the Sens have been the consensus pick when this round started.

Translated in Americanese ... just for you:

So glad you felt the need to clarify to this stupid little American girl ...I am three weeks away from a masters in sports business, work for a professional team plus hockey happens to be my favorite sport so I would hope I have more than a simple understanding of things.

I've watched part of every single series of this year's playoffs and although Ottawa played great I still don't think they'll win the cup. I'll be the first to admit Anaheim played some crappy hockey on their way to the finals and because of that some didn't think they would perform well but I think they have too much talent on that team to lose. Also have you forgotten that they have found ways to win and at the end of the day that matters more than anything else. I hope Ottawa wins a game at home to spice things up and so that Anaheim can win at home.
