Sean Tyas Interview, with Dj Blurr.
Sometimes, im fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time to catch a few minutes to talk to extrodinary people in the world.
What is really unique about Sean is his spirit for Trance. I recognize all this man has done already, and value his time as well has his friendship. Its far and few that you will find someone dedicated to Trance like Sean. Which is why I love opening up for this man. I can litterally take it to 137 bpm if I want, because I know his followup will be stronger than mine, and most of his tracks are upwards of 140. I also have gained major recognition for opening up for him durning our last go together.
I took some time this morning to ask him a few questions, that I thought I would share with all of you. Being a Dj, one of the most important aspects is fanbase.
Also, chatting with him during his last show, and his excitement for our upcoming one this weekend, you'll be happy that Sean's favorite club is 1015 Folsom. He loves everything about it from the lighting, the sound, the crowd, feel and appeal of the club. Its gonna be an awsome night everyone.
He asked me to let you all know too, that every 50th person who arrives, will receive limited copies of his promo. There will be more on this, and this may change. But some of you will be lucky enough to walk home with a little bit of this evening in your pocket.
I also sent him the flyer this morning, and he has posted it on his website.
You may also see a colaboration between me and Sean in the near future. I have asked him to rework a few tracks for me, hopefully some of my productions will make it to him like Kyo and Gilla. Again I cannot wait till you all hear Ultima!!!!!
Those of you who want your Trance fixx, this is your night. Come experience Dirtyhertz, Sean and me. We all are gonna rock this night solid.
An Interview with Sean Tyas
Interview conducted by: David Lewis (A.K.A. Dj Blurr)
Dj Blurr (8:58:13 AM): So I wanted to ask you some questions, interview time bro!
Dj Blurr (8:58:19 AM): You got some time?
Dj Blurr (8:58:33 AM): I know you did one recently for Trance.nu..
Sean Tyas(8:58:51 AM): No problemo with any interview!
Dj Blurr : You have been out to 1015 Folsom in San Francisco, what do you love about the club?
Sean Tyas : I picked 1015 specifically because a) being from America, it was not even a question that I wanted to record my first real mix cd there, and b) San Francisco clubbers were easily the most enthused I have ever met. Playing for 1015 last time was an absolute pleasure. The lighting is almost choreographed it was that good, and the sound system was right on par with that... Just awesome.
Dj Blurr : Who is your favorite producer at the moment? and what is your track of tracks to play currently?
Sean Tyas : My favorite producer is probably Giuseppe Ottaviani. I have always loved the Nu Nrg, but now Giuseppe solo is really coming into his own, and his sound is maturing as well. I like his tunes because they take quite a few listens and you end up hearing little things that he as done... nice touches. Love that. And that being said, His remix of Stoneface & Terminal's Supernature is second to none. I actually get really stoked when I put it on.
Dj Blurr : You have produced alot of tracks of the last year or so, which is your favorite out of all of your productions, and which track has gotten the most play?
Sean Tyas : Lift had the most play by a longshot but my favorite production was actually the remix of Bubblefish - Stars of Ibiza I did for Sirup Recordings. The original didn't have a melody per se, it had more of a hook. But I added a melody that, well, to this day, I wish i kept that for an original.
Dj Blurr : What do you find different about djing on the westcoast rather the eastcoast? You mentioned to me that 1015 is probably your favorite club. correct?
Sean Tyas : Easily my favorite. Hmmm. I think the
overall exposure of the west coast to trance music has been much better than the east. Of course there are exceptions like the east coast rave scene in the late 90s, but that has dwindled to near nothing now due to new laws. The California scene seems to have really nurtured trance a bit more.
Dj Blurr : What is Recover? thats your other label right?
Sean Tyas : Recover is the mother label to Discover. You can gather more info here. http://www.cloud9music.nl
Dj Blurr : How do you feel about vinyl vs internet downloading? Do you still use vinyl?
Sean Tyas : internet downloading can't be stopped so we all just need to get used to it. I HATED it the first couple times I saw it happening, but what can anyone do really. It's a double edged sword, because a TON of people that are very hesitant to spend money on music still get to hear your music and see what you do, so thats a real benefit to that for producers looking to get their names out.
Dj Blurr : 1015 loves you, and so do your fans. Do you have anything you would like to say to them right now?
Sean Tyas : Sure! Can't wait to see you all again in 2 weeks. I'd like to spend some more time chatting with you all so make sure you come and introduce yourselves! And thank you SO MUCH for the support and even moreso for the energy you all threw down last November!
Dj Blurr : What are some of the tools you use for producing your tracks?
Sean Tyas : I think if anyone heard what I said to this question during the ASOT 300 event, they will probably be giggling with how passionately I basically yelled out the answer, but yea the key to me working is really Logic on the Mac. Logic because it just lets me get elements in very fast, as well as adding necessary fx and routing options, and then the Mac, the quad Xeon one, that lets me basically run as many software synths in plugins I want without even going over a 50% load on the machine. I just got an Access Virus TI synth as well, and it's my first hardware bit in years. I already love it but really need to spend more time with it. Software-wise I'm and addict of Logic's proprietary synths ES1 and ES2, as well as its built-in sampler the EXS24 (though this one is showing its age by now and is begging for an update).
Dj Blurr : Do you have any advice for any young producers and djs out there in the world?
Sean Tyas : Producers: Make what you want. Develop your mixing skills. That is so important. Don't let others tell you what and what not to make. DJs: To get out there, being a producer really helps.. So if you have the time, learn to produce, OR learn to be a beast turntablist. Pick one, because one or the other is going to occupy ALL of your time.
Dj Blurr : Are you collaborating with anyone you have admired in your journey to become a Dj?
Sean Tyas : Not at the moment but who knows for 2008?
Dj Blurr : What do you love most about Djing?
Sean Tyas : Interaction. You get to see first hand the response that everything you do in the studio has.
Dj Blurr : What other labels other than discover do you produce for?
Sean Tyas : Armada under the pseudonym Logistic.
Dj Blurr : How do you feel about Dj Blurr, this is the second time he has opened for you, are you excited he is opening for you again?
Sean Tyas : I'm thrilled. He gave such a great volley of
a set last time, it ramped up in energy perfectly right before I had to play, and the stage was set for literally anything I wanted to play.
Dj Blurr : Some of us gather on a forum called Tranceaddicts.com, and we usually put together a dinner with the headliner artist coming out. Would you like to attend the dinner?
Sean Tyas : What kind of question is that? OF COURSE. I'd be honored
Dj Blurr : Cool! I'll definitely let the others know.
Sean Tyas : Too Cool!
Dj Blurr : Thanks again for taking the time to sit down with me today Sean. Ill post this in the forum on Tranceaddict.com, so your fans can hear you!

Ya I wanted to see how I did.
Hey if you opened for Armin, wouldnt you like to know how you did?
So I thought of myself in a third person.
Hehe. actually some of these were questions I had others think up, and a combination of ones I wanted to ask him.
You may have thought it was an innocent question, but all it rubs off as to anyone as your full of yourself.
I don't say that to try to be mean or rude, I say that because it's how about 20 people who have AIMed me going "WTF kind of question is that" see it.
When you are more in the public eye you really have to take a step back and thing of how people will see things....because first instinct is going to try look at it from an unpleasing angle.
You don't want to turn into MikeyMike (Marbel or whoever it is)....lol.
This has been DaveT's weekly public service announcement live from the Santa Monica Pier. Working down here this week for E3. Wasn't even gonna post on TA at all this week, but I' m an ADDICT.
Sorry to be the bitch and say what everyone wants to say. Everyone loves you though, so don't take it as any type of hate!
haha. i was actually waiting for you to say something Dave.
Everyone knows im the least bit full of myself. maybe my stomach, sorry folks but I couldnt resist.
And if you relate me to MikeyMike again Dave, I will beat you with a plastic bat.
Bring me back a poster if you can Dave! I want that new MGS Poster!
No I dont take anything as hate. hate sucks.
