Edit: Fucking Jake.

Edit 2: Wotyzoid, it's simple - you make yourself an easy target. Stop being a dickhead, and the rest of us will stop pointing out how you're a dickhead.

Don't think i've ever heard of the expression four-to-floor to describe a 4/4 with a constant bass beat...but whatever...

Uhh, that's exactly what it means. Straight kick = Four-to-the-Floor.

That's probably because you're 12.

i have not heared minimal in a big superclub. only smaller clubs that hold about 400 people. in these little venues it is amazing how minimal sounds when it is thrown through a 10,000 watt sound system. the minimal mix leaves room for proper big kicks and bass - something that crammed trance and hardcore lose out on due to filling the mix to much.

Posted by isoterra on Oct-09-2007 07:29:

i'd say '4/4 kick' is perfectly acceptable as an informal shorthand term

especially when talking within a genre where time signatures rarely stray away from 4/4

Posted by bryanflint on Oct-11-2007 06:35:

I don't listen to much minimal, my interests are more along the lines of goa, darkpsy, progressive breaks, liquid funk... weird shit to many that seems to sound beautiful to me for some reason...

We could be talking about minimal or we could be talking about any genre... anything at all for that matter, music or not. This thread I think stopped being about the topic at hand however, somewhere around page 1.

This thread became a medium for people to whip out their proverbial cocks and try to show each other up. I think this is sad.

I used to be just the same way, trying to prove to people on forums that I'm enlightned when it comes to the subject being discussed. Why? Beats the hell out of me. Something about it made me feel good, I don't know.

My point is, it's absolutely pointless... and it's absolutely pointless to counter it with more bullshit. I'm not attacking anyone in particular, I'm pointing out that almost everyone who's participated in this thread up to this point is perpetuating one of the saddest things about music today...

Whether it's pop music or rock or electronic or whatever... it's music guys. We all have our own tastes, sure, but we all have a common love for music. Forget this bullshit bickering about how long we've listened to a genre, or how much we know about it... we can all have our opinions but the minute someone tries to tell someone THEIR tastes are inferior... congratulations, you've descended to the level of a school child fighting over which superhero could 'obviously' kick the others' asses.

I love electronic music, I love the community, and that's why it hurts to see 'my people' divided over some of the stupidest shit I've heard. Grow up, have a group hug, whatever... just stop.

Sorry for my rant,

Flint

Are you serious ? You don't know how an opinion can be wrong.

I believe that lamas have feathers and 6 arms. I truely believe it. How can I be wrong ?

trance is very uplifting, house is more cheerful, chillout/deep house you listen to at lounges.

i wasnt to sure if there were space for minimal in the club.

You obviously don't know much about the genre...since you admit discovering it pretty recently.

Go to a minimal night at your local club, and see for yourself. It only takes one time before you get hooked (from what I heard from friends, personnally, I love minimal at home as well)

Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano and friends always manage to gather thousands of people at shows and festivals....

thank you for sharing...

I heard electronic music since more than 10 years now, and minimal is the style that bore me the most. In my opinion the word minimal is the good name for this style of music. I would like to know how many minutes a producer of minimal take to make a title. 10 minutes ?

It is an interesting statement, but mostly stupid and ignorant.

This forum has adressed the "minimal" question many times, and perhaps it would be wiser for you to browse around the internet before coming here and embarassing you like you just did.

If that isn't evidence enough that the geeks need to come back, then I don't know what is.

This is officially the first intelligent and educated post in this thread. Kudos, although I dont completely agree, you are the one who seems to understand the most what minimal is all about

I can understand that techno and minimal purists are mad that the genre is soo hyped up and that tech-house-with-some-minimal-elements are being qualified as minimal tracks.

However I still think the 'minimal' scene is healthy. Parties remain great, crowd is very enthusiastic (as you can see on the vids) and enough new quality releases. Personally I think DJ's like James Holden are rocking with a nice blend of minimal, 'minimal', neo-trance, acid and (real) electro.

On the downside, when you are at a minimal party you see a lot of people with the same clothes, drug-use (cocaine, Ketamine anyone?) hairstyle (richie should have copyrighted his own cut) and dance-shuffle. Maybe not the best direction minimal is going but this happenes to every musicgenre (non-edm included.)

I think people bitching about Minimal and 'Minimal' should stop, just hop on the next elite-bandwagon: Dubstep, Deephouse or Nu-rave.

Second best post

As far as I'm concerned, the geeks and nutters need to be brought back to techno asap. Maybe then things would start to get interesting again.

Best post of the thread.

Bring on the nerds, weirdos, and crazy experimentalists.
