Those of you that said Sasha's essential mix sucked... Wow.

I don't know what the fuck you all expect from a DJ, even with our so called "refined tastes". I've learned to keep a more open mind these days and I'm enjoying the music more than ever.

Just cause you post on Trance Addict doesn't mean you're god's gift to music critics, and maybe everyone should just take a 5 minute timeout in the corner and come back a little less uptight about the whole thing.

The glorification then the inevitable contempt for DJs on here is really ridiculous, staying a die hard fan forever isn't what I'd see anyone be either, it's more like taking a step back and laughing at how seriously you took the whole thing then starting to enjoy it again.

Whats wrong with not liking a set?

Should I always post a set I enjoyed better at the same time to balance things out for you?

Also, part of the reason why I didnt like it was because the sound quality of the recording and broadcast is so fucking horrible. It makes it difficult to hear those intricacies that make Sasha's ableton mixing so interesting at times.

Nor does it make you one either. Just because you like something doesn't mean everyone else has to.

You obviously missed the memo that went around.

In summary, yes, it does, and I am.

It feels that way on here sometimes

I know Sasha has refined tastes and those tastes are leading him somewhere different right now, he's on his own journey. Problem is that when I'm in a club, I want to dance and his music doesn't make me want to do that anymore.

Seriously. Go. Now.

Spooky too please. Any and all reasons will be met with an open mind - they both just bored the piss out of me this weekend.

Don't believe the hype folks.

Also, is this a drunk thread?

Maybe, folks. Maybe.

TAs who had an awesome time this weekend: like 15
TAs who had a not awesome time this weekend: 1.5 (I think myra liked it and is covering for you)

Sasha Essential Mix Broadcasted on Saturday 25th November, 1995

1.Phoenix - "Rise Up" (Solid Silver)
2.Alcatraz - "Giv Me Your Love" (Yoshitoshi)
3.Angel Moraes - "Heaven Knows" (EBU)
4.Simply Red - "Remembering The First Time" (East West)
5.Sasha & BT - "Oat" (acetate)
6.Castle Trancelot - "Resonance" (acetate)
7.Jayn - "untitled" (VC)

It's depressing listening to this set, and then listening to any liveset he's done over the past two years and realizing how boring he's really become

Little bit of a problem right there.

Its simply that some people know and understand when he is capable of better and when he is in top form.

Oh I did? How's that?

It seems to me like you're saying that some people here are taking themselves and their dedication to the scene (and certain DJs) too seriously, and that they need to relax a bit. This whole social diagnosis was extrapolated from the fact that a few people didn't particularly enjoy Sasha's EM.

So, I ask ... who are you to judge people, their tastes, and their dedication to / interest in a DJ? What makes your criticism of music more valid than theirs?

You missed the irony of his post, which was that, he in fact, had missed the point.

Honestly, I'm tired of seeing you reminisce about the past in every thread you post relating to music. Are you a DJ? What do you spin? I agree, those tunes are fucking epic, and they will always be loved, but stuff like that is hardly being produced now. What do you want a DJ who rocked the 90's to do? Spin those tracks in every fucking gig? The music hasn't got shittier, you're just stuck in the past. Move the fuck on.

The essential mix comment in my post had little else to do with the rest of what I wrote.

I do think people take the whole thing too seriously, yes it is dedication and that's really cool that people on here are that dedicated but my point was that over-dedication and this ridiculously high standard we expect from certain DJs kind of stacks the odds in favor of us not enjoying ourselves when we go out to booze out to their muzak.

If you don't like Sasha anymore, you don't like Sasha anymore. What I said in my other post was related to my experience in the whole thing and I'm sure some other people could relate, not everyone obviously. If RJT/Clovis etc have a higher expectation of Sasha than I do, so be it, but really only a few months ago I was in the same boat as them and wasn't digging his shit as much as I used to. Personally, I decided to just shrug it off and enjoy it for what it is (to me) and I am finding that I don't need Sasha to be as ground-breaking and epic as he used to be to really enjoy his sets.

Also I stand by what I said, I think a lot of TAs ARE over-critical and spend too much time analyzing the shit out of the music.

I'm just as guilty as anyone else really, I pick apart songs and sets and find little flaws in them, as well as just plain not liking most big name DJs because of the "crap" they play.

Also, Clovis, there is nothing wrong with not liking a set, I just thought it was quite good and from the sounds of it it must have been a hell of a party that night at Amnesia.

"This whole social diagnosis was extrapolated from the fact that a few people didn't particularly enjoy Sasha's EM."

A) No it wasn't.
B)"Extrapolated" probably gets quite a few points in "Scrabble" but come on, don't be a show off I can use big words too, Phonics werks 4 m3.

I've tried forcing myself to like what he's spinning the past couple years, but I simply can't. I'm so critical of him because he's my favorite fucking DJ in the world, and it pains me to see how shit he's become.

I was going to make an asshole remark about the whole 'showing off' thing but I'll just let it go.

The point is not that people have expectations of Sasha that are too high. It's just that many of his sets lately have been piss boring with little to no direction. His performance in Chicago recently left me feeling the same as all the others posting in this thread. I guess I find it difficult to 'enjoy something for what it is', if 'it' is crap.

I am, however, a huge fan of that Essential Mix.

Posted by DiegoParra32 on Nov-02-2007 20:42:

do you have a link to that 95 essential mix. phoenix-rise up is a massive track. and the reason for my comment is that the expectations of a dj a lot of you guys have is unrealistic. It's like athletes, do not expect their best if they are not in their prime of their career.
