Yup.

Assumption correct.

Kinda tough to do it this Friday w/out pissin them off by doing a B&E & then forcing them to make poutine in an unfinished restaurant.

On the other hand.....

Best Poutine is chicken poutine IMO. Cote St. Luc BBQ and Chalet BBQ have really good ones.

If you're up for it all be your partner in crime.
Anything for a good poutine.

I agree the key is the gravy. I have access to fresh curds twice a week from a cheese distributor in Markham. So when I make it at home, I like to use St-Hubert BBQ gravy you can buy at Metro and other grocery stores, rather than the gross 'poutine' gravy in a can.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Nov-10-2008 00:45:

Swiss Chalet sauce also works well when I make poutine at home. I usually add bacon and banana peppers to mine.

That's 3... all we need now are a couple of passive vegans that'll pass on this feast to watch the door whilst we get down to some serious life shortening feeding.

There is a vegetarian poutine with vegetable gravy... vegan on the other hand... i dunno... tofu curds... ew.. you can only bastardize a poutine so much.

POUTINE REVIEW

Lakeview Restaurant

I just had the best GOURMET Poutine I ever had in Toronto.

Cameraphone, sorry it does not give it justice.

The new owners of the former Lakeview Lunch, now called the Lakewview Restaurant have got it right. They truly serve a poutine that is a real definition of the word poutine. Never have I ever had such a tasty mash-up.

Both spud and sweet potato fries carry the heart of this dish, which was completely new for me. Generous toppings of peameal bacon, sauteed mushrooms, feta and this nice galicy oniony crispy bits were able to cover every bite. My curds weren't squeeky which have kept me from giving it a perfect score for a GOURMET poutine. I haven't tried their regular poutine though.

Well I now know what I'm doing next time I'm around Dundas & Ossington.

Posted by smuncky on Dec-28-2008 01:23:

what about the prices, AJ?

Posted by Endlesswave on Dec-28-2008 01:45:

Let's do another poutine run. I had some at Chehoski's on Queen west last night and it rocked. I want more.

Posted by The Ear on Dec-28-2008 02:21:

intial conversations are leading to a poutining the week of th e5th to the 9th.

The next question is when & where?

I'm up for all manner of poutine just as long as it's top notch. That said, I'm inclined to either check out the Lakeview (can't really go against a Quebecer's recommendation afterall), or return to Smoke's to continue sampling my way through that glorious menu.

Lakeview is not a poutinerie. They just happen to make one great gourmet poutine. I don't know about their basic one, but since my curds weren't squeeky, I wouldn't order their regular one. I would order their "Poutine Lakeview" poutine anytime though, they're open way late even after bar hours. http://www.blogto.com/restaurants/lakeview

I'm good for another Smoke's though for their pulled pig poutine for the halibut. I'm hearing some good things about it.

Done. and for the 5th until the 9 is great if it's a Thurs/Fri, working super early all week. As for a pulled pork w poutine, mmmmmmmmmm. We should do beers after too as Fahad suggested. w00t.

I'm back bitches, and I'm ready to attack some gravy-soaked curds the size of African elephants and not relent until there's potato grease leaking out of my ears.

I seem to recall that we were leaning toward another Smoke's visit this week. I guess next week is okay too, although that's after the holidays, so a little less convenient.

Thoughts?

WHO ELSE IS EXCITED ABOUT THIS!?

ANyone else try this place?

I actually went at the beginning of December.

It was decent, but I'd say it wasn't that great. The fries and Cheese was awesome, but there wasn't off with the gravy.

Not my cup of tea.

I also tried it with pull-pork on it.
hmmmmm Pull Pork!!!

Wouldn't you like to know.

Actually, I was in Mexico, and have been entirely sober and more than a little bit silly since I got back. Either I'm very relaxed or only one of my kidneys made it back with me; I should have the answer to that after a few rounds of poutine loaded with various pig parts fried in their own body fats.

So come on guys, I'm up for any old place this week, although during a regular business week it's a lot harder for me to make it during lunchtime if it's not fairly close to the Gardiner.

Let's get it on!
