seems like a more reasonable one than to assume that she's doing her darnedest, but, shucks--she just can't get make ends meet.

I failed to read the thread, so I'm sure someone has said this already - but if she wants to act like a dog, she should be treated like one by everyone. I think it's terrific the bus driver kicked her off, and telling her they don't allow dogs on the bus was all the more class.

I think you're missing the point.

Re-read the article, but this time put your critical thinking cap on and ask yourself how that bit of information relates to the rest of the article. What other proof is there that suggests she receives assistance because of her lifestyle choice? Why did the author choose to include that information, and how is it relevant to the rest of the story? Do you think the author has any bias? What was the author's goal when writing this article? Do you always just react to information without thinking? Etc, etc.

i disagree rob, i don't think we should go treating every mentally insane person like shit. if this girl was provided the care and love from the start maybe she wouldn't be doing this fucked up shit.

personally i'm wondering where is her family and parents and why isn't she in a treatment facility to at least attempt to turn her into a productive member of the society.

1. None, but there's none to suggest otherwise, either.
2. It adds fuel to the fire of those who want to get angry about this.
3. Possibly, though I doubt it. He just wants to stir shit.
4. Shocking as many people as possible (those who didn't know that people lived like this, people who think it's appalling, and people who support it & are appalled at the incident).
5. No.

If she never goes anywhere without a leash on (which is more than a fair assumption, since she refused to do it to get on a bus), it's far more likely that she doesn't try to work, or is prevented from doing so by her slavish (lol) adherence to her lifestyle choice.

quote:

Maltby -- who lives on state benefits and got engaged in November -- said her choice of lifestyle might seem unusual but was harmless.

"I am a pet," she told the Daily Mail. "I generally act animal-like and I lead a really easy life. I don't cook or clean and I don't go anywhere without Dani. It might seem strange but it makes us both happy. It's my culture and my choice. It isn't hurting anyone."

"I don't go anywhere without Dani"

Would that include work? I guess so.
No work = state benefits, no?

I do like how you refer to her as mentally insane - I hadn't really thought of that.

Regardless, I think I feel the same way about this situation as I do the Scientologists - it's mostly harmless and an easy indication of who qualifies as a "weak link" in society.

If she were certifiably insane, I might feel a little different about mocking her - but I'm confident she might not be, and is thus lumped in with the rest of the kids who are trying ultra hard to get noticed.

i guess there is a clear boundary between mentally insane and extreme attention whore.

since we can only assume which she is, i'll probably agree with your judgement.

still wondering where the fuck her parents are and what they think of all this.

Rob, I think I'm missing something here

Pet

  1. an animal which is kept in the home as a companion and treated affectionately
  2. DISAPPROVING be sb's pet to be the person that someone in authority likes best and treats better than anyone else
  3. INFORMAL APPROVING a kind person who is easy to like
  4. UK INFORMAL an affectionate way of addressing someone, especially a woman or a child

In no moment, she claimed to be a dog (and it doesn't seem to be a meaning implied by the word "pet"). Her boyfriend just kept her on a lead, she said she was a pet girl, and was walking the same way we would walk, clothed, on her feet... the only thing "abnormal" about her was that polemic piece of jewelry. She never gave up her "humanity", so to speak (we're animals too, aren't we?).

Kay, that's a bit too exotic for me... but there's nothing idiotic about it.

I still don't have to tolerate other people's pets on the bus.

Why? What could she possibly do to you? Hell, if I were single, I'd even ask him whether I could pet her
