OK here you go. It's a tad glitchy here and there (nothing serious though) and I even caught a channel going out for a few secs when it didn't happen live. I dunno why. Never have any issues when recording sets at home the exact same way I did out at Ten. I did use brand new cables which I didn't test a lot at home...will have see if they are faulty in some way.

It's been more like the last month of work... :-p

Be scared when I'm rested next time I (if ever) play...cause when I get into the music at home I start doing these cheesy things and Michelle begs that I don't do it while DJing at a club because it would be embarrassing lol.

Dave - good set overall I thought. Second half was def better but it's all good. A lot of ppl headed to the basement early on cuz there was some banging electro going on down there. Once you picked it up the room filled up again. You had some really nice tracks the 2nd hour. If you do play again just do your thing man, nothing wrong with getting into it. I notice how Reza totally bumps out to his tracks while he's spinning and he's been just banging it out lately. Another great set from him last night. Overall it was a fun night and pretty decent considering the competition with the other event.

I do the same thing here at home when I play Dave...

Overall, It was great seeing someone Ive known in our scene such a long time come full circle. We all have a love for EDM, but for as long as I have known you, even being as critical as you are with all of us it was good to hear what you had on your mind being expressed out from the speakers last night.

I came last night not knowing what to expect. Ive been experimenting with different types of genres myself. So personally trying to appeal to the audience on different nights has been a fun challenge. Im glad you took this approach, because this is what the club needs. I enjoyed the vibe so much that I decided to stay back and chill instead of going to Love. Shit. I been to almost every rave thrown in the bay area and abroad. Missing one wasnt a big deal. Afterall, someone would probably approach me again saying they saw me there so no biggie.

Everyone always thinks that spinni6n records or Djin is an easy task. Ive come across people that critisize everything to the persons weight, to how they mix, controls, etc. Thing that remained true about your set last night is that you played how you wanted to play, regardless of what anyone else said. Experimenting beind the decks is what its about.

Shit happens with laptop issues, and I too have problems sometimes clipping on that 92. Not only that, but sound issues as well as I have too had the sound shut down on me because of a faultly firewire cable.

Overall, as Digital Djing and Laptops become more and more involved with Djs, youll have some issues like this from time to time. Fair warning to all of you out there who use laptops. Be wary on vibration and locations on where you put your laptop. Being the Superclub 1015 is, Its different than any other venue you probably have ever played at. Also, if you are using an external hard drive, also be careful where you set it. If some of you notice, when I play I usually bring foam pads that are under both my laptop, and hard drives. I've experimented both without the foam and with, and each time I have better experiences minimizing vibration overall when I do use foam. Not everyone notices, but the whole booth vibrates. Expecially when I play because I turn the booth monitors to MAX.

The nice thing about the Xone92 is its capability to use effects. In my opinion, its basically built for Trance, progressive, Electro and House. Since I use Traktor, the Xone92 is actually setup within my program, so I really dont have to use the mixer effects. The cool effects on the mixer is its capability to use Delay, Flanger, High Thru Low passovers.. VCF Filters, Beat Masher, everything. The difference the seperates this mixer from others is that its tap programmable on the fly mixin. The only Djs I have ever seen use a built in effect like the Delay effect as far as I can remember was K&A, and Above & Beyond.

The mixer line faders are very sensitive. They have a tendancy to drop down sometimes if you accidentally move your hand across them. I personally have done it a few times. Over time, if you play there enough times, you'll get used to it.

It all depends on how much output you have on your setup/program. When you start hearing distortion, back off the mixer output slowly a bit until you hear it clear out. The beautiful thing about how Marie setup each mixer in house is that each room has a de-limiter. If you start to overpeak, or go above certain DB, it starts to bring the sound down. Ive told this to Djs before and Ill say it again. If you bring the level down it will get louder. Watch your levels and youll be fine. More than often Djs will try to play louder and louder, or turing their setup up so much on the master that it starts to distort. My opinion for anyone who is gonna play there is arrive early. I try to get their nights I play about an hour, or 30 minutes before hand to set things up, and do sound checks on everything.

Other than that, brutal honesty that comes from me is that I would have liked to see more or longer transitions from you. This is in my opinion only. I liked your set overall, even more than a few proggy tracks you played in the beginning. Your Trance selections were spot on for me, and I mentioned this to a few than more people who approached me and asked me who you were. (Thus putting the Happy Birthday Dave T on the Screens). Ill download your set and listen to it again tho. Perhaps Im being too critical on the transitions.

Everyone is nervous up there when they play for the first time. I remember when I played I was pretty much nervous. I personally would like to play a Duo set with you sometime. When your ready of course Dave. Id like to hear you again, and see you in front of headliner, this time sticking to a protocol of an opener.

Agree with what Taj say about resting up the day before. When I opened for Blank & Jones and partied the night before with Matt Darey, I was pretty much beat behind the decks.

My 2 cents. Book DaveT again. Great set minus the glitches.

Thanks Blurr. With the transitions, it really just depends. As I've said before in the past, I really try to focus on phrase-matching and the transitions are only as long as they need to be w/o killing the energy. I would say in most cases my transitions are at least 32 bars (about a minute). Sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. In some cases, it can be real long if I feel the need to setup a loop at the end of the track or the beginning of the next to give me more time to make a smoother transition.

I think it's just a personal taste thing on how that's approached...I am slowly trying to crunch the transition to not be at the very end of a track because you often have a dead energy period during the transition...and if transitions take too long, IMO, you often lose some energy in the set, especially if you are in the meat of it. This is actually my biggest criticism of a DJ like Markus schulz...he used to be REAL bad about loonnng transitions, and it still bugs me sometimes. When I was making the adjustment I wanted to keep the energy going w/o killing the energy to try to get the crowd back quicker. SvD is killer went it comes to setting up transitions so no energy is lost.

I'm by no means an expert on transitions and am always finding myself adjusting my taste on how I like them...

Dave's set on Saturday was spot on. Loved every minute of it when I was there. It's how an opener should play, but I don't think 1015 is ready for that style just yet especially for a local night.

Minimal and Techno just don't seem to work there, but given the proper time like opening up for headliners that style would totally work.

Hot tip. Figure out who manufacture's the Alienware laptops and lookup other laptop sellers and find the same model and probably for a helluva lot less with at least some of the other laptop dealers. The only difference might be the colors on the keyboard and the top is usually customized for each brand.

I ran through about four or five Alienware laptops in a few year span when they used Clevo laptops (who also made/makes laptops for Sager, VoodooPC, 1Beyond, and countless others). We had HORRIBLE support with Alienware so we started buying them from Sager (who didn't provide a lot of support....but they were about 25% less for the exact same laptop...we now just buy all MacBook Pros since we can just run Bootcamp and Windows on it, though.

I believe Alienwave stopped using Clevo (prob a good thing since we'd always burn ours out in a short period of time...hence why I went
through so many). And now that they are owned by Dell, I have no clue who makes them...prob just redone Dell laptops sold for a helluva lot more. But I dunno. Research!

Dave,

Great job playing last saturday! I enjoyed the 2nd half of your set most but I like the fact that you experimented the first hour. We all have to experiement and push the boundaries constantly. Remember, you're not a juke box and you always need to find what works with the crowd and still enjoy what you're playing as your own style.

Hope to see you play again Dave.
