I don't regard any of that as brave or noble, but joining the military is.
Disband your army and see how quickly it becomes a necessity.
I'll come right out and say that everyone should 'auto-respect' your soldiers. Support your troops, if not the mission. The only thing standing between you and conscription is the thousands upon thousands of voluntary soldiers. Without them, it could just as easily be you in a foxhole.

hahahaha, pouring his heart out over the internet? Man. tsk fucking tsk. I expected far more from you. I never said his situation wasn't shit. It truly fucking is. Stop making a goddamned hero out of him though - all of you. Unless some of you actually know him? Hmm? Who is SteelWolf? Who is he? This is what I mean with the auto-respect thing. I am not trying to slight his situation nor am I even responding to his classic tale of woe - I am talking to all of you who think it's brave or noble or something to be stationed far the fuck away from your families for extensive periods of time, live in shitty conditions for years, eat shitty food, lose sleep, etc. I mean, are you all really under the illusion of its necessity? That's all well and good, but I can tell you're just in one of those contrary moods. Go read a book and jerk off in the corner for a while, you'll feel much better about yourself, I promise. I may go do the same, actually. |

Class response, way to miss the point entirely. What exactly did you "expect" from me? To be an a crass prick for absolutely no reason at all? And where did I make him into a hero? You really seem to love making assumptions about people based on absolutely no textual evidence what-so-ever. Where did I command you to respect him?
All I asked is what you're getting out of this - and all I think you are is entertainment, which is all fine and well, but it's also fucking pathetic that random irrelevant soapbox bullshit like this is what gets you off.
And if you're going to play the "You're always a dickhead card" - well you can fuck right off because you clearly haven't been paying much attention.

What the fuck does that even mean, anyways? LoL.
I think you're all forgetting what this guy is actually bitching about here: A BROKEN FINGER AND HIS GIRLFRIEND LEFT HIM.
This is just like any other ghey pity thread, except because this guy's in the army that somehow means we should feel extra sorry for him? Fuck off, lol.
He's surrounded by people who are (apparently) suffering, but the universe is against HIM, right? Again, fuck off.
And don't even bring conscription into this. What is this, World War II? Do you think that's what this war is about? Lmfao.

You take things so personally.
The fact that you still hold that any of this actually has a point is proof enough you pay as much attention as I do.

It means that you should remember there are a lot of soldiers there who don't support the mission, or the administration, but are stuck in the shit anyways. Any one of whom could easily be your little brother. Let's try not to make the same mistakes as during Vietnam, where soldiers were routinely spat on (I've been spat on while in uniform), called baby-killers, etc...for nothing more than answering the call. They're people, not mindless killing machines and standing day after day in the blood of children has a way of screwing with you head, you should know that Jenny.

He also complains of insomnia unless medicated, and nightmares when he does manage to sleep. Post-traumatic stress is serious shit.
Okay, so he's fishing a bit, but given his current situation, I'll bite. Have a fucking heart.

Apparently suffering?
What about this looks subjective to you?

WWII has nothing to do with it. Vietnam? A shortage of volunteer soldiers means conscription. What is so hard to understand here?
Manditory military service is a way of life in a lot of countries, and there but for the grace of a volunteer standing army go all of you.
To be frank, I'm really disappointed in the attitude here. Especially you Jenny, you're a nurse. You should understand this better than most because you deal with the sick, injured, dying and dead. Or has all that time in hospice, worrying about whether or not calling a mistake to attention would cost you your job ruined your objectivity and voided you of compassion.

I think your reference to Jenny's profession is taking her comments out of context. Do I really need to elaborate?

He's no different from AustralianGQ. lol his presence is good to practice the ol' noggin once in a while (not that anyone's had to so far based on his recent posts).

Her comments aside, as a nurse I would expect something leaning more towards sitting at his bedside, or trying to give him a spiritual boost as opposed to 'boo-hoo, fuck you'.

actually i couldn't imagine being in iraq and all the mindfuck that comes along with it.. my heart goes out to you man, hang in there.

Oh fuck off. Nursing is a job, just like being a soldier. I'm not at work right now, am I?
Because I'm a nurse I'm supposed to have automatic compassion for everyone and everything? LoL.
A) You know nothing about nursing.
b) LoL.
Posted by wienerschnitzel on Feb-19-2008 20:08:
i honestly couldn't do nursing either, that takes balls, or ****, i don't know if that even makes sense?

It's ridiculous to expect a little sympathy for a soldier, who's having a bad stretch?
It's ridiculous to expect a nurse (or anyone) to be sympathetic to the complaints of human being who is both mentally and physically wounded, and reaches out for a few kind words?

Because you're a nurse you should have a better understanding than most of what this guy is dealing with right now. Because you're an intelligent human being you're supposed to have compassion for others.
If some kid got hit by a car right in front of you, you would just shrug your shoulders and say, "too bad I'm not working right now or I would help you".
You right, I clearly know nothing about nursing. But I'm learning all about you.
