| Originally posted by chico Markus' mashups are great but often done by pre-production - A&I had a lot of raw mixing skill and there was more flair used to mashup on the fly (though some of them were produced too). that said, it is not a criticism of markus since his style is more progressive so it suits and sounds best to do this way, conversely someone like Laidback luke is really skilled for scratching and fast cuts but it occassionally takes away from the flow of the set. there is something to be said for having both technical abilities and strong fundamentals of track mixing being harnessed together for a balance which is what we got last night. earlier parts of the set when they spun back to back was more technically interesting, but once seb had left steve worked a lot more progressively with the flow and grooves. andy c is great, but hype schools him from a technical point of view (just listen to Fabriclive 18 Andy C & DJ Hype - it's so distinct there isn't any contest). i'm still waiting to hear a house dj that can double-drop like hype, now that would be gold |
I was anticipating this party more than any of the others so far this year... I unfortunately wasn't able to make it to Sasha & Digweed, and although I hear Digweed ripped it up, I've seen both dj's seperately and would only have felt really bad if I had missed them together, till next time I guess..
What can I say.. I arrived at the club at around 12:30.. the music was good but of course Angello and Ingrosso were still warming up... and I knew the set could only get better... and it did...
From around 2:30am until I left(6:15am) I could not stop moving !! (no drugs involved).. the music and mixing was great, and I love how Steve and Sebastian were so full of energy, proving that they actually appreciated Toronto and it's partiers.. there's no better feeling than a Dj you love is having a great time in your own city, and doesn't hesitate to show it..
I was even able to get my buddies who wanted to leave at 4:00am to stay an extra 2 hours.. and I didn't even have to beg them, the music and energy definitely worked as a magnet to keep them dancing and provide a sense of timelessness..
Songs that made the place go wild included:
Sharam- Get Wild
Diamond Life accapella over Eric Prydz- Muranyi
Robyn- Show Me Love
Eric Prydz- Pjanooo
Knight & Funkagenda- Shogun
and a few others.. including the harder stuff that was played towards the end.. it would have been nice to have been able to stay till 7am but I stll thoroughly enjoyed myself, as did the people I was with.. best party of the year for me so far =)
oh and btw some friends of mine asked me to visit them in the Acid Lounge for a bit.. i only stayed for a couple of minutes because I didn't wanna miss much Angello/Ingrosso... but I must admit the music in there was Wicked, well during the short period of time I was in there at least.. and I don't remember the Acid Lounge EVER being that crazy !! Kudos to the Dj's spinnin in there as well..
Lastly, I wish I had brought my digital camera... instead I have a bunch of shitty quality videos that I took with my Motorola Razr, haha.. thanks to the guy who uploaded his vids though !! They were great!!
I'm never drinking again....

Great Night, Best show of 2008, one of the best I've ever seen. Crowd interaction was 15/10...these two work their asses off...ppl asked me a few times if they were brothers, because they knew each others next move and were on point with everything.
Nice chatting with some TA's nice to meet you again FunkyCrew sorry i didn't put 2 and 2 together at first lol!!Nice to meet you Dan before i dropped a duke in the mainroom.
DaRoza nice meeting you man i couldn't find you after we chatted a bit, thanks for the thread BTW i told him to make it so he was just being a cool cat,it was at my request so don't hold that against him.
Shouts out to my Nigga's Chinamon and Shaya, for always being on point and hospitable...I love you guys hahaha
Swamper your such a dick for banning me. I'm j/k man i didn't know u had nothing to do with it ( plz don't ban me again )
My ban was given after I posted an Anal Sex pic in the credit card thread...why? well everyone gets fucked by credit cards and there was a cheesy bubble and inside said "no credit cards", so i thought it was relevant and perfect...guess not.
The night was perfect except after the hip hop room closes and all the riff raff come in and kill the vibe down a bit.
10/10 on the night.
Bravo!!

Lol, do you remember that one guy who was rubbing up against all of us for the longest time? I was so happy when he finally moved.. just wow Guv = eternal shoving match but the music SO makes up for it! |

I just found out about these guys this year...I believe the play in Ibiza a lot?
Digweed disappointed me, but this show looked good. I just downloaded a bootleg set from the "lovebox" festival from last May, and it sounds like pretty upbeat crazy house!
absolutely phenomenal!
what a show...these guys have taken the cake, eaten it AND gone back for seconds. terrific music, outstanding energy, fabulous mixing and sensational crowd interaction.
moment of the night HAD to be Angello getting on the mic after ingrosso was done at like 5.30 am "I want everybody in the room to come in real close cuz this is getting intimate" then he dropped some incredible remix of armin "if you should go" ID????? the dj booth dropped to the floor and enough people followed his lead if only for a song or two for it bring a fantastic vibe back to a tired crowd. I say tired because the place was bonkers for the first 3 to 4 hours they played.
a definate must see. Problem is i will never be satisfied with anything BUT an extended set by them again.

it was a sad, sad moment to leave before they were done.. i wanted to stay soo bad have but we were all so dead (but that wouldn't have stopped me alone
) i believe you when you say they were phenomenal til the end and even more so at the last, i wanted to do a closer for sure.. but there's always next time
we had free tickets but didn't go to this..after attending Digweed that night and coming out for these guys? Musically I would feel dumbed down.
oh yeah.. any pictures anyone?
