i warped them as i played them in some cases

it's really a joke how easy it is, especially if you have experience mixing before jumping onto ableton.

Once you know how warping takes a few seconds.

This would describe me. I only have a computer at the moment, saving up for a couple decks. And since I'm bedroom only, it's like I'm just driving that automatic transmission around the front of the driveway only.

perfectly alright

i used to use dj simulators before i got decks too

It gets a bit boring for me, I don't feel very involved. Could mean I don't know how to use Ableton to it's full capabilities, and I don't. But I think it comes down to not feeling as involved in it as I'd like to.

But for the overall topic, as long as the music is good, and I'm having a good time then I don't care what's being used.

I don't feel as though I'm missing out on ANYTHING!! Maybe I should have pointed out that I've been using the Xone 3D for about 6 months now...definitely not using a Mac and a mouse

my mixing isnt the greatest with cdjs but i always get complimented on tracks asked a friend to tag team with me but he uses Live so instead of just splitting my time slot, he taught me Live and we had a great time! Since then I continued to use Live but have been lazy on learning all its possibilities Do miss not being able to browse beatport, getting the tracks and putting them on disc at work and playing them later that night for happy hour. At least for Thursday nights. I don't really want to warp tracks on the way to the city or at the club.

If someone is using Ableton to just jump from track to track it seems like a waste..just use decks. However I like adding in a MIDI keyboard to add more of a "performance" aspect then just mixing and I'm always practicing at home to add new stuff to my sets when I'm playing live.

I'm in agreement with most everyone else; a good DJ is a good DJ is a good DJ, the medium is meaningless.

You can just warp songs as you go. It should take you 30 seconds or so as long as the MP3 has a constant BPM.

huh?

with ableton you can warp any track with any bpm.

no limits.

You can teach a monkey to beatmatch. It takes a lot more skill to be able to structure a set.

I have no problems with digital djs. i will admit when it first came out I was a bit hmmmmmm about it, but now I just don't care, as long as the music is good.

(I play vinyl btw, so I'm not biased towards digital)

Pirated stuff, bootlegs, and vinyl rips could have tiny BPM fluctuations. In this case, you have to make sure each beat is dead on, which gets to become tedious. All of the tracks I've bought from beatport have an absolute BPM, so they are easy to warp.

They aren't all that way. Not everything sold on Beatport is made with a computer.

Posted by nefardec on Jul-12-2008 17:49:

plus there are a lot of vinyl rips in the back catalogs

I buy mostly trance a rare house tune here or there.

So far they have worked out to be really easy.
