I kinda see the point he was trying to get at. In terms of putting together a diff. set. Or what not. Like I see DJs like Armin, Dubfire, Deadmau5 that would play the same tracks at every gig (not pre-planned or same order but it's a hot song or their own production) and think to myself wouldn't they get bored of hearing the same song so many times? Like how many times have you guys heard Dubfire - Roadkill or Samim - Heater last year and got annoyed hearing it?

BUT this doesn't necessarily mean that they have no passion for the job. It can just mean that they know it's a big track and it would get the crowd going or that the crowd expects the DJ to play it.

I agree with you... If its a big track DJs are damned if they play it and damned if they don't. People love to complain - whether it is not hearing the track they expected to hear, or hearing that same track that is 'played too often'

I have caught some of our locals looking extremely bored at times, but all the names mentioned have always put on at least a decent set and I have never doubted their passion.

I do wish that we could have some different residents at Guvernment. I am not bashing Mark Oliver, but a lot of the other world class clubs have international DJs as semi-residents... it would be amazing if Guv could have the same.

I'll do you one better....Toronto should just ban DJs....then we won't have any of these issues....heck...just ban music....its just stupid noise pollution that is warping the fragile minds of stupid Torontonians

I am not saying dont host the parties because any M&S, Roach, Junkie party etc is always pretty good. I ask this because often times they looked bored behind the decks. It dosnt seem as if they have the energy I know they could bring.(Hence why I said in the first post they were good and had talent) I would imagine if they didnt have to listen to Grindhouse 10 times a week they might be more interested.

i will have to apologize on their behalf for not getting absolutely shit-faced like steve aoki does and climbs everything in site like a monkey.

are you fucking kidding me!!!!!
someone told me about this on the BBS cruise yesterday and I was itching to come have a read for myself.

10 pages of pure flamage.

dude...wtf...its like you already jumped in front of the bus. DJ's play gigs to support themselves. Especially when you're running labels, hosting events on the side. The way i see it, the only DJ's who are probably not passionate about their music are some wedding djs who are forced to play music they may not actually appreciate.

even that is a bold statement.

Every DJ i know, whether be someone whose made it in this scene and is extremely talented to someone who does it as a hobby and may not be as talented has fucking passion for music. They would play 7 days a week if they could.

Everything else has already been said

Some hillarious responses here..

just brilliant

i never got why people care if a dj looks bored.

playing out is not like playing for your stuffed animals at your sisters tea party. People WILL remember fuck ups...do you ever think the guy playing might be too absorbed in trying to create something stimulating for the ears that gets people moving to give you a wink/fistpump/unicorn
howl? Fuck...the booth should be hidden like back in the day. Stop putting that antic shit on the pedestal.

Maybe you should go to work once a week to be more passionate about the special sauce you put on burgers, because passionate people don't have bills to pay.

ps. toronto sucks.

I didn't realize it was actually possible for a person to write so much without finishing a single sentence. I mean, I know it's tricky converting one's stream of consciousness into a clean, concise diatribe, but you didn't even try. Kudos.

I love the Toronto residents. Like more or less everyone else said, how can you not have passion if you spin as much as they do, produce, run labels, and occasionally scratch their asses. Cheers to you guys for making every trip to toronto a success
