It's not that far fetched.
The human species is not invincible.

I agree with the rest of your points. However, healthcare is a necessity, and as such, it simply MUST be paid for with our taxes. Why? Because we as a society choose to care for older people, for sick kids and for our less fortunate friends and co-workers.
You said that if people have money, they should be able to jump the line (say, for a cancer treatment?). That, my friend, is baloney. In this country, everyone should be equal (in the eyes of healthcare). And hey, if you have cash, there's loads of places that you can go to (even in the US) to pay for your treatment. Feel free to do so. In this country, healthcare must be subsidized and public.
Again, the rest of your points are valid because the deal with things that are not necessities. They are not required.
Can't afford daycare = Don't have kids. No need to register your gun (what a croc). Can't afford a car = Use public transit. Can't afford to buy a house = Buy a condo or rent. Can't afford quick-enough cancer-treatment = Die?. Do you see a WTF coming up?
Public/private healthcare is just a step toward fully private healthcare (like in the US - where I currently do some contract work). Let me tell you: speaking from experience, private healthcare sucks.
