The website has a video of the Contakt event from Sonar...looks amazing.

Still waiting for them to reschedule the Montreal Event I was going to.

Same.
It's all just dance music. Let's not take it too seriously folks!

Theres a time / place for the really minimal/experimental stuff, and it isn't always on the dance floor. What may make for some great home-listening / spaced out beats / after-party music can make for one hell of a boring moment on the dance floor.

Then again - when moments like that are pulled off well - it can be pretty stellar. But, those moments still tend to have a bass/beat to keep it pulled together. Going into a 12 min beatless/bassless interlude just gets people moving to the bar instead of on the dance floor.

I like it when there is a good balance. Like Richie vs Ricardo at Mutek, when he starts playing False - Fed on Youth, leads into that track with the girl vocal that is just really spaced out - almost like a lullaby, then proceeds into about 30 mins of the best set I've ever heard live - even listening to the set now I get chills.

did you only just find out about him recently or something? He's been huge in europe for over decade. lol

Isn't he from Windsor? ....or Sandwich??

Posted by kaniz on Sep-23-2008 13:16:

Born in England, spent most of his childhood / youth in Windsor, recently(ish) relocated to Berlin.

He started to make a name for himself when he was in Windsor. The Slices DVD documentary on him is a pretty interesting watch - see if you can find it a torrent or something.

Was a rhetorical question

Have met and chatted with Richie many times in Windsor

I can't stop watching this video! The crowd looks totally bored because of this awful cheesey 80's track Richie is playing, and then out of nowhere he drops spastik on them! <3 <3

Posted by Skipper on Oct-19-2008 17:40:

Also, wtf advertising from native instruments - hawtin and grandmasta flash.

Posted by VERTiG0 on Oct-19-2008 17:49:

I'm listening to Richie Hawtin & Luciano - I Want To Fuck. Is this a new(ish) tune? I haven't heard it before and it's damn good.

Some 80's cheese? Watch it...

That's Laura Branagin - Self Control

He's also brought back Billie Jean at Time Warp

And Prince - Erotic City at Minitek

He must be going through some sort of mid-life crisis.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Oct-19-2008 18:17:

I would probably piss my pants if I heard any DJ drop Erotic City.

+1

This documentary kicks ass. gives crazy insight into the Detroit techno scene in the late 80's early 90's and hawtin's role in developing it. If anyone hasn't seen it i strongly recommend downloading it.
