Digweed was bonkers! BUT the GUV crowd is too much for me nowadays...

PS - the last time I was in the Guv DJ booth, Mark Oliver had had custom-machined metal caps to put on the spindles of the 1200s so they wouldn't skip.
If things are still set up that way, I'm guessing Chris probably didn't have access to those. Extreme bass in a poorly laid out DJ booth can cause nightmares with skipping - and with the way the Guv are constantly swapping things in and out, the environment can change rapidly.
the only thing i notice from some of the "vet" reviews is that john digweed didnt have enough epic breakdowns in his set. times change, he dont play dat shit no mo.

one of the few reasons I came out!
for some crazy mindfucking tunage1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I ended my review with a simple wowhowever, now that I have rested, I wanted to elaborate a little bit more to justify my reasons for being wowd.
First. I did not enjoy Chris Fortier. Lack of flow to his set, and just wasn't getting it. I expected John to come on at two, glad he started half an hour earlier. Mark Oliver followed Digweed, keeping that momentum alive. Wish I could have stayed a little longer for the closing, but I was beat.
But I came into this party, for one reason, to see Digweed again. I actually wanted to see him play the main room, and work the atmosphere within those four walls. Sure I saw him in the Kool Haus in April, but Saturday night, to me, was just on a whole new level. I do agree that Digweed builds it up big and drops in low, but this is what I have learned to expect from him lately and this is what I want to hear. Digweed to me, is a storytellerand a good story has your high points and your low points, good open and a perfect close, leaving you wanting more. This is how I have always felt about his style, from the first time I saw him, and this is why I came to see him play again. He plays out like slow churning water in the ocean, then, like a high wave crashing into you on the beach, and sucking you back in to the water.
I expected dark rolling chugging beats, I got them.
I expected deep heavy bass drops, I got them.
I left this party wanting to hear more.
Perfect story.
As for the vibe of the room, it went off in there on numerous occasions. Sure there is your regular weekly Guvernment characters, but that is always expected. I tend to just avoid and carry on with my night. Who are they to me? Nobody. Just another person in the crowd. They have little affect when Im there to hear the tunes I wanna here and dance my ass off. I was glued to the dance floor for almost the entire four hours John was playing. Whats around me, meh, I've got my spaceIll dance. If that spot isnt working, Ill move on.
Numerous times throughout Digweeds set, I had to stop, look up and just say Woah. What was that?
If it werent for Sasha return in November, I could probably say I didn't want to go back to the Guvy this year, as this would have been a perfect last visit to the club for 2008.

Did he play Timo Maas - The Subtellite?
It has been a while since i braved the Guv. but John Digweed is always a good reason to return to the mainroom.
I arrived at right around 1:30, when Fortier was playing his last track, which sounded like complete garbage. As soon as Digweed mixed in his first track there was a dramatic change to the music on that system. I loved the first hour of his set, not too hard or too soft. I was pleased because this hour was a great "primer" if you will, for my girl, who has never witnessed Diggers live. Great programming and smooth as silk mixing. For some reason i felt that the phazon system in that room never sounded so good. The second and third hours got a little harder and the he was starting to drop some more epic tracks during those hours, which i thought went over well with the half of the crowd that actually understood what was going down musically. LOL. The crowd was annoying, but not as bad as it could have been. At around 3:50 Digweed dropped this crazy rolling techno track that im hurtin' to find out about!! Trainspotters? Soon after that i ended up ducking out for some late night take out. I kind of wish i had more in me to hear the last hour of his set. I Heard it was exceptional.
i think the noob vs. veteran arguement is weak...in my opinion there are people like me, who go out to have fun listening to great music and dancing with friends..and can make the best out of any situation by looking past the sketch and the crowdedness (when is guv not crowded) and there are those who go to a club and critique a dj's every move and every track played(comparing the dj to every other previous performance), DO NOT DANCE(seriously wtf), are bothered by sketchy people or little asia or big sweaty muscle guys and expect their every last wish to be fulfilled or else they are totally dissappointed and complain. Or, at least it seems that way with some people...
