When I'm 55 and I retire, I'm moving in with Keith Richards at the Pawn Shop in Miami, I hope that doesn't make or break the relationship.

Doesn't look like anyone's said it yet -

Shit music is shit music. There's shit trance, shit house, shit R&B, top 40, alt rock et cetera. Point is, there's bound to be lots of shit everywhere - It's just a matter of finding the quality. I'm proud to say I've got the Notorious BIG, the Police, John Lennon, U2 and Above & Beyond mounted in 12" vinyls up on my wall as a show of my admiration for a good record, regardless of the genres I listen to the most frequently.

When looking for a significant other I've always been most adamant about finding someone with a passion for music; not just trance music or house music or rock music, but music music.

Also very proud to say I came really fucking close too. Ah well, next time.

Oh, you mean like 80's speed metal?

I dated a girl who was into the more "rapid" and "hardcore" end of the rock spectrum - It wasn't the difference in musical tastes that did us in, it was her being a posessive, lopsided self-masochist.

Ah, a cutter eh?

Details aside, she was a strange one.

Although, while I know there are exceptions, blah, blah, blah - I find that the type of music a person into, can also say quite a bit about their personality. Especially if they are really INTO the music, and the life-style around it.

For example, it's one thing to like rap music, it's another thing to be really into rap music and the thugg-vibe/attitude/lifestyle that can go with it and the scene around it.

While I wouldn't have issue if they liked some rap music. But, if they ran around in urban wear, bling-bling and had that wanna-be thug attitude and into the "scene" - then that's a deal breaker, but theres alot more there that's probably breaking the deal than the music that they like.

I don't want to have to take care of her if she's not feeling or well, or if she wants to leave early. I can arrive when I want & Leave when I want and don't to worry about some of the shit that people go through with their gfs at the club lol

What if it was an all access night and you wanted to listen to House, but she wants you to listen to trance ( )...that could ruin your night! Plus it gets expensive if you pay for everything lol

2 tickets, drinks, parking, coat check, hot dogs, freezies, etc.

lol. whoa. this sounds very strange.

wow, if your that co-dependent on each other that you guys cant even go to different rooms of the same club - then you have issues.

In terms of feeling well: Yes, that is something I'll deal with, because you know - it's my partner, and they are feeling sick - and it'd be an asshole thing to do to send them home sick so you can keep on partying.

That said, if someone wants to leave earlier than the other person - give them a hug & kiss goodnight, and be on your way. Now and then this can lead to an awkward moment here and there, but there's been more than once where my partner has left before me, or I've left before my partner. Really, its no big deal.

Also, paying for everything - umm, maybe in the first stages of courtship, or if it's something that you really want to do - but they were not as interested in. But after any significant period of time of dating - the other person really should start paying their own way IMO.

If you have any sense of independence, 90% of what you went off about is really a non-issue.

Re: Dating someone who has different tastes in music

depends on if the relationship is casual (then different musical tastes may be an issue), or if it's serious (shouldn't be an issue).

Music tastes can extend to different fashion tastes, different types of friends, different types of parties, and even different types of indulgences - you know what I mean . If these aspects are pulling you away from your sig other, then you have a problem, as it's difficult to juggle all of them with a non-edm gf/bf.

lol@some of the Dr Phils on here.. you're in a relationship now and all of a sudden you become one.

I have a sugarmama that pays for everything. I just make her look young again by accompanying her...

Kinda like in the movie Hors de prix

whats that, your a whore?

Posted by The Highroller on Oct-22-2008 14:38:

Quite simply, dating someone in "the scene" is preferable for me, but most of the girls I meet at clubs are just not dating material.

'Gotta love quoting oneself, narcissism rules

of course, a reversal of the above can hold true as well. Different tastes can be an issue in a serious relationship and a non-issue in a casual one too. Either way, much of it depends on how immersed you/she/he are into your respective scenes. Personally, I've had to step back from TA/EDM a bit (because of the differences) in the past year but that's probably a good thing.

lol. that's what i was thinking.

that's why it sounded weird to me.

if your partner is sick at the club, you better be ready to leave and not make them feel like a loser about it. if fact, i have left clubs for friends not just partners. there will always be another party.

i love having someone to hang out with at the club. it's so strange going alone (even with friends, it's not the same) but on the other hand I am ok exploring on my own and can take of myself and that i know my partner doesn't need to worry about "taking care of me".
