I'd like to bump this oldie because of one transition I heard recently that absolutely blew my mind. LTJ Bukem on the Essential Mix back in 1995. I remember listening to this mix and there was one track in particular that was just unbelievably epic, I just had to find it. But I scanned the tracklist over and over, and none of the tracks matched up. Turns out it's two tracks, Bukem melding Aquasky - Dezires into PFM - The Mystics. You can hear it from about 3.15 here (embedding disabled): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zimzzn0WK3w. Pure sex.
I seriously think Bukem is one of the smoothest mixers I've ever heard. A lot of progressive DJs much renowned for their long blends actually keep it very simple when they play in clubs, but I've seen Bukem three times now and his mixing is always unbelievably smooth, just impossible to spot the gaps between tracks, and all on vinyl. I bumped into him in the toilets of The Wire club in Leeds just before he went on, and it was the only time in my life I've been genuinely star-struck.
Thanks for bumping this Jack. I just listened to that transition in Digweed's 1995 EM. Wow
It's a good thread, high time it got a bump. Bizarrely high proportion of Tiesto transitions nominated, though. 2008 was a simpler time.
Ultra Dance 05 Disc 1 (a little cheesy, I know)
8. Boogie Pimps - Somebody to Love (Main Club Mix) into
9. Lucas Prata - Never Be Alone (Valentin Club Mix)
One of the best quotes from Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas crescendoing into "galloping" synths from Never Be Alone, it makes me get shivers and goosebumps every time I hear it.

might be pandering here but Avenue -> Tell me Why is great. Love the tempo synced flanger set to 3 bars
i think amateur and hobby DJs should focus on these kind of things more often. To be honest I get really bored listening to amateur sets because they simply queue up tracks and don't put a lot of thought into this. If you're not at the club, make mixes for home listening and there is nothing that makes that a more pleasurable experience then sexy transitions.
Dave King does a bloody amazing mix from Cosmithex - Cube into Solano - Fire Signs on this 'Tales of the Future' set. The energy just goes through the roof

Way too many to mention but these are some of my favourite ones:

DJ Gogo - 'Sayna' -> G-Pal presents Ghos - 'I Can See The Lights'

The whole opening of this mix is marvellous.
Paganini Traxx - Zoe (Forth's Angel Fire Remix) -> Illuminatus - Hope (Chill Out Mix) -> Space Manovers - "Stage 2 (Space Manovers Seperation Mix) -> Madagascar - "Requiem" (Coda)
Some dude even put it up on youtube.

Bimbo Jones - And I Try (acap)
Chicane - Off Shore (Disco Citizens Remix)
The vocals of And I Try are started in Age Of Love and continue into Off Shore, awesome. Must upload it to Youtube.
Ben still is the mastermixer.

D:Fuse - Bodyshock -----> Filip Skrapitch - Ksaut
from dasha rush - go and make memories:
mitchel akiyama - meridial into vladislav delay - kohde
from gu005:
'fortune telling fish' into 'you are sleeping'
from hernan cattaneo pres south america:
'twister' into 'the search (weekend world remix)'. cant imagine hearing this live holy sheeit
The best I ever heard was Sasha at the Ally Pally new years eve
Libra Presents Taylor - Anomaly (Calling Your Name) (Albion Mix) Tilt - Whats This? (Tilts Tunnel Mix)
I have tried many many times and I am no slouch myself when it comes to mixing but I cannot replicate the energy when that tilt bassline comes in.
My favorite transition I did was this one, blew my tits off
Orkidea - Unity [Steelfish]
Cliff Tangredi - Shimmer [Rotunda]
Ecano - Run (Z2 Mix) [Avant Garde]
Z2 - I Want You (Vocal Mix) [Deep Blue]
Hyper X - Out There (Steve Porter Mix) [White Label]
Andy Ling Fixation into Movin Thru Your System into Maurice Feline is another personal favorite I like to do.

| Originally posted by SYSTEM-J John Digweed's 1995 Essential Mix. Lighthouse Family - Ocean Drive (Blue Amazon Dub) -> Daphne - Change (Brothers in Rhythm Remix) A five minute harmonic overlay with a fucking key change halfway through. If anyone should ever question what John Digweed did to earn his superstar DJ status, this transition will shut them the fuck up. |
