Teaching classes, running labs with millions of dollars of equipment, flying around the country to present new research, and constantly having to write grants for funding. They make just slightly more than a librarian.

Now if they left academia and worked in the private industry they would make at least twice as much as any librarian and work half as hard as they would at a research university. Just illustrating that sometimes working harder doesn't make you more though it should. Like you said you work harder but make less.

definitely depends on the industry. i give it to you on the research bit, those jobs are tough. my best friend since high school has been on the research trek since we were 16 and that girl works harder than anyone i know and not rewarded for it in terms of compensation.

I thought I wanted to do it myself, but you really have to be in it for the some other reason that I can't come up with.

That's what I say, too. If a librarian is making what I make and they do less work...I may have gotten the wrong degrees and stuff.

one of my friends got her masters in "library science". she's now working at the physics library at university of Iowa

i disagree, as people are usually focused on what they need to buy so it's possible that a girl could be totally oblivious to you checking her out and would be pleasantly surprised when you approach her while she is concentrating on what pasta to buy.
