Yeah, I had no idea it was even a movie. It was a really fantastic book though, so I just added it to the Netflix queue.

To save you some time, if you've read the first section you've read the whole book. Interesting stuff, but all the original ideas are run through by the end of the first hundred pages.

The music in it is so good.

Gaiman is pretty popular with a lot of "hipster" fantasy readers and wanted to see what it is all about. Not really that impressed after 400 pages in. He's an imaginative guy but he doesn't weave that great of a story.

I didn't like it at all, I can tell you it doesn't get any better after 400 pages. Some nice tips for con artists though

Don't bother... the movie was decent but what makes the book so great is the depth of the character development, which the movie just guts in order to boil the book down into a 2 hour run time movie. You'll be incredibly disappointed with the movie despite Morgan Freeman.

started leafing through this last night, it is pretty interesting as well.

Yeah, I imagine that Doc and Peekay in particular don't translate well to a shortened form. The book develops slowly, but that's part of what makes it so rich, in my opinion. I'm still interested in seeing it, but my expectations aren't terribly high.

Yeah, the movie condenses the entire first half of the book into about 20-30 minutes then goes on to focus almost exclusively on his private school boxing days. Morgan Freeman is great as Geel Piet though.

Damn - the train ride and the prison stuff were the best parts.

Just started on these two:

I'm on a "slumming it in the city" bent I guess. I just finished, "Service Included"--another one that's interesting if you're into the New York City restaurant world, or just fancy restaurants in general.

Just finished Anna Karenina and now reading Banana Yoshimoto's N.P.

I'm listening to the audiobook. Does that count?

Man, I still fucking love that book. I'm tempted to re-read...but I really must get through the rest of my to-read list. :/

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn - One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. I'm enjoying it. It reminds me a lot of Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front.
