lol really? im surprised becuase i think friendship and sex between opposite sex is mostly unspoken rule.

i donno i would feel awkward if my friend told me "hey we can be friends but dont even think about coming on to me".

Posted by Fledz on Feb-12-2009 03:59:

I tend to have quite a few female friends, though I'm not really that attracted to any of them which is what they all share in common.

Of all the female friends that I've had that I have been attracted to and wanted to go out with, I tend to not really keep in contact with them that much.

I don't know if it's just me but I can't be really good friends with a girl I want to date. It's one or the other, no in between.

How old are you? Lol.

Maybe I'm just being naive...but I'm pretty sure my friends don't think of me and want to fuck me. In fact I'm pretty sure they all think I secretly have a dick.

How so?

I really think of the girls I date as a kind of friend with benefits, in which one of the benefits is "exclusivity"

Yeah, that has happened to me. I was talking to someone for a few months as a friend and then she dropped it on me that she had "feelings" for me. I have done that to girls in the past as well.

IMO it's often beneficial just to keep those feelings inside. The "let it all hang out" mentality usually doesn't resolve much of anything. And I know that people think, "My God, but what if he / she feels the same and ends up being the love of my life?! I can't possibly keep this inside! AAAAHHH!" But I think a lot of times those sorts of feelings really can fade, if you don't obsess over them.

lolwut?

Posted by Domesticated on Feb-12-2009 04:36:

I have dozens of female acquaintances; they're all close enough that I have their numbers in my phone and I see them in group situations every week. However, I don't have a single female friend who I would ever call up or do anything with alone.

Women are fucking boring and have a shit sense of humour.

im going to be 22 on saturday, why?

maybe i should of asked how you managed to set those boundaries?

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Feb-12-2009 04:44:

Is there anyone out there who actually likes ambiguous boundaries sometimes?

IMO a little sexual tension can be an interesting element.

Usually, when a man and a woman have a friendship, one or the other has pining feelings for the other at SOME point in the friendship. I think a lot of people get into that mentality of "but he's my FRIEND! He wouldn't steer me in the wrong direction!!!!!!!"

Uh, yes he would.

thread over.

I have never put out ANY kind of sexual vibe around my guy friends and I don't flirt with them (ew). Rather, I'm pretty conscious of the vibe I give off, because I know that despite what I think they may read into things differently.

Usually that's enough. When my friends have crossed the line I told them I didn't like it or it was inappropriate, etc...even if it was just "harmless" flirting.

I dunno, it's just obvious that I'm not available to them sexually (even when I was single). I mean, don't you know anything about the subtleties of non-verbal communication??

Yeah, but after the pining romanticist gets over his / her little feelings, a friendship can grow.

Thread not over!

No, I like everything in its right place: Acquaintances in the left column, friends in the middle, and lovers in the right column. I also don't like when the rice touches the peas

Seriously. Everyone is NOT a blithering idiot.

I guess I just sort them into one or the other as soon as I meet them.

Are you serious? 99% of us don't know what non-verbal communication is, let alone understand the nuances of it. That's why it makes me laugh when you say you've made your intentions around your male friends "perfectly clear". What's perfectly clear in the mind of a female is...well, pretty fucking ambiguous to us stone-age primates looking for sex.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Feb-12-2009 04:58:

Yeah, except I'm not a fucking moron. My friendships with my guy friends speak for themselves, really.

And that's exactly why I'm very conscious of my own non-verbal cues...because everyone ELSE tends to be fucking stupid. People may not be conscious of it, but they do pick up on stuff like that.
