anyway, left gallery cuz the music was equally as sour as the stench that was floating in the air. i bolted thru chinatown into the acid lounge and heard some dude play some sick prog. not sure if it was Aleksandras brother or someone else. after that i left, ate gross street meat and went home.

what?!!!!!! in Gallery....that was Christina Cruise with her bling headphones...and she is (in my opinion) the best chick in T.O. AND she played an absolutely flawless set in there! Gallery was bumpin' right up until she closed it out at 5am!!! We obviously have complete opposite tastes in techno/minimal though because i also love Alicia Hush! lol

at least we agree on Jaytech! :P

I agree Shaya.

You know what, he has a super amount of responcibility in that club, and the fact is, nobody should be in front of the booth like that, and I'm willing to bet you already knew that.

A few years ago tim brought me and vince up to meet a DJ in the Booth when it was still up on the second floor, and he was super cool about everything. His one rule was, respect the booth. If you can follow that rule then you will be fine. If you get in the way and break simple rules, then your getting tossed, pretty simple.

yeah, they have this rule.. not letting anyone inside until 4:30 am, so that they could close the room at 5... i'll try to do something about it

Ok time for my review.

Jaytech won my heart. I'm so in love. He played an AMAZING set. I hated that it had to end. I still dont understand why you would fly in sucn an amazing dj for one hour? I can't believe he played Delta. I truly lost my mind. I was jumping and dancing and screaming like a mad woman. Such a killer tune. And Villa Nova, love love love it. His energy was amazing. You could tell he loved every moment of it. It was so nice to see that the people front/centre were actually jaytech fans. Thanks to Jer I got a chance to exchange a few words with him... such a nice guy and so humble. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring him back.

Above and Beyond started nice and hard which I liked and then worked their way up to full on cheese (but Im not complaining). I loved hearing all the classics as well as some new tunes. Nothing beats singing out the lyrics with all your friends around. Reminded me of my first trance party. The guys had tons of energy and that they were happy to be here. I heard pretty much every track I wanted to hear by them. I had so much fun.

As everyone said, it was super crowded. I cant have fun in crowds like that. I NEED to DANCE. So I made my way to the back, where it was still packed, but there was SOME room. This was my first time every partying back there and was blown away by the light show. I found the asians a little overwhelming so I just pretended I was partying it up in Asia somewhere and all of a sudden it seemed less weird. lol.

I know the mainroom's sound is always bad, but this is by far the worst I have EVER heard. Truly disappointing.

Left shortly after the boys finished.

Although I didnt see as many as you as frequent as I would have liked to (like I said, I couldnt handle the crowds) I had a blast... trance isnt the same without my trance friends.

Jaytech 100/10
Above and beyond 9.5/10
(edit: this is based on my ideal A&B set, not my ideal trance set if that makes any sense)
Crowd - shit
Sound - shit
Friends - In full force

Gosh golly, I had a swell time 8P

Seriously, Jaytech was great and I was thinking at the time that some good shit was coming on early in the night and wondered how the next DJ will follow that. When I came out from one of the other rooms and heard A&B's set I was happy I came back to the main room. As their set progressed it got better and better. I remember when I was up on stage (thanks to Shaya) recording some of their stuff, how energetic and bouncy they were... practically knocking off the monitors as mentioned before. You could tell how much they were enjoying their own music and also being further hyped by the crowd. Later when I was down in the pits grooving with my fellow TA peeps, the crowd was going nuts as the beats got harder and harder. Holy shit I thought the music was good. (BTW I got the last part of when Tim booted someone off the edge of the DJ booth that Kotsy also recorded.) I stayed about 45 minutes into MO's set. He he had some fucking good shit going on, but I was getting tired since I was feeling the effects of partying two nights in a row. I would have stayed longer for sure.

For you guys, I got some good video of the go-go gals too. Man they were looking good... to me anyway. And Sentinel... you should rename yourself and be known as "The Wall"... as I was suggesting on the dance floor... LOL!

Speaking of walls, I remember this big mac truck sized black guy near the DJ booth who had created a "zone of death" around himself. Someone had accidently stepped too close to him when they were going by and he got pissed and told the guy to back the fuck off! What a jerk! I guess the roids were getting to his brain that night. Buddy, don't mix you party drugs with your gym drugs... LOL!

Don't get over excited. It's about 35 min long and my stay on the stage was relatively short compared to other times, but it was still worth it and fun for that short time. I'm also uploading a 10 min ver to Facebook too. If all goes well, they will both be up by tomorrow night.

a bunch of ppl clearly know him based on the comments in the picture thread for above and beyond.

After seeing this video i think its fair that i comment on the fact that he violently threw me down the small flight of stairs behind the bar to the right of the stage as well.

what a giant douche, i approached him to say hello considering i had shared smokes and convos with him while i worked at guv in the past and instead i get tossed like a piece of shit. i didn't really expect him to remember me 100% right away but even if he didn't what he did was just not cool for any reason.

meh

Were you with a girl when you went up on stage???

I also recall Tim trying to get this skasian off the speakers.... again,, not his job!

Jesse you're talking out of your ass...

You ppl haven't a clue as to what his job is or anyone elses for that matter...

It's amazing how many idiots will sneak up on the stage when they see an opening and the talents management starts freaking out...

As for the speakers...it takes one moron to uplug the speaker to wreck it for everyone so I think it is Tims job to keep ppl off of there...

Straight from the main man's mouth: respect the booth. Tim is CONSTANTLY running around. You know the guy definatly earn his paycheque.

Plus I don't know what all the hate is for, he's a SUPER nice guy!!! Maybe he was just in a bad mood, who knows. But seriously guys he's a great guy.

i agree, he is a nice guy! i know that from experience from hanging out with him before and after parties while i was working at the guv, which makes the comment about me not knowing ppls jobs a little ignorant.

all im saying is he must have been in a bad mood you can defend him as being a nice guy all you want, but that night he was clearly not himself or was not treating people the way he treats you. in the example in the video i think he is justified in doing what he did, although it defintintly is a bouncers job, and if they cant handle the traffic then hire more. in my example however i had barely just taken a couple steps up the stairs and had my hand extended out for a handshake when he grabbed the hand and launched me. i was no where near the djs or dj booth!

for arguments sake i think tim should have lowered the dj booth, it didnt seem like above and beyond minded the autographs!

Well I can't comment cause I don't know the scope of the situation, I just don't want people getting the wrong idea about Tim. Hence why I keep repeating that he is a good guy.

I honestly dont know what happened or what preluded to what happened on Kotsy's vid but I know Tim and something must've set him off. But do you seriously want more security there?? Ask Jese how good security is at the Guv

My short n' sweet review...

> got there around 2 - no lineup (yay)!
> what?! no more coat check (boo)! - after being in business for well over a decade, how can they not have anticipated the crowd for this event and not have more coat racks?! People were leaving at that time too so why not just recycle the hangers? Hanging onto a big artic winter coat is a big buzz killer, never mind it reeked of smoke after! Grrrr!!!
> Crowd was awesome and lots of energy - but I've never experienced the main room so packed as it was that night!
> I've seen A&B before but they were never this amazing!
> KILLER light show! Love the big clouds of smoke - it was like being engulfed in a fluffy cloud with rainbows all over!
> Seeing "Fabio" was a bonus - LOL
> Did I mention how much I LOVED the tunes that they pumped out all night loooong?! They are quite the entertainers as well.
> left VERY HAPPY at 5

All top end in the monitors was lost around 3AM. Same thing happened with the front two speakers intermittently. It's about that time that Jeera and I started wondering WTF was going on. Honestly, Tim tried his best to get shit back in order and on some levels he did. So if the man was a little pre-occupied, that's probably why.

Posted by Yohan on Feb-18-2009 19:46:

Tim also helped me get sorted out in Acid Lounge to get me started. I can attest that from what little experience I have with him, he is a good guy

Simple rules when at Guv. Dont do anything you're not suppose to do and you'll be fine most of the time.

Got there around 12ish while Jaytech was spinning. I got into a bit, but to be honest I was too busy thinking and getting excited about Above & Beyond to really listen to his spinning (my bad). I'll have to check out some more of his stuff online.

As everyone's been saying, the crowd was ridiculous. It seemed like everyone had somewhere to go and they had to go RIGHT NOW, cuz they were pushing and shoving to get through most of the time. I was up at the front left where some of the TA's I know reside, but my friends and I really wanted to get the full experience of the light show (which I think we all agree was fantastic), so we headed for the middle. Things seemed to clear up a bit around 2ish and that's when things really hit their stride. Tons of songs to sing along to and great energy from the crowd.

This was my first time seeing Above & Beyond in person, so I'm not as jaded as some of you guys who have seen and heard them play the same stuff several times. My only reasoning for that could be because they don't come here all that often, so they play exactly what they know people are going to like (catering more to the masses than the hardcore). But really, based off of their set, is anyone NOT going to Bal en Blanc this year??
