Visually it was stunning but aside from that i thought it was quite boring, didn't understand what was happening, story was poorly developed and the whole thing was mish mashed from start to finish.

The sex scene's were random and the music didnt work with the scenes.

Also, what was so special about these super hero's anyway?

I loved the gore tho!

Rorschach is the man by the way, coolest mofo in the movie bar none!

And how would that make the movie any better?

wrong.

someone shouldn't have to read the book to fully understand a movie..
...meaning..the director failed.

Saw it yesterday, it was dumb. The only good character in the whole movie was Rorschach. Granted I hate graphic novels so I'm not surprised I disliked it. Unlike 300 this will get worse as time goes by. 300 grows on me every time I watch it.

Yeah fair enough. Oh well, arguing over a movie is stupid, lol. I personally am looking forward to it.

That would be best to check out.

Saw it last night, and I have to say its so long and slow. Now I know that it's not supposed to be a an action movie, but I dunno this movie just blew. There were about 5 points in the movie where it could have ended and I would have been fine, but it just kept on going. And for sure besides Dr. Manhattan nothing was too special about the super heroes.

Also yeah the sex scenes were so random, and added nothing to the movie too.

Saw it. 2 thumbs up from me. Long, but the plot, very very deep. Definitely one of the few truly entertaining movies I'v watched in the last year.

Fixed.

Don't lie!

I'm actually looking forward to the rape scene.

Yeah "I couldn't understand a simple plot... so it's the movie's fault!"

It's Manhattan working on a reactor which will solve the entire world's energy problems and thus, stop nuclear annihilation. If you saw the movie, you would have seen the others kick, basically, everyone's ass that even crossed them. Veidt was also the smartest man in the world.

Yeah, I think we're seeing the problem here. People see "comic book movie" and think it's going to be another Spiderman or X-Men. This is not that kind of comic book movie. If you want to see things getting blown up and people shooting lasers, this is not for you. This is a movie that is about the deconstruction of the hero and the depths of human nature. Sorry that people were disappointed if they expected a popcorn flick.

Wolverine will be out soon enough. (Which I'll also see, btw.)

Oh...and this movie does not have a "simple plot," which is why the graphic novel might help if you had trouble.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Mar-08-2009 01:20:

The COR knows absolutely shit all about films. Or (graphic) novels.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Mar-08-2009 01:22:

Lol @ "simple plot".

Are you trying to say this movie is "deep"?

I don't know about the movie (yet), but the source material definitely is.

Except in the case where everyone thinks this is some big time action super hero movie where good guys fight bad guys and the story ends, when it's the furthest thing from that. If you read the book you'd know that.

It is if you look a little deeper than the comic book exterior...just like the original graphic novel. It's missing some of the nuances you get by reading the original, but the points I can name off the top of my head include;

idealism and its corruption, both in society and the individual
the transience of ideas and culture
moral relativism
the meaning and need for hero
the acceptance and response to human nature

There are plenty more, and I'm sure each person finds their own. So, yes, I would say that the content of the movie could be considered "deep." It's not going to be spoon-fed to you, especially if you're just there for boobs and bombs, but it's most definitely there.

Posted by astroboy on Mar-08-2009 03:06:

I watched the movie last night. I really liked it but maintain the storyline is easy to follow and if someone can't it has nothing to do with the quality of the script or direction.. they're just a dumbass.

While it does have subtext and it's not as infantile as most of the films coming out of Hollywood it still isn't Tolstoy or Shakespeare or Joyce.. it does have a relatively simple plot to follow.

Posted by Renzo on Mar-08-2009 03:26:

I'm waiting to watch this in IMAX.

Right, because Dark Knight (which was incredible) was a popcorn flick about lasers and not in any way about the deconstruction of what it takes to be a hero and the depths of human nature.
Again, I'm not trying to knock the Watchmen as a whole. I just think it probably works great if you've read the book, but for someone who just wants to go out and see a good movie, it leaves a lot to be desired.
And WAY too much blue schlong
