THEY ARE ALL FUCKING SQUATING DOWN TOGETHER LIKE A BUNCH OF SHEEP DUCKS!
Seriously, where the glow sticks and fucking kandi and fluorescent pink and green leg warmers? Fucking shite.

and btw that Abel Ramos video is the most offensive thing I've seen a dj do in a long time. Its a good thing he's far away from the people, most likely out of range of bottles being tossed.

| Originally posted by Clovis I think it has much less to do with being jaded and far more to do with how deep you're into dance music. That and personal taste. If you're REALLY into good cheese the Ralphs brand ultra pasturized factory Brie isn't quite going to be as satisfying as a Camembert you brought back from a farm in France. It's the same way with many things art related. To me thats mostly what matters of taste are too, it's like, what satisfies you? What really intrigues and what doesn't? From movies, to food, to music it's all similar. You can be satisfied with ridiculously formulaic, lazy and predictable dance music, or you can demand better and not settle for less, and not compromise for something that isn't as interesting. I don't think dance music needs to be some ridiculous masterpiece or every track re-invent the wheel, but I do like to keep it at a minimum interesting, even if I can't really describe what that means. Plus, when you're a DJ trying to play what you deem to be the best music out there, the way you think about and consume this music changes a LOT. You need that hunger to always try and find something better and more interesting to really stand out. You compromise less on "ok" tracks..etc. |

lol gustav himself posted this shit up today on ableton forums

| Originally posted by stevsto thanks for that nice response. how ive always seen it, is an analogy to the visual art world. for example, deep underground dance music would be something like: ![]() and DJ Scooter would be: if i were an abstract artist trying to make it in the art world that pulls in a small crowd at cafes and bars, and then i saw some new guy come along and make art that is less abstract but gets the job done and attracts a big crowd ... yea id be pissed too and insult it. |
Yea, lets not forget that the main point to DJ's playing dance music is to get you moving and sweaty and thirsty so you buy beer/alcohol or water.
The original purpose of the DJ is an advertiser of music and services, and very little has changed.
you know.. the majority of this thread is massively elitest.. end of the day.. a DJ is an entertainer.. prodominantly by audio.. but this guy has just added a visual element.. im not a expert on this style of music, but to me it sounds pretty fucking good. who gives a rats ass if all he has done is programmed ableton to be triggered by 2 wiimotes?
the end result [i think] is rather pleasing. besides the guy must be doing something right in order to snatch himself a gig like that.
i beleieve there was a topic a few weeks ago about laptop DJs being boring to look at.. well i guess this is one way of jazzing it up.
i wouldnt say this guy is a pioneer and a fucking god or the new tiesto [fucking hate tiesto btw] hes just making his own take on playing to a crowd.
yeah he looks like a bit of a penis to the majority of us, who let dancemusic overwhelm us and we focus on productions and are so readily focussed on criticising anything new or different. but at the end of the day the crowd seem to like it... so no harm no foul

The fact that it's so gimmicky overpowers any credibility this has for being "new". It's a poor attempt at originality regardless.

just watched this movie again... all gayness aside.. this is fucking good music to me.
i tend to not listen to anything below 150BPM as a rule so am not clued up on all this stuff, what style is this? id like to maybe check a set out of stuff liek this, or perhaps a DJ set from a TA, but as i dont know what style this would be called, i dont know what to look for in 'DJ promotion' section
LOL yeah, go ahead, wave your wii controller around, you look really cool Gustavo
since gustavo is the equivalent of tiesto in the minimal genre, has anyone seen tiesto doing a live performance with wii-motes, or even a midi or something?
ya, i thought so, there another fail to the TO
