Um, excuse me? What are you on mate? Tranceport was near perfection in terms of mixing. If you want bad mixing on a cd check out his Global Underground New York disc 2. Now that was terrible mixing !!

im talking about the near perfect mixing on tranceport. Are there too many 'stereotypical' trance tunes for your 'taste' on tranceport?

Posted by branmuffin on Jun-23-2002 21:58:

you know what? I dont like oakie that much. I dont even think i'd put him on on my list of top 10 dj's... he's a pretty shitty mixer. He's a decent producer, but still, nothign that particularily sings to me, however... .

Its that simple... I dont like him, but it does not affect me in any way shape or form. My life is not going to end because he might have sold out. Geez guys, get a life, and if you dont like him, DONT LISTEN!

I thought this was an open forum...

Well, I was looking for a spot to post my feelings about Oakenfold's new album. This will just have to do, if you don't want to read this post, i guess you can shut your eyes.

After going through the trouble of downloading the track listing at my office, in between dorito snackings, I lugged my laptop ALL the way home, and burned the CD. So, in reference to why this thread was started...bunkka put me to sleep. Literally. After seeing him perform here again in Colorado last weekend, I understand why the flame for oakie has gone out... his tunes are tiring on this album, way too much melody and eerie voices, granted Ready steady go is a sweet tune, but the rest of his stuff kinda lagged. Still a fan of course, but i'm allowed to have an opinion to share...why else did al gore create the internet for?

in 1998-99 he played all the uplifting melodic stuff that everyone else is playing. Mainstream so to speak. Now he moved away from the mainstream and you call him a sellout? But when he was in the mainsteam you call him god? makes no sense to me, none at all.

Shame / Disagreement

hey, i respect oakie to the fullest extent. if you don't like him, i could understand, but you cannot deny the man. the essential mix world tour is one of the most amazing trance acts ever to happen.

even though i dont like his new style, dissapointing me with some tracks like southern sun, to me oakenfold will always be one of the very best in the world. we all talk shit and call him a sellout, say he did sell out, if any of us were offered a buttload of cash to do something we can do, we would just pass it up?

musicians are businessmen, and a business is about pleasing the customer, and oakie has done that various times in the past, and now has decided to take a new approach. he is going into uncharted territory, why is that a bad thing. he happens to be making money off it, well thats just too bad...

just because he's on mtv and more 'mainstream' people are going to buy it, oh, i get it, since you're an elite super uber tranceaddict, it is below your standards, oh you're so cool, i wanna be like you when i grow up...

and becuase he is on mtv he is mainstream, mtv 2 even. Mudvayne won the last MTV II video music award for their video 'dig'. if you dont know who they are, just download the song. if you call that mainstream, go to an ear doctor. mtv 2 was created so not mainstream acts could get some air time. maybe thats not what has happened, but hell, itd be great for all good trance producers to get some airtime, reach all their fans all over the world. if trance was a worldwide thing, maybe it would even reach my country and id get to see a show every now and then...

remember, no one is forcing you to like him, but if you don't, that doesn't mean he's bad. and we're ones to talk, like we're such great producers and DJs. the man is getting down, doing his thing, no one can blame him for that. that hes rolling in big money for it, well now what is the point of selling songs? if ANY musician (all the way from U2 to PVD) was in it just for the music, CDs would be, what, a dollar a piece, just to cover the material used for the recordings. and the RIAA and other bastardly evil association would also die. so the bottom line is, and musician that sells CDs is also a sell out if you want to call them that. if everyone on this earth lothed trance in general, not even half of you oakie bashers would listen to it.

so.... JUST SHUT UP!

Posted by AnGeLicK on Jul-22-2002 20:52:

not another oaky bashing thread...don't you people have anything better to do?

Posted by Greedy on Jul-22-2002 22:15:

Dont bash Oakie. Hes prolly starting a new generation of music. It might not sound good to us right now, but after some time, producers will catch on and produce some sick tracks.
BTW Oakie still sells out every venue he goes to.
