Sorry you guys missed it.

Before I make the drawing a few thoughts on the Deep Techno business. Sorry if it seemed that Techno was treated unfairly. But I feel the choice was right, seeing that the topic spawned a 4 page long discussion with no clear consensus. Something like that happening after some poor sod draws the genre is what I totally want to avoid.
So yeah, the correct description of various subgenres is a difficult thing, and making a decision without knowing much about a certain one is even more difficult for me.

Chicago / Detroit House? I can live with that.

Posted by chesco on May-02-2009 14:58:

Hmmmz progressive trance, my least favourite type of trance..

Shouldn't be too difficult to put a mix together tho..

Posted by Adam420 on May-02-2009 15:33:

I'm pretty happy about what I got...I've been wanting to explore that genre and now have the chance to do so.

Hardstyle, sweet

Just to get things straight, Cosmic Gate stuff from around 1998 isn't exactly hardstyle, right. I should be looking more in the direction of things Luna and Pavo spin/spun? Other dj's or artists I should look into?

Check out the tunes and artists on StraightOn Black, Luna's more techno-edged label. It does away with all the screechy synths in favor of chunkier beats, which are good to mix with.

Remember, there's gotta be at least one Dr. Alban track in your mix..

No seriously, I'm stoked to hear what you come up with.

As for my own draw, I haven't listened to d&b in ages, and I know nothing about mixing techniques when it comes to that genre. This will be awesome.

Posted by montana on May-02-2009 17:57:

you are going to hear three alban tracks.

Posted by ZeJayMan on May-02-2009 18:01:

lol ghettotech, this should be fun.

Posted by enydo on May-02-2009 19:03:

Deep House, neat.

Posted by Mr Game+Watch on May-02-2009 20:02:

Hmm, I made a tribal house mix YEARS ago just for fun, too bad I still don't have it... but this is cool, I should be able to whip something up that's fairly decent, definitely gonna aim for an '02 style Lawler set.

Yeah, I'd consider Cosmic Gate from that perioud as hard trance, but yes Luna, Pavo, Lady Dana, Deepack, Showtek, Technoboy, Thilo & Evanti, Brennan Heart and Headhunterz are a few off the top of my head. Check labels Qdance, Scanntraxx, Freaky Records, Fusion, Dutch Master Works, Midify Records (M!D!FY), Seismic Records, Saifam (S.A.I.F.A.M.), Titanic Records, Straight On recordings, Astral Music, Hitland, Edinet, Kattiva, Mythica, X-rate, Blutonium. Should get you sorted

Tech house? Tech house? Of all the weird and wonderful genres in there, I got tech house. The most trendy, in vogue, du jour, predictable, bland and uninteresting four on the floor plodfest in electronic music. I'd have loved to try out mixing drum 'n bass. I could have hammered the early 90s hardcore. I'll take any excuse to dig around in dubstep a little more. But no. I got tech house. Fuck.

Nice description there!
Gotta say I would have have been disaponted drawing tech house, not coz I don't like it, I do but have been playing this stuff for a while now and am happy to try something else for now. I'm stoked actually to draw psytrance. Always enjoyed the genre, although never pursued it seriously, but have a bit of stuff that I'd like to make a mix with. I guess that's the luck of the draw though. Here's some new stuff mabey you could check out.

Lutzenkirchen - Looptrack - Platform B
Alf Deep - Tosse (LFO+ Remix) - Trendteck Records
Radio Slave - Koma Koma - Rekids

Fuck man, just because you got tech house it doesn't mean you can't dig and play interesting and obscure records. You just sound bitter because you got a genre you don't like. Listen to elFreak and RJT sets to hear it done properly.

When i got picked to do eurodance i was fairly pleased since i love this music, it's the greatest style of dance music known to man after disco. I play eurodance quite fast in both ways (pace & trackselection) since i think it's more fun this way. normally i don't even do much than a 4bar transition but there is more actual mixing on this.

there is some vocaloverlapping on this and so is some synth on synth overloading but i tried as much as possible to minimise both. I also tried to steer away from using as much of the big anthems as possible. if you feel the need to hear 'what is love' or 'rhythm is a dancer' or 'mr. vain', go on youtube instead. I also wanted to play some of the lesser known tracks and a number of my personal favourites.

Basd, i played three alban tracks but bear in mind there was a challenge of working in the tracks i like the most since both 'it's my life' and 'look who's talking' are housebased and so are their remixes.

Anyhow, enjoy the musics.

Posted by Meat187 on May-03-2009 12:43:

wtf, man!? That's gotta be the fastest submission ever.
Tracklist looks sweet, I'll give this a listen when I have time.

Posted by montana on May-03-2009 12:52:

yeah but i loves the eurodance and can do a mix quite easy

Haha, I feel your pain. You're gonna have a massive challenge in attempting to stand out in the myriad of slow techno mixes that sound more or less interchangeable with tech house these days.

If you want some inspiration, I recommend Craig Richards' Essential Mix from '04:

Craig Richards - Essential Mix 20.06.04

Automat - Nematod (Scsi-Av)
Sweet 'n Candy - Abflug Zu 64 (Lebensfreude)
Dandy Jack & Les Fleurs Du Mal - Le Serpent Qui Danse (Telegraph)
Panash - Cheval (Atavisme)
Headcore - Down (Versatile)
Pysan - Tha Norm (Bittersweet)
Ozy - Imaginary Rock Star Syndrome (Trapez)
Jeff Samuel - Maru (Deep Night)
Swag - Drum Hydraulics (Soul Capsule Remix) (Tyrant)
Ratio - Motorcity (Daniel Bell Remix) (Central)
Robag Wruhme - Jena Makks (Minor Modern)
St. Plomb - A Bat In My Shoe (Mental Groove)
Thomas Brinkmann - Nauten (Max Ernst)
Sand 11 - Next Bus (Ladomat 2000)
Ellen Allien - Astral (BPitch Control)
Mike Ink - Playing With Knives (Kompakt)
Basteroid - Nerd With A Bird (Sender)
Alter Ego - Mensa (Klang Elektronik)
Motor - 1.1 (Salo)
D.Diggler - Womanizer (Raum...Musik)
Brtschitsch & Galluzzi - Blaulicht (Taksi)
Joel Mull - Check The Vibe (Plumphouse)
Attila Jahanvash - Like A Virgin (Z-Schallplatten)
Dr. Shingo - The Whiteroad (Art Of Perception)
Pom Pom - Untitled (Pom Pom 009)
The Unknown Soldier - Hesitation (UR)
Arpanet - Wireframe Images (Record Makers)
Delon And Dalcan - Dunufus (Boxer Sport)
Fregna - The Age (Pigna)
Basteroid - Against Luftwiderstand (WeltZwei Remix) (Areal)

It avoids becoming too plodding and bland, and is still quite bouncy and danceable. It just needs some Swayzak.
