well shit, this sucks.

I used audiogalaxy to download full rips of vinyls that I wanted so I can hear the whole song if I were to order online. Now thanks to RIAA (who claims mp3s affect sales negatively), my record purchases have just been shot down by a tonfold since some sites only offer samples not the full songs. RIAA is one of the worst cockheaded elephant-butt blind idiotic organizations to ever be formed.

ag was closed as it was breaking the law, simple as that. if you lot really want the music that bad, then stop crying and get ur self down to a record store

"All you can do at a time like this is laugh"

I'm not laughing!

RIP Audiogalaxy
Whoever the owners were you were the coolest dudes on the planet! I have nothing best respect for you and nothing but hate for the RIAA!

In this situation, the sensible man would realise that the targets of the RIAA are large organisations that provide a server for the public's use.

So, AG has all its servers in one place, and the satellite knows instantly where to connect to, downloads start nice and quickly. But it can be targeted.

As I say, the sensible man would realise that similar services like Kazaa (bleugh) will also be targeted very quickly.

So the best solution is ... go for a service that really is distributed over everywhere. That means something like DirectConnect or eDonkey. Personally I use eDonkey.

There is a drawback to these distributed services, that you must find servers yourself, and these often only run for a few days at a time... however I think this is no problem as there are quite a good few coordinated ServerLists floating around. I've managed to find tons of fantastic stuff over the donkey already.

Did anybody else here really like AG's lovely search facility? It was fantastic, and I don't like the search facility of Kazaa, for example. There are loads of cataloging websites that provide identifying links for files all over the web. And I'm sure that ain't illegal.

Think of this from the RIAA's point of view: People are starting up and shutting down file sharing servers all over the globe, all the time ... how on earth do you trace or police that? You can't, quite simply. They would probably attempt to stop use of the client program altogether, but once it's out then there's not much stopping it.

I still stand by my decision that using Kazaa is like living in the house built on sand, since that will be under fire soon enough as well. Time for a proper distributed server, I reckon. Maybe the future role of trancEaddict.com will be an indexing service?

Let's hope this post doesn't go unnoticed in the barrage of anti-RIAA flame...

HACKERS!! ATTENTION!!

hehehehe... Rememeber how ages ago when AG blocked loads of songs and someone worked away around the X's and we could send stuff to our groups, why cant someone work a way of hacking into the system, I mean when I look at my own tracks and i click on one of my own song, I can see there are lots of other people with it (does that make sense)

anyway all the tracks are still online, their server is still running.... just got to work a way around getting the music.... nothing is impossible

Posted by fate on Jun-18-2002 11:44:

ahhh
that sucks big time
if the music industry thinks i go out and start buying cd/vinyls or anything other theyre even more stupid than I thought.

Posted by Apoptosis on Jun-18-2002 11:48:

I bet those same RIAA fucko's were using AudioGalaxy or other download programms themselves!! You can't tell me they NEVER downloaded a song... Damn hypocrite cocksuckers!!

*PISSED*

Excuse me?!?!?! Surely people buy the vinyls they really like but you can't possibly buy ALL the stuff including the ones u only like a littlebit!!

What do you think, (most) people aren't filthy rich!! I myself have spent a fortune on vinyls, but just can't keep up with it financially... as goes for a lot of people. You gotta make priorities, some tracks you buy, some tracks you download....

And furthermore... over 85% of the vinyls I have, I first got on mp3, so don't talking about that 'taking-away-the-profit-BS'!!

*Still PISSED*

Evil1

DAMMIT!!!!!I KNEW this would happen sooner or later.RIAA are too greedy to just sit and watch AG deliver such a great filesharing service without them getting any profit from it.Greedy assholes!!!!!

quote:
This is a victory for everyone who cares about protecting the value of music," Hilary Rosen, chairman and chief executive officer of the RIAA, said in a statement.

"protecting the value of music" my ass. This is ridiculous.Like they care about the artists who lost money on this. Why should they?85% of those artists are all bloated with millions of $$$ already!!!!No,this whole thing is all due to their own f*cking greed.

Jon, Jon, jon, Jon !!!! How stupid can u really be ? mp3's help to promote music and despite what idiots like you think it is infact detrimental to genres such as trance to close down AG, Napster etc because they help to promote trance. I myself would not have discovered trance were it not for the Napster and have gone on to buy many tarnce cd's as a result.I download mp3's and if i like it i usually buy a compilation with the track on it.

Actually i do not even know why idiots like yourself fall for the rhetoric that music companys pump into the media ie "it hurts cd sales". who gives a stuff they earn enough money anyway those tight arse freaks!!Also that crap about "against the law"- you idiot.why the fuck are you even on this site if u feel that way about mp3's

I nearly fell off my chair when I read this, the official word of the RIAA. This is what they think:

"This should serve as a wake-up call to the other networks that facilitate unauthorised copying,"

LMAO, they couldn't be more wrong.

you can't just hack into the IRRA system. you have to know where it is for a start, what info they have there that is actually of any use. An nice DoS atack would be nice if they have a website
or if anyone has any IRRA server ip or something..
i'm sure somebody had already started on this feat right now....
lets wait and see..

sorry my comments wer not aimed at people who donwload mp3's but the people who whine about audiogalaxy closing and are to lazy ot bother about finding other sources, i mean this morning ive found 3 ftp's from friends of friends who are all happy for me to use, as well as a couple of irc channels. my point is why do people think its teh end of the world??? look what happened to napster, it went and audiogalaxy came, now asuiogalaxy is gone something else will replace it, what makes me sick is the amount of people not searching for sources of music but asking, i wasnt slaggin off the mp3 system as i do aggree with try before you buy etc as well as livesets

and in respose to my comemtns about it being against the law, it is, hence why audiogalaxy and napster close, not taking sides jsut stating facts.

quote:
why the fuck are you even on this site if u feel that way about mp3's

umm i always thought that tranceaddict was more than sharing mp3's correct me if imm wrong, i mean ive made about 10-15 good friends when ive been to gatcrasher with other ukta's and even more over the summer.

Posted by DJDavidScott on Jun-18-2002 13:10:

Truth!

Jon, Good words my friend. You are right, but keep in mind the shock factor of the events in the last 24 hours. AG capabilities surpassed those of Napster by a mile. For now, this news is very detrimental to those people that depend on AG for music. Unfortunately, in our genre of music, downloading and sharing is a big part. Since electronic music is constantly growing, the need to for music is almost necessary on a daily basis. One day of no downloads is a missed day of new music! That is a scary thought to many. Of course a new way will be found and respected as much as AG, but for now, that is hazy! Let's all find it and get back on track!

Posted by OLDoMiNiON on Jun-18-2002 13:14:

... i never used audio galaxy again [except for the new EM's every week] once i had Direct Connect. it's better then AG was imo..

At the end of the day, over 90% of mp3s are illegal, no consent given by record labels, I do use mp3 to spread my music and DJ sets, but all this whine whine poo poo coz AG has died, my heat fukkin bleeds waa waa , its not just like sum1 has just cut off ur nob ffs. And TA ain't just for sharing mp3s, hence that is why there is a forum, which I use relatively less of than I used to, namely the dj + production section, new releases, and the uk forum. And as Jon says there are lots of people who have made friends from tranceaddict, well that happens in the UK and Canada atleast. And at the end of the day, I bet u own less than a tenth of your mp3 collection, which u must like as it has remained on your hard drive.

Tranceaddict Direct Connect HUB!!!

Jesus. Just look at how many people were in the three tranceaddict groups on AG. There was like 200-300 people!

ATM there is 23 users logged in. Most of which are on Permanment connections.

ONLY 23 USERS BUT A MASSIVE 415.17 GB shared!

Based on averages using this, if 250 members joined... that would mean a huge

4510.86 GIGS OF TRANCE would be available....
