Just a related question, how many VSTs do you usually end up layering to get the sound you want? I've hardly spent any time trying to put VSTs together to get a unique sound, so if you have any tips on what to do that would be great.

Thanks,

This is without question the best 303 emulator ever made. When running it up against my real 303, it's almost indistinguishable.

Massive... this is power!!! Novation.. i would like to get a hold of that. and Absyth is really a powerful stuff. kool!! same goes to atmospheric.

The VSTi are just getting me crazy each and everytime... its the matter of money now. DAMN!

Can some teach me. for the bassline, how does it work with Cubase?

You can run it in either pattern mode or note mode. In pattern mode, you program it basically exactly like the real 303 - which can be kind of tricky. In note mode, you play it like any other VSTi. You set accents with velocity and slides just by overlapping notes. All the knobs can be controlled really easily.

Rasta rgcAudio Z3ta+

First up, excellent review by one Mr Peter Campbell...very extensive and thorough; helpful to most!

I would just like to mention that Z3ta+ has been by far the most useful and productive softsynth I've ever used.

Definitely worth a look; filthy...if you like that kinda thing

Posted by DRM on Jan-18-2004 23:22:

after looking through and reviewing a lot of synths, i have found absynth, z3ta and atmosphere def the best for making any type of sound you want

V-Station is THE tool for creating fat basslines.

Posted by DNA_pl on Jan-27-2004 13:30:

For me the best means - rgc z3ta+. i think it's most usefull softsynth ever. also patches made by community are great (ie. virus mod - you can get it from kvr-vst.com).

i love freeware superwave p8 - great for pads (like ie. rank 1). supersaw rocks

Idunno, I disagree.. I think that the VStation bass frequency capabilities are minimal. Granted, with effect processing and mastering you can achieve the desired sound, but I felt that its bass potential was fairly thin sounding. The VStation was somewhat a letdown for me. The frequency response and output were minimal compared to the hard synth. It's about 1/4th as warm, and it just doesnt really cut it when it comes to producing warm vibrant voices. At the some 400$ or so cost, when comparing to a used but mint condition SNII on Ebay for like 600-800, it just doesn't add up to a good purchase.

Then again in contrast to most overything out there availible for PC production it tends to drab many others in comparison.

Despite my grumbles, I really do end up using this VSTi anyway.

On another note.. I didn't catch if anyone mentioned Isotope Ozone here yet, I'd like to say though... That this could be the final missing polish for alot of amateurs out there.. For an all-In-One realtime mastering prog, it's fantastic. absulutely fantastic, and for the new kids, don't worry whatsoever, its all super visual, theres nothing to really learn as long as your ears are finely tuned : )

P.S. (Isotope Ozone will make that VStation F*ing HUMMM).

There ya go.. My 3 unwated cents. : )

I've been checking out z3ta+ and it's very nice indeed... Also worth checking out is Steinberg's D'cota. Pretty good for atmospheric pads etc... has an excellent sound quality, too. For more info, click HERE

i have to say pro 53 is my favourite VST at the moment and I have tried nearly all listed here, I just love it's sound, it's perfect for anything, and it uses hardly any CPU!

Read This!

Great thread alot great info. Question: on the Pro 53 and fm7, it seems to be a delay when i am playing the keys. I have seen it somewhere, and i been looking all over. Someone had mention this before. What do i need to adjust, so when i play the keys will follow up to speed to what i am playing? i know its something simple sorry but thanks .

you need to either buffer length or your latency amount.. it depends on whether or not your sound card supports ASIO.. and if it does support ASIO, turn it on..

But they are synthedit, which IMHO is kinda nasty, they don't feel.. right.

Oh, and don't direct link to other people's images, host them on your own space, otherwise that is bandwidth stealing.

Just got a chance to try out the Z3ta+, and it rocks! Incredibly easy to use, excellent synthesis quality, lots of different built-in effects and filters...basically controls galore, but set up in an easy to use fashion.

Well despite the fact that they're linked from the creator's site, praise IS being given....which is word-of-mouth advertising. I'm not the designer, but if someone linked images from my site of a synth I created and gave it praise, I wouldn't mind. Word of mouth is the best kind of advertising there is.
