Last week at King King was the first I've ever had the honor of seeing him in person.

Loved every minute of it.

It's so nice to see a DJ completely focused on his craft instead of jumping all over the place like an idiot. He wasn't just mixing either he was looping, sampling and using effects like a mad man but never once was it all cluttered or sound out of sync within the context of the set.

He let his music do the talking as every DJ should.

I would be more than willing to go out of my way to see him again.

well... im afraid to say it but.. i kinda enjoyed this mix which means even today, in late 2009, in the time of ubershit EDM, James Holden still decently holds his ground

Why would you be afraid to say it?

Another Holden set, this time from NeoPop in Portugal. Looking for tracklist. Anyone?

Posted by alcalaholic on Sep-11-2009 18:54:

A little off topic, but I've been looking for this song for 2 years now. Anyone have any idea? I think this is such a cool unique track.

Sounds like a typical "The Field" or "DJ Koze" track to me.

Maybe a Holden edit?

Balance 005 and Ogenki Clinic material first of all, but almost anything not too recent is fucking class.

James Holden studio

the guy is a genius, without a doubt

Posted by Schizophrenia on Sep-17-2009 21:18:

he's got to be one of the most influential producer/DJs that has changed and expanded my tastes to techno/IDM/experimental stuff. I wouldn't have known a lot of awesome artists without listening to his mixes. Loved his pixie trance era and also his new take on music. I would almost always find a song staying on my mind whenever I listen to a new holden set. Too bad I only seen him once and that was in 2004. and imo one of his most exciting times of his career. His djing and track selection was superb and nothing that seemed like what many people said. Love his works on Sky Was Pink, Nothing, Come to Me, The Wheel, Safari, Better Make Room. The guy doesn't really intend on coming to Asia ever since 2004 except Japan.

holden

listening to balance 005 at the moment and fortune telling fish, curled to suggest home always gives me freaking goosebumps every single time!

he was great at incognito on sept 4th! his electric zoo set was too short but just as good. nathan fake was just as good at zoo!

edit: my love, well former i guess since we decided to go our own way after holden last week. malcolm middleton's solumn thirsty on at the controls comes into mind, "you go your way, and I'll go mine" had the most adorable dance for a break in the clouds and drew my TA avatar (larger image: http://rizo.ws/misc/jp09.jpg)

I thought I was the only one! Haha yeah same here. Just when you think Outhouse is going to be the most banging song of the mix, FortDax drops in with a breakdown more epic than any trance song. Love the muffled vocals. What a cool track.

Ha, already been mentioned like a million times:

Balance 005

For those who don't have it, here's a link to his 2002 EM.

http://tedpromo.com/Essential%20Mix...es%20Holden.mp3

that's when Holden was producing really interesting tracks. The first hour or so is tremendous.

I appreciate especially the soundwork. Up to the time "The Idiots are Winning" was released is where all the bomb stuff lies - tracks, mixes.

Something broke in this guy afterward.

Posted by s0ar on Sep-23-2009 21:56:

i knew james was pretty damn awesome for a while now cause ive listened to nothing/bloodlock/various remixes (into the dawn/der klang der familie/horizons), but just recently ive listened to balance 005, fear of a silver planet and his ogenki clinic stuff. 'do what you want' onwards on cd1 of balance 005 stands out for me, and 'one for you' and the ogenki clinic stuff are absolutely brilliant.

also found this ages ago: http://forums.di.fm/shameless-self-...s-holden-58898/
(if the download link doesnt work you can probably find the set off google and such. apologies if its been mentioned before)

Posted by OkiDokie on Sep-24-2009 21:28:

I saw him live in Montreal a couple of weeks ago....the first hour or so was pretty good...but after two hours James was wasted lol and the music quality wasn't the same. Anyway, was the first time I saw him live, and I would give it a 7/10

Ohhh and btw, he played a lot of old tunes...like really, a lot of old tunes
