tbh Jay I dunno if it will be a bad deal for the leafs. It's a big one for sure, but at the end of the day I've seen in many sports people move to new pastures & come out fighting and he has the talent to do it, so it's mental/attitude.

lol @ "skating"

jokinen -> nyr

whatevs, he's sucked hard this season. maybe a change could do him good.

the leafs got the best player of the deal in phaneuf, so in a way they win.

the way that they lose is that they still have salary cap problems to fill the holes in their roster at forward. the leafs will be a team that misses the playoffs for the next few years with a better defense/goalie.

instead of losing 5 to 1 they will lose 3 to 1.

who do they have up front?

the answer is simple...no one.

they don't have the cap room to go after a big player..and even if it did it takes more than one guy to carry an offense.

The marlies (the farm team) is among the worst in the AHL...so youth isn't going to help. They don't even have any first round picks for the next 2 years.

i heard about this too, but nothing is confirmed.

the poor guy never seems to be on a playoff team (well except for last year.)...I don't know if the rangers will make it to be honest.

One thing i know for sure is that my habs won't

We were able to get rid of Blake and Toskola, Leafs win.

Posted by Schadenfreude on Feb-03-2010 23:56:

so who gets kovalchuk?

Posted by Renzo on Feb-05-2010 04:42:

Devils are now a better team. Kovalchuk is a huge add.

they got a bit better on d and got a decent prospect plus picks.

one of the prospects is banned from playing another game in the junior leagues, so we might actually see him sooner than later. I think he will be in the AHL but you never know.

here is the hit.

The Thrashers go less than what i thought they would according to the rumours going around the league last week, but for a rental the price was not as steep . In a 30 team NHL, if you think you have a real shot of winning, you have to go for it, because it does not happen often anymore.

Halak > Kovy

i bet anything he wins player of the week...AGAIN, if the Habs win this afternoon...for sure if they beat Pittsburgh tomorrow.

in his last 2 games he has 90 saves on 94 shots...insane. Slovakia will go far in the Olympics if he plays like this. Just wow

Habs suck...

Posted by Schadenfreude on Feb-06-2010 23:10:

we just beat who?

sorry bam

Posted by verndogs on Feb-07-2010 03:40:

stuff I've learned from watching a Habs game at the Bell Centre

1. Howie Morenz is the one of the most important players in NHL history
2. When you become a Habs legend you are remembered approximately 87293847928472973 times in the building
3. The Rangers suck (Habs won 6-0)

PS: Fairmount Bagels > St. Viateur Bagels

Posted by Schadenfreude on Feb-07-2010 08:25:

glad you had fun(i'm guessing here, if you can't get laid in mtl...don't bother going to vegas), you should have told me you were in town, i could have got you a private tour.

rangers do suck even if they beat the devils

Habs = Yankees...i've been to Yankee Stadium...Morenz is not quite Babe Ruth (that would be Maurice Richard)...but think of him as DiMaggio. He dies young. Next time in Mtl visit his grave site for interesting graffiti from the past.

fairmount does win...and admit they are better than NYC style bagels...amirite?

ps we are so much louder than at the Garden....admit it

24 cups vs 2 for your team

nhl isn't even 100 years old.

smiley overload...too much St - Laurent tonight.

oh I'll come back to Montreal (any excuse to go back is good enough for me) ...I'll let you know when.

Fairmount Bagels > NYC Bagels

I came back home with 2 bags of bagels from both Fairmount and St. Viateur :P

to the first part...Rask was outstanding. He stole the game and the B's got a few lucky bounces aka 2 own goal tips from shit habs d men.

second part..i was just poking fun because we beat the pens and i was pretty damn surprised about it.

we beat the capitals? what?

i was at the game and still can't believe it.

big win...we have so many games in hand that if we wanted to make the 2nd season this was it.

in the last 2 weeks, we beat the devils, the penguins, and the capitals...what the fuck is going on

win streak? over.

The Habs are a very strange team.

At least the NY Rangers make logical sense. We just suck

Posted by Schadenfreude on Feb-11-2010 18:51:

we have so many injuries right now that it is pretty amazing that we were able to end the caps streak.

we are a very strange team...i think the habs only show up when they face big teams and take the lower ones for granted and muff games.

in the last month the habs have beaten:

the devils
the canucks
the penguins
the capitals

price sucked last night, but the habs somehow managed to do it. I'm not going to be too optimistic, but if they can start being consistent, get healthy, keep the pp among the best in the nhl (which is how we kill teams the most) and halak keeps it up we might (might is the key word here) be a tough team in the playoffs.

i didn't think the habs would make the playoffs last week, but they managed to win games i didn't think they would.

if we can close out the home and home with philly before the break with at least 2pts, we are sitting pretty...4 would just be cake.

rumour has it that the habs are looking to make a depth player acquisition before the deadline...they are going to need it.

Pouilot
Bergeron
Cammilieri are all out until march.

A Kostitsyn looks like he will be back soon, so that is good news.

Rangers have Lunqvist...the biggest reason they are still in the hunt. The rest of the team is just weird...Glen Sather is a horrible gm. How he has kept his job for this long amazes me.

http://www.montrealgazette.com/spor...3234/story.html

a great read even if you are no a habs fan about a modest and quiet young guy who goes about his work in a way usually reserved for someone much older and more mature.

Posted by epicaricacy on Mar-10-2010 19:50:

habs are going full clip now...man when cammilieri comes back i think we will beat the caps in the first round if we keep playing like this

Posted by Ian on Mar-11-2010 09:31:

that would be my nightmare. Invariably whoever creeps into 8th usually does so as a team in form so being number 1 seed is never a good thing. However we just have to believe and see where it goes. It won't be anything short of exciting whatever happens.
