ERP is the basic infrastructure to any B2B business regardless of the product. We have a very distinct BPM defined process for delivering content, product, and digital product to all of our distribution. I doubt it's the most efficient, but it's a large step from where we were 2 years ago. We have 2 third party vendors that we use to CRM our digital assets.

I'v been working on competitive pricing plans for education ebook product within the Higher Education and Professional Learning domains. The worst part is getting the analytical data to make those price point adjustments and determine marketshare amongst digital product. There is technical no POS / Sell Through for a product that is not palpable, so coming up with unique reports is tasking.

pretty sure the current project is for your company, the global e-com site going to regional ERP back ends? I'm working on the interface for the Aus/Singapore and India systems, starting in Aus.
A lot of the publishers in Aus now go through Pearson and 1 or 2 other majors for distriution, so they may be doing something in-house to work for the others.
Normally we'll just process the order and do the debtors, the front end and electronic distribution is handled externally, but really few of the publishers have got anywhere near that point. they are still trying to figure out pricing, people don't appreciate how little of the cost of a book is the physical printing, so showing value on the e-copy is hard.

I know Apple are getting flamed to hell with the iPad but there is a Market for this such as the older generation of adults that don't have a laptop or computer that just need to send a email or google something basic.

Does it need HDMI output ? not really...Does it need Multi-tasking no it doesn't as if you have a web-based email account you can simply access your mail through a browser also google docs for word and excel etc...the iphone doesn't have Multi tasking and thats popular...

Posted by tubby on Jan-29-2010 12:29:

Let's face it. Put an apple logo on a turn and it will sell to some folks. They already know exactly what is in ipad 2.0 to sell to the non fan-boys. It's marketing strategy and little substance.

Yeah, we need that getmycock's review on this. No doubt he's got some buttplug that can do it better. What an ass. I hear he sleeps with his dog.

Can people explain why they think that the iPhone is the shittiest phone?

and I am not pointing fingers at you Moongoose

It's because they just can't be mainstream in ANYTHING. They got small cock syndrome and need to prove their phone is 0.13 times faster and has a better camera to capture the beautiful moments of mundane life.

It's a phone, it does what it does well, despite what they say. It kicks arse and looks good, but because it isn't pimped like an alienware computer, and don't look shit, they cry about it.

Posted by echosystm on Jan-30-2010 07:41:

I don't like iPhones because they are made by Apple. The product itself is fairly decent, I just don't want to be associated with all the gay Apple fanboys.

I think there is a world market for about five of these

Posted by weymouth on Jan-30-2010 16:47:

I was waiting for the iPad introduction before buying an e-reader. Been wanting to jump into the e-reader market for awhile now and decided with a Nook over this and the Kindle because of a few features I like on it better.

As a person that has had to move about 6 times in the past 10 years I find the idea of e-books amazing. Nothing sucks more than moving my book collection.

Granted we are getting to the point where collections are becoming digital 0's and 1's in devices and storage. Eventually I won't know what to put on my book shelves. Movies, music, and books are all on hard drives. It took me awhile to embrace digital downloads with music so I'm jumping headfirst into the e-book market at the beginning.

Once everything is on hard drives I hope that people at lease make cool screens that I can hang on the wall or on a shelf that would cycle through the covers of my music, movies, and books. Imagine all the jobs that will be lost if all consumable media becomes digital.

Deja-vu?

Posted by yujie__ on Jan-30-2010 22:55:

I would rather have an iPad Nano with calling and camera feature

Posted by jupiterone on Jan-31-2010 00:56:

wait so does this actually support flash now?

or did they just basically sit down for 5 minutes and say, "lets just make the ipod bigger and give it some ram, processing power, and a bigger hard drive."

seriously don't see why anyone would buy this, really don't

Posted by Fledz on Jan-31-2010 05:46:

If you buy the Gen 1, knowing that a Gen 2 will be out within a year with all the features that should have been there in the first place, you're a certified grade A idiot.

This is such a colossal disappointment when you think about what it could have been. If it didn't have an Apple logo, it would be suicide to release this and that's probably the saddest part about all this.

I agree for the most part. People who own most apple products by in large are young professionals with the dollar to spend and the need to impress, it's a status symbol mostly. However, compare this to other similar devices and Apple have produced something that does look better, has a far better build quality. This world is all about image, we all know this.

Why buy Microsoft's slate when it looks terrible and is probably built like a cheap acer laptop, when you have enough money to buy something that looks good?

The points most people make (even getmuntzel, who makes excellent arguments, but by god do I dislike the twat) are very valid, but like everything in the world it boils down to image.

Would you fuck a woman who had a degree in medicine, healthy as a horse, and knew all the rules to your favourite sporting event, but looked like she was made from Microsoft? Nope.

Smoking hot brunette with no brains and tits big enough to ski down? Yep. Probably.

Posted by Fledz on Jan-31-2010 12:41:

Well, I would fuck the brunette then run before she wakes up or maybe keep her on my phone for the occasional bit of fun, probably be very good friends with the ugly but smart chick and then eventually find a chick which is both hot, smart and successful

Posted by Jake Benson on Jan-31-2010 13:03:

Introducing iPad: Something to keep stupid middle class wives occupied so they can lounge outside their two-story homes sipping tea and shot of wine while cropping their children's photos all day. It's pre-gen 1 now and just looks like it should have come out back in 2007, but one day it will be able to support Logic Pro, Final Cut, and actually work with flash. But until 2012 comes we'll just have to watch people who have a lot of cash and just don't know any better waste their money on this crap.

Thing is if those things exist, there is no market for new products. At least not until something worth upgrading to comes along. Sure, technology moves fast, but if Apple loaded the original iPhone with everything first gen, would they have such profit? Nope, can we blame a business for wanting to make as much money as possible? Nope.

Can we blame man for wanting to sex only hot women? Maybe. Don't quote me on that.

Jobs is probably waiting to skip Flash altogether and use HTML5.

and he really seems to dislike Adobe

quote:
Jobs also singled out Adobe, calling the company "lazy" because, in his opinion, "they have all this potential to do interesting things but they just refuse to do it." Jobs also criticized Flash for being buggy. When a Mac crashes, it's usually because of Flash, he reportedly told the crowd. "The world is moving to HTML5," he said.

and this made me lol:

quote:
That "Don't be evil" slogan Google's known for? "Bullshit" Jobs said, after which he was reportedly rewarded with a big round of applause from the gathered throng of Apple employees.
