| Originally posted by The Highroller Great review. Glad you had fun, and even more glad that SOMEONE stayed until the end. Good job. ![]() Bal en Blanc really is something every partier in Canada should experience at least once. I'm not surprised you didn't like Morales. Knowing the kind of music you hate, I don't think liking a Morales set is possible for you lol (he plays LOTS of diva vocals). Also, Montreal parties are definitely as sketchy as Toronto parties. You must have been wearing dark sunglasses. |

There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said so here's a watered down, 5-day late review
The trip to montreal started with giving a homeless guy a hit of a joint while waiting at a red light. After a long, hazy 6 hour drive we arrived in montreal around 9, hung out at the hotel for an hour and got in line (no v.i.p. for this poor soul
) I wish I could've made the dinner pre-meet but shit happens. Waited for an hour and 45 minutes, during which time I went to the convenient store 3 times to buy food as it'd be the last time eating for 13 hours. Probably one of the worst pre-packaged subs I've ever eaten
Checked out the house room first off to meet up with some TAs. Caesar was playing some nice warm up tech. The perfect music to start my night off. After 45 minutes we headed to the trance room to see Infected Mushroom. My third time seeing them and it seemed pretty stale. You've seen them once, you've seen them enough. Having said that, I still enjoyed it for 15 minutes or so. The countdown to SvD was on...
Sander came on to a ridiculous intro (check the videos if you weren't there). The boombox is alive! GREAT FUCKING JEBUS CHRIST! Although we were too close to get the full experience I was still blown away. I remember being disappointed at BeB two years ago for not having lasers. I never thought I'd say this but there is something cooler than lasers
There were a tonne of great tracks through the set but the flow was lacking. Definitely wasn't a bad set, but not great either. I'm still really excited for May 1st @ Guv!
At the risk of sounding redundant, Ferry was the highlight of the fucking night! I fully expected an amazing set.. but goddamn. I think it's safe to say he went above and beyond ALL our high expectations!! FERRY FUCKING CORSTEN!!! He just pounded it for 3 hours without mercy. Not to mention the visuals on the boombox had gotten even MORE impressive. It was all out insanity at this point. The videos really do not do this event justice. Ferry closing with Rock Your Body, Rock was absolutely PERFECT. Set of the night without question.
About the time Markus came on with some slower/darker beats I realized that I had lost my wallet (or had it stolen). By this point I was in such a euphoric bubble that it barely phased me. I looked for about 10 minutes then gave up. No sense letting it ruin my night. I called the bank, canceled my cards and moved on. Ended up getting the first professional massage of my life. Definitely a memorable place for it. Completely worth the $20 for anyone that didn't get one. Spent some quality time soaking up the sketch in the hallways afterwards. +1 to everyone who talked about the bathroom sketch. Decided to dance my way back to Markus to discover him dropping huge bombs now. Highlight of the set - NOTHING BUT YOU!! OMG! Pretty dope remix too.
I liked Sied when he played vola but wasn't sure what to expect from a closing set starting at 10am. Everyone that went home TOTALLY missed out. And the runner up for set of the night goes to...! Words cannot describe how much Sied fucking rocked it. I wished I wasn't almost out of memory on my camera or I would've taken so many more videos. Can we please book him at guv asap?? I want more big room SvR!! Closed down beb with only 3 remaining survivors. Justin, Veronica & Jason. Even before I left Toronto I knew there was no way in hell I was not closing it down. Totally expected more people to be there till the end but a small group to round things out is always special.
The trip home was more than likely the funniest fucking laugh fest of my life. Non-stop laughs with Tara, Jill and Jason for 7 hours. I will never forget that car ride
I still wish we ran out of gas. You would've loved it in the long run, jill! can't wait to watch the video!
random:
- this party wouldn't have been NEARLY as good without the huge group of friends that made the trek
- the boombox is easily one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life.
- I really need to learn french
- I should've bought a soother for the 17y/o in me
- capturing veronica and nada destroy the dance floor during ferry's set is one of the best impromptu decisions I made all night
- the only thing I'm sad I missed from the house room is 'the world is mine'
- oz wins the gold medal for... being fucking hysterical. can I post the pictures?? you were all tangled in those damn balloons
- I wore completely white shoes, pants, shirt, hat, sunglasses and sported an almost entirely white phone
my lost wallet was black
- they need to sell proper food like hot dogs and hamburgers. why is this such a ridiculous concept for a 14.5 hour event??
- the crowd in montreal is amazing. they aren't pushy, drunk bastards and you never have a problem finding enough room to dance whether you're up at the front or near the back (might have been a different case in the house room)

The Final 4 @ Noon

Stolen from the MTL forum:
Here is what Markus Schulz had to say
"Bal en Blanc, Montreal - Sunday April 4th (Technically Monday Morning!)
I wasnt able to get too much rest when Trance Energy was over, because I was straight on a plane heading back across the Atlantic to one of my favorite cities in the world to play, Montreal. Easter Sunday in Montreal means only one thing - the incredible Bal en Blanc.
Last years event was very special for me. Not only was it my first appearance playing at the event, but I was also given the task of remixing the event theme, Dressed in White - a track which became one of the biggest GDJB World Tour anthems in 2009.
The passion and connection I have with the Montreal fans is very unique. They live for all night clubbing, and that is why Bal en Blanc runs until noon the next day. My set wouldnt actually begin until 7am Eastern on the Monday morning, so I had to almost keep myself ticking over on the European time zone from Saturday.
Got checked in, had dinner and a sleep. Then I woke up at around 4am and started getting ready. The event was being broadcasted live on Afterhours FM, so I was able to listen to the first half of Ferrys set on the laptop and get an idea of what the atmosphere was like. I was going to have to draw on all my experience of playing in Montreal in the past - between Stereo, Red Lite and last years BEB, in order to create the right mood for my set.
I knew that I had to generate an almost afterhours-like vibe for the set, but only in a massive arena full of 15,000 people. A very unique situation! The one thing I have learned over the years however is that the Montreal faithful love everything chuggy - they love their dark and moody basslines with a little bit of hard tech thrown in for good measure.
Just before 5:30am and I was ready for the occasion, and of course, Dressed in White. As I arrived inside the Palais des Congres, I saw a familiar friend from last year - the Godskitchen Boombox. I was just praying that it wasnt going to be a high stage!
Many of you will have heard the set live or had the chance to listen to it throughout the week, and I have to say that it was one of the best gigs I have had for a very long time. Everything that I had planned and prepared was getting a response. I hadnt played Dressed in White for a little while, but I dusted it off and gave it a spin in the early phase of the set. As the morning went on though, I really was able to take the crowd down the rabbit hole. There were tracks in my set that would get reactions in Montreal and you wouldnt get those reactions in any other city in the world.
Im so grateful to all of the Coldharbour Montreal peeps that stayed with me and enjoyed the journey until 10am. It was a pressure cooker, because I knew that with the time I was playing, if you lost the crowd at any time, they were going home and going to bed. Good friend Sied van Riel came on straight after and let rip on the hardcore for the final 2 hours.
I sincerely hope that I dont have to wait too long for my next Bal en Blanc experience."

OMG...........what an amazing party!!!! the trance room was exactly as amazing as i thought it was going to be and probably more... from sander van doorn (who redeemed himself for me from 2007 labor of love) ferry corsten was just amazing ... markus shulz took to another level and seid van reil BLEW MY MIND.. actually took my mind in his hands and took it to the next dimension... i am absolutely in LOVE with trance.. and i cant wait for more!! i seriously think it wasn't long enough!!!! ALso i managed to somehow make my way to the house room to catch a bit of kaskade's set..which was really good never heard him before.. he gave me a boost of energy.. also i caught a bit of Ana paula another person who i never heard of.. because i am such a TRANCEADDICT...she impressed me with some awesome tribal beats!! But the most disappointing was David Morales.. EWW EWW EWW EWW EWW what a waste of a slot.. but whatevs i was totally in a trance with seid ....but overall amazing it was my first time there and i will def be back for more.... i wonder if they would make it longer...
