514 didn't make money with Tiesto last time.
Tiesto was too expensive to produced him at Sona so they tried to organised a party. But the party was not a big succes so they didn't make money out of this event!
Biggy are these your speculations or facts?
If they did indeed lose money, then they have the right to charge 50-100$ for a party.

The thing is they do not have to charge more but have more people! 2000 people for Tiesto at a party on saturday night is not alot man!
We got 3400 people at Aria with Oakie!
Maybe it was not a big week-end to produce a party?
at least Tiesto played a long set... which everybody enjoyed ..

We often have had DJs play 4-8 hour sets..
Just recently, Digweed @ Stereo (8 hr).. Max Graham @ Sona (8 hr).. Steve Lawler @ Aria (4:30).. Satoshi Tomiie @ Stereo (4 hr).. and I could go on and on and on!
It may have been one of the longest sets Tiesto has played in his life, but definitly far from being the longest set ever in Montreal
i still can't believe i paid 60 bucks for tiesto only , the sound was fucked up , but at least the venue was good
like i've seen somewhere in the 514 MB : there will be a lot of people going to Cream cuz Quebec is full of XTC popping ravers who don'T give a fuck about who's spinnin' and what style is played during the party

And imo instead of u bashing about the lineup i think we should bash about the price even if it wasnt a 514 event, think about when we used to pay 25 and 30 to get into a 514 party or so.... wtf those days are gone.

Who?
808 State, acid house pioneers and possibly the finest live dance act to come out of Manchester. No mean feat that, considering the competition. Initially, it was the production expertise of Graham Massey, Eastern Bloc Records owner Martin Price and Gerald Simpson that formed the backbone of The State. Simpson was complicit on the first collection of raw acidity from 808, entitled �Newbuild�, but left part way through the second long player �Quadrastate� to pursue his own interests, (namely his solo act, A Guy Called Gerald). Why 808?
Clearly that was because of the Roland TR808 drum machine, the piece of kit that became as essential as the 303 and the 909 in producing acid house music. The seminal 808 moment came in the shape of the undisputedly glorious genre-defining �Pacific State� with its smooth pads and tear-jerking horns. Other classy moments include �Cubik� from 1990 and the rave-tastic �In yer Face� from 1991. Collaborations. The State have a remix CV that pisses from a great height on anything Oakenfold or Morales have put together. Biggy maybe it's because you own the club and you don't have to rent a venue, pay security, and so on..

Yes but a club has not the capacity of Molson Cnetre! If you bring big artists, you will have 6 500 - 7000 people but with this line-up I think more 4000.
And I think it's only 50$ in pre-sale, not at the door? I am sure it will be 75$ at the door.

@ a venue like the Molson Centre they have to pay for a shit load more security than let's say aria, Plus for big raves in Montreal you must have a a centain numbers of cops at the front as well ( Plus it's a holiday so you pay them double ).
Biggy just curious how many staff do you have on a night at one time??
Zing, one more question, what type of sponsors do they usually get for a rave??

Molson Centre + security is about 125 000$cdn.
This is the biggest expenses for this year but when you have big dj's, artists can be the biggest expenses.
A good party at Molson Centre should bring this kinda amount of people:
4000 x 50$ = 200 000$
2000 x 75$ = 150 000$
+ 25 000$ sponsors = 375 000$
If the venue + security (police) + DJ'S cost 200 000$, you can make good money.
50 000$ of production (sound + lighting + visuals).
25 000$ promotion
40 000$ all extras
This 315 000$ for a really good party so it's 60 000$ profit (this is 16% profits)and if you have 6500 people, there is 40 000$ extra again(this is 26.5% profits)!
that's quite the interesting break down, plus they'll be making $$ of glow sticks sales, if they still sell em, I haven't been in a while
You think they get $25,000 worth of sponsorship? That's pretty crazy, I wouldn't expect it to be that high.
Tickets aren't 50$ tax included, are they?

I know it's really easy to get sponsors for $20K - $25K for a party like that!
ofcourse sometimes sponsors take care of the DJ cover.
