Originally posted by ChemEnhanced I'm very relaxed...shit I just spent two weeks cruising the Caribbean. I see no problem in having a healthy discussion on whether or not a club in KW will continue with a House/EDM night long term.

Originally posted by Endlesswave Fair enough but all we notice on here is your cynicism which sometimes can be healthy but if it's all we ever see you type it can get very tiring.

Originally posted by ChemEnhanced Fair enough but I think some people on here only see what they want to see and fail to see the positive things that I've said.

Originally posted by Endlesswave I'd say it's that PLUS it's hard to see your positives when a LOT of what you post is cynical IMO. Btw, anyone here going to Dj shadow at the Phoenix? FLOORED when I saw this...

When I went there once, there were a lot of Americans from Detroit that I met, that go because they are of age in Canada, but not the US. They can get shitfaced legally 2 years earlier in Ontario. |
lol this guy is unreal (chemenhanced). okay buddy, you keep doing what your doing
if you don't like me....simple answer....put me on your ignore list....it will make us all happier.
but then how would i know what posts everyone is complaining about?
on a different note, i think having aleksandra spin alongside christina cruise and sydney blu would be sick! three unbelievable women dj's in one night!!
sorry I couldn't hear you...the ignore button was stuck in my ear.

Chem's being a dick... but chances are he's right. I hope he's not (okay, I actually don't care one way or another) but probability is any club in any city is going to fail; let alone a night playing a particular genre of music in this particular city. He's also right that other then the Purple room no EDM night has lasted more then two years in K-Dub. Negative; yes, inaccurate; no.
Again though... I wish you well.

I love the Purple Room. In the 6 years I've been going I have never, ever had anything less than a great time.
This is entertaining
BTW, Tabu before the fire averaged 800-950 through the door EVERY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY (with the exception of xmas day and a snow storm day) and if you added in 140 west they averaged about 2500 people a weekend. If you were there you would have seen that.
Beta will be a destination spot. People will travel in from lots of surrounding areas. This is not a regular nightclub. I guess you will have to see when it is up and running. A large part of our Saturday market is the tri-cities and surrounding areas sick of driving to Toronto paying $15-$20 for parking $15-$20 to get into a venue for the same experience over and over again.
Never the less in respect to the summer months, give you an idea of the busiest months in order of revenue for Waterloo in 2009.
1) September
2) August
3) January
4) July
5) October
6) February
worst month is December.
Summer is a great time to separate yourself from the competition. Most places don't do well because they are not nightclubs in the area. They ARE DARK rooms that throw a couple lights up and hire the cheapest DJ they can get for a night. They do not attempt any marketing nor listen to what people want. If all else fails they lower drink prices and hope for the best. If they really get desperate they sign up for a live to air and dish out 3k while doing $2.50 drinks.
Furthermore, there is no fine line in this business of making money. You either make really good money or you haemorrhage money.
BTW, REV does over 3000 people a weekend now.
I had the pleasure of seeing Calvin Harris play last night infront of 550 people on A WEDNESDAY night with a $30 ticket price at a venue that didn't earn any respect. The scene is there, it needs a venue to find the right combination of DJs, promotion.
FYI - Steve Angello is 75% sold out and the date is 2 weeks out and noone has ever seen the venue.
We are building a WORLD CLASS venue. When you walk in you will know your in something different. So yeah I think people will come down from Milton, London, Guelph, Cambridge, Hamilton to go to a venue that blows 99% of venues in the area away and asks you to pay $5 to see DJs such as Wally Lopez, Glenn Morrison, Sdyney Blu, Deko-ze, Manzone & Strong, and SOOO MANY MORE COMING.
Well Beta dudes, I gotta say I'm pumped to check it out.
I am going to do something special for my TRANCEADDICT friends.
I am going to do my best to bring in one of your Top 10 DJS on the 250 poll and offer all members FREE cover. We want you to give BETA a chance and want you to know we know what we are doing.
Thank-you for all your support.

Such a shame of a lineup with a $5 cover attached. Maybe we should have added in Sander or Gareth. WALK BEFORE YOU RUN!!!! This is not footwork or circus in Montreal. So yeah the obvious DJs might be a good platform to grow the scene.
