This article is pretty funny....

| Charlie Sheen's heroic stand against the tyrannical therapy police Charlie Sheen is my hero. Not because he goes on five-day benders, takes binbags of drugs and cavorts with ladies of the night. That would be recklessly self-indulgent behaviour in anyone over the age of 21, never mind in a 45-year-old actor with a primetime TV job and a wife and children at home. No, hes my hero because he refuses to allow his behaviour to be psychologised. He refuses to genuflect before the Oprahite altar of psychobabble and blame his antics on his inner demons. Instead hes fighting like a terrier against experts attempts to brand him as disordered and in the process has made himself into a one-man army of resistance to the tyranny of therapy that has the twenty-first-century in its grip. Easily the most shocking thing about the Charlie Sheen affair is not his recent debauched behaviour Stop the press: Hollywood actor behaves hedonistically! but rather the unstoppable march of a zombie-eyed army of therapists who want to diagnose Sheen from a distance as mentally ill. Every cod-psychologist in search of a headline, and increased business, is offering to write a prescription for Sheen. Under the headline Addict or Bipolar? Examining the Passion of Charlie Sheen, Time magazine admits it isnt possible to diagnose patients at a distance. And yet it proceeds to do precisely that, employing two experts to discuss whether Sheen is suffering from narcissistic personality disorder, bipolar mania, depression, anxiety or addiction. In a TV interview, ABCs Andrea Canning asked Sheen if he was bipolar. When he said no, and hinted that some people claim to be bipolar simply to excuse their erratic behaviour, she looked at him as if he was in that other favoured phrase of the therapeutic industry in denial. Even the brain-invaders at Psychology Today magazine have got involved, claiming that the life and times of Charlie Sheen are a serious issue for us all. Why? Because apparently he is in the grip of a Mood Disorder (I think we used to call this being moody) and his failure to deal with it contains a lesson for everyone: When youre in the depths of a Mood Disorder, you swirl in an ocean of mental, physical and spiritual chaos, [and] its only when you reach the safety of the shore that you realise just how dangerously ill you were. How do we reach the safety of the shore? Through the therapeutic intervention and guidance of psycho-experts, of course! On the back of their pseudo-diagnoses of Mr Sheens alleged various mental illnesses, psychologists are cynically seeking to boost their own professions. To the fury of these overlords of therapy, Sheen is swatting aside all suggestions that he is disordered. He has denounced Alcoholics Anonymous for encouraging debilitating dependence on a Higher Power; he has slated those who blame their behaviour on demons from their past (Like, Oh my God, its all my moms fault! Shut up, he recently said); and he has even challenged the very language the therapy police use. Asked on ABC if he was still using that annoying Oprahite word for taking drugs he said: Using a blender? Using a vacuum cleaner? Use is such an AA expression! In his refusal to speak their lingo, to play their game, to do what all celebs in his situation must do these days arrange to be interviewed by Hello! so that they can be photographed weeping while confessing to having suffered a mental breakdown Sheen is rebelling against the super-conformist modern narrative of weak individuals who need to be saved by psycho-priests. They wont forgive him for this. The most revealing thing about the Sheen affair is the way normal emotions and failings are relentlessly psychologised today. Note how Time magazine puts the word passion in quote marks; others say that Sheens claim that he is simply angry is really a denial of the fact that he is Mood Disordered. Apparently everything we do and feel is really an expression of some inner imbalance that urgently needs to be fixed by modern-day witch doctors with a PhD in personality-policing. In refusing to go along with this nonsense, Sheen nicely reminds us that we alone are responsible for our behaviour, and that we alone can improve ourselves, when were ready. |
thanks for linking that.
great read.

He's 100% batshit insane. He might have a tighter PR package than Mel Gibson but the guy is still absolutely daffy.
He's a drug addict with bi-polar disorder. Just ask anyone with a psychology background/education. Everyone is using him to support their views on an issue. He's not the first person who refused professional help for a mental condition and used recreational drugs to self medicate himself. I guess people have a hard time believing it because he's a famous celebrity.

| Originally posted by AMMORA I put some thought into this...no you're not the only one who doesn't think he's nuts...in fact the opposite. I think his brain is quite complex and interesting...albeit damaged from drug abuse, but he's def aware of whats happening in his life way more than people realize. Sheen's been an entertainer his whole life, he's developed as a human that requires pleasing people to function. He's supported everyone around him for decades. And he doesn't ask anyone for anything, expect sympathy, cry out for help, etc. in fact he asks not to be treated like a nut, respect his decisions as an adult, and absolutely do not judge him when no one is perfect themselves. This is pretty typical of a lot of men who take on the "provider" role in their life. This is why women like Denise and Brooke and the Goddesses love him--he really does take care of them all out of pride and a sense of fulfillment. As anyone who has been a "provider" knows, it wears on you...you'd be lying to yourself if you didn't admit you have a vice or an indulgence--something you turn to in order to relax and cut loose. Some people are runners, some smoke weed, drink beer or wine, kick back some cocktails, stay-at-home moms go to the spa, men go golfing, the list goes on...etc. In Sheen's case when he gets a few days off he books a $14,000 hotel room, bangs 7 gram rocks AND a few hookers (cuz everyone knows what they're getting into..and Sheen loves honesty) behind closed doors, away from the responsibilities of his job, family, etc. Obviously this isn't a new concept for celebrities that go wild from time to time. Sheen WASN'T doing this stuff when he was in love and happily married to his (now ex)wives--he was presented a choice to pick the partying, hookers & blow OR pick his wife and family--he chose his family every time until the wife ended up being even more of a nut than him! Then its like, COME ON MAN! Can't win situation. He's constantly faced with these ultimatums and choices when in reality he's not really doing anything to harm anyone except maybe himself with these activities...he stays clean around the kids, he is clean at work and performs well, he abides by the law (well, kinda), and seems otherwise cooperative when faced with intelligent requests. The times we hear about him losing control, acting violent, etc you have to wonder why the people around him, knowing him well, would want to taunt the fuck out of him...they know they'll get a reaction. Everyone has been provoking him for a reaction for years. Chuck Lorre, Brooke Mueller, his Dad, his manager, etc. Now he's actually standing up for himself. He's a bit of a revolutionary--he's been putting up with injustices for years and got tired of being stomped on by the iron foot of a total assbag, so he finally threw it back in their face and makes valid points. Charlie Sheen should become an endangered species--something we protect, but do not interfere with...nature is to be respected and left to run its course. We should learn about it, take valuable lessons from it, and be inspired to make changes so no one ever has to endure the torture of living in a world where you must become Charlie Sheen instead of your true Tiger-blooded, Adonis DNA spliced Carlos Estevez SELF. |

i agree with ammora
will never buy into this bullshit psycho-babble. how do you know he's bipolar? because of his exploits you read about in the press? complete and utter bullshit. why is it anybody's business if he's "bi-polar" or has a "mental disorder". he's fucking funny, and a good actor. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?
