"May 29: Claude Von Stroke @ Bleu (Detroit, MI)"

As much as I fuckin hate Bleu and it's setup... CVS was the highlight of my DEMF last year... can't get enough of seeing him live, so much fun!

What's Bleu like? Is it worse / smaller than the venue he spun at last year? I didn't enjoy that club too much. Worthy spinning outside made up for it though.

Nice! Been waiting for Sebo K for a while.

The only afterparties I'm interested in so far is the Dave Clarke one and Need I Say More VI. However, if Sven is on a boat, I'll likely be there too.

Thanks for the info.

Martin--

Yeah bleu is bigger than the works, but it will also be so much more of a cluster fuck. I can almost positively guarantee it. The works was letting people in from 3 different entrances, and for the works being at capacity (~1000) it was a very smooth entrance for me.

Also any after party that close in proximity to hart plaza is bound to be stupid.

Remember the drum code party last year, and it getting shut down right before bayer went on?

Regardless, if you do go, get pre sales so you don't get charged something stupid like $60 at the door.

yea bleu will have a line...
but there are plenty of other places having parties the same nite...

drum code was down the street @ Vain... not @ Bleu...

Posted by d1ssonance on Apr-05-2011 00:30:

I know it was at vain. My point is, that club has one entrance, and usually the people working the door are incompetent. Combine that with it being the biggest week for EDM in detroit all year and it's going to be a mess.

I havent been to bleu since it reopened but whenever a semi large event happens there it's always a shit show getting in.

Deadmau5 a couple years back for instance.

All i'm saying is that people need to exercise good judgment if they go there, i.e. Buy presales and show up early.

that deadmau5 show in Nov 08 was completely fucked... you cannot use that as as example for every nite...

since its been reopened... there has been new security, some of the old ones but new as well...
different ppl work check-in as well...
longest i waited @ Bleu since it re-opened has been prob 10 min and that was their first nite open for KT...

huge EDM weekend... also, tons of parties... its not like Bleu is the only club in town having a party...

Posted by PoLskA on Apr-05-2011 01:10:

the NightSneak party featuring Dave Clarke, Roni Size, and Umek has changed venues...

it will now be @ Bert's Warehouse...
Russell Industrial will not be ready in time to hold a proper party...

I feel like there were more/better after-parties announced by this time last year.

Honestly, not to worried, and maybe a bit happy! Means MAYBE (probably not) I will get to bed at a reasonable time so I can get to the festival earlier the next day, perhaps rested this time and I can enjoy more of the acts, the day, and roam around more.

So where is everyone staying?

I'm a the Doubletree, checking in Saturday and checking out Tuesday for $199 a night. Doubt anyone else could get this, DoubleTree are being khunts and it involved me and the childish possibly uneducated GM of the Detroit location getting into a yelling match over email to get this! (And still not happy!)

Looks like they don't want DEMF crowd there or something...

No 1,2,3 night bookings, no single nights, only way you can book is Friday to Monday 4 night stay @ $189/night.

Too late to find anything else that's reasonable

I wonder if they will let you book the 4nights but cancel the Friday night closer to the date without penalty of losing your money, losing the entire reservation, or being bumped up to their "approved" rate for the weekend which is apparently $229 a night. Which, according to them doesn't matter, because they don't have rooms or vacancy that weekend

Posted by d1ssonance on Apr-06-2011 15:40:

That hotel has always been bullshit. During that weekend they treat you like dirt. Last year they literally stopped my friends every time they tried to go up to copy down their identification. Then security came up twice because we were being "too loud and rowdy". Too bad it was only 2 of us, and one was in the shower while the other was sleeping.

We got upgraded from Courtyard to the Ren Cen!!!

Looks like some one fucked up big time LOL

One thing that sucks is Sarah and I won't be coming down until Sunday because my cousin's wedding is on Saturday...so looks like I'm missing 2 potential wicked after parties Gotta pace myself so I'm not too hungover for the drive lol. At least I can party hardy all day and night Sunday and waltz into Old Miami feeling like a million bucks!

The Doubletree is a shithole and the staff is horribly rude. I was in a friend's room last year hanging out, they came up to accuse us of smoking weed (which we weren't) and almost kicked them out of the hotel until my friend slipped the guy a $50.

Last year I stayed @ the MGM Grand with the Detek promo code and it's beautiful. The pool is awesome there, the restaurants are great and the room service menu is really good and reasonable, they have everything you'll need. This year I'm staying @ the Courtyard just cos it's closer

Really surprised and sorry to hear this. I was never stopped once going in and out of the Doubletree last year. I had different people staying with me each night and I didn't hear of them encountering any problems either. I hope that doesn't change this year because I just booked Friday -> Tuesday again.

Also, I read the comments a couple pages back about Fatboy Slim. They seem to be mostly positive on this board, but the booking is getting slammed on other sites. People are upset, I guess, about his sound not fitting with the festival. I, for one, am extremely excited to get the opportunity to see him. For one, I think Paxahau has been slowly expanding the variety at the festival anyway. Regardless, I could care less as Cook is one of those legends that I've always wanted to see. I had a few opportunities to travel and catch him back in the day, but plans just never worked out. I kind of chalked his name up on the "likely will never see" board, and now come to find out he will close out the festival. Needless to say, I'm very happy and am curious as to how the rest of the lineup will shape up. In any case, the festival will be enjoyable and the after parties are sure to rock again this year.

We are in the same boat Stefan. I have a bachelor party on the Saturday and Andrea has a bachelorette, so we won't be heading to Detroit until early Sunday.

See, this is surprising!

I had a GREAT time at the DoubleTree last year, walked in, no one bothered us, we were not being overly loud, but no noise complaints, never bothered by the staff. Whenever I needed to talk with front desk they were great with me, let me book an extra night without changing rooms on Monday, even gave the room to me at the discounted rate I got over the weeked via Hotels.ca.

Security at the door was cool, shooting the shit with us while we smoked out front, gave us advice.

The shuttle bus guy was dope as shit too, gave us rides everywhere, he was like our personal limo. Slip him some solid tip and he'd drive us right to the DEMF entrance, (not that it was a far walk). On Monday he was driving people all the way to Old Miami without a problem.

We were always raving it up or sleeping whenever they came to clean our rooms, all I had to do was request a room clean as we left for the festival and they went in and cleaned it in the evening while we were at the festival. Sorted our room, cleaned up the empties.

In general I always had a good time at the DoubleTree whenever I travel for work too.

Weird that you had such a bad experience. The great experience I had last time is one of the reasons that I was making such an effort to score a room there this year.

The whole suite thing is what really sells me, the fact that people could be in the front room talking, listening to music and partying, people could still be in the back bedroom sleeping and resting if they want to be. Also, if it's your room, it's nice to keep all your shit in the back and guests in the front.

I hope they don't get nazi'ish this year, because there will be plenty of people in my room
