And yeah, I'm sure it's easy to become a complete loser if all you have is gaming - your parents will kick you out (for the better) and you'll come to realize what's important to you by necessity (for the better). You said it yourself, it's difficult to judge someone when they truly pursue their dreams, however inane those may seem - but what is the point of living, really? People have to create that for themselves, and there's no use passively condemning them for actively pursuing their earnest interests, especially if your ultimate standard is what looks good on a resume.

fascinating!

Am I not old enough to get it?

Your Ted Striker and everyone else reading your post is sitting in the next seat.

Yes, but you have the attention span of your rape victims.

If he's playing Standard, then he's probably running some variant of Blue/Black Control, in which case it's worth well more than a few hundred bucks:

The deck's effectiveness has greatly improved in recent months with the release of the latest expansion set.

i was mostly just thinking "well i can't disagree with that" when i read hal's post
but i suppose that picture was adequate.

Well, there are two points here. Firstly, a game like Starcraft or Magic or any other game is only going to last for so long and while you might make a good living off it for so long, if the carpet is pulled from under you your CV is going to look extremely barren.

Secondly, as Paradox Lost has implied, competitive gaming really isn't much fun at all. At university I tried playing Halo competitively, and after a couple of months I just got the fuck out of there. Not only does it become extremely joyless and monotonous in its own right, but that whole community attracts the worst breed of obnoxious beta-males. It more or less killed my lingering interest in gaming altogether.

If it's not giving you much pleasure, it's not improving your long-term situation and it's (probably) not helping your social life, you have to ask what's the point of pursuing that particular dream.

He reminds me of those intellectual whores who suck the joy out of everything by over analyzing it. I'd imagine at a club he's got some poor bloke cornered in the bathroom explaining to him the social and historical minutia of dance in the 21th century.

Ah yeah, figured as much. I know it's worth at LEAST a few hundred.

Yeah, yeah. I used to play a lot of Quake 3, I know it's a better game than Halo and I know mouse & keyboard trumps the gamepad. Blah blah blah.

Point is that if you're doing fake Internet laughter because one control system offers more skill than another, you've already lost. You can still play Halo competitively despite a lower skill ceiling, there's still lots of money to be won, there's probably a much larger fanbase and it's still just as joyless and frustrating as Q3.

I always wished I had gotten into MTG. I started High school but I was more interested in video games.

Posted by Dreyth on Apr-18-2011 16:32:

I can't stand playing FPS with a controller. I need a keyboard and mouse. My cousin pisses me off so much because he beats me (only by a little) in whatever FPS he has on his PS3. I keep telling him that if I had a keyboard/mouse I would MURDER HIM. Just like I literally murder him about 21-1 in Counter Strike. To his defense, he doesn't like keyboard/mouse.

Is there anyway I can play against his ps3 controller with my keyboard/mouse in any fps?

He's such an idiot. He says you have more control with a controller.... um.. no you don't. Your limited by your analog joystick first of all. I can actually accurately select the speed at which I want to turn around (just change the speed of my hand sliding across the mouse pad). On the other hand, he can only put his stick to the end and wait for himself to finally make a 180.

Then he tries to tell me it's impossible to strafe with a keyboard

Proof that the card works. Sweet hipster anti-Trance rage.
Face is Jay, Armin is the best and more popular than anything you listen to. Just expand your horizon a bit and you'll realize how Trance can even make a bitter sod like you happy. I suggest starting out with his 'Imagine' album.

you like magic: the gathering and trance.

that is the male equivalent to a fat woman on a mobility scooter.

Your lucky you didn't, because it becomes an expensive drug habit. Plus its no fun hanging out with uptight nerds on power trips on their way to becoming the comic book guy from the Simpsons.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Apr-18-2011 17:48:

Instead, one should devote their time to listlessly stalking people on music forums and belting out sophomoric repartees well into their 40s. Now that's true fun!

I'm sorry Hal on and on...
